The Chimp, The Cabbage And Me
17th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

How similar are we to the apes?See this: http://www.answersingenesis.org/articles/tj/v17/n1 /dnaPreviously, it was thought to be 98% - 99% similar, but the figure has now been downgraded to just 95% based on latest research on the genetic codes in humans and chimps. And how similar is our DNA compared to that of the humble cabbage?About 57%, I read. To put it bluntly, eating cabbage is like eating a human with severe mental disabilities.See this: http://www.thehumangenome.co.uk/THE_HUM...

Amy Tham came to my house today, to collect some RetroMAD1 for Mama-Cat. Mama has faucitis and is fiv+. There is no known conventional treatment for faucitis except for periodic steroid jabs and since Mama is fiv+, this gum problem will be chronic and might get worse with time. By the way, all the RetroMAD1 I have left now is for the TVT-dog and Mama-Cat. If you'd like to get some, please write to me and I'll get you in touch with the vet in Puchong who might s...

Wawa, Rescued Pup From The MMR2 Highway
16th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Phoebe rescued this pup from the MMR2 highway on Sunday. She was found lying on the divider and was later discovered to be limping. Phoebe and her sister, Sew Yen, brought the pup to our panel vet today, for an evaluation. They came all the way from Batu Caves! See the limping leg? This is Wawa (the name is given by the girls' brother). And Wawa is so good-natured, sweet and friendly. Even the vet said so.Wawa was found with a short metal chain on her. She must have escaped, got l...

Two Community Cats Spayed-Neutered
16th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ever since CP became an active CNRM practitioner, she has been doing her bit to help educate and encourage her neighbours to do the same.First, it was her neighbour, Mrs Wong, and next, it's a Filipino domestic helper who has been feeding cats for many years. In fact, it was this helper, May, who had been feeding Mimi, Didi and Manja before they became CP's resident-cats.  Yesterday, May managed to catch a young mother-cat who is done breast-feeding. Her kittens can already eat on their own...

Mimi, Mayo's other resident-cat, sister to the demised Dodo, became unwell last week.  She has been put on drips since then, and according to what I hear, the prognosis isn't good.  It is suspected to be kidney failure, just like her brother, Dodo.Mimi is also 12 years old.   Please pray for Mimi to be free from any form of suffering.May she recover quickly. And meanwhile, here's the mischievous one....It's little Don Don, playing hide-and-seek with CP when she visited today.O...

Remember Ms Husky (with The 300 Ticks)?
16th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ms Husky was one of the 23 puppies we took out from the Selayang Pound when the Selayang Pound was thrown into the limelight way back in January 2010.  Eight of the puppies did not look well, so I brought them straight to the vet's while the rest stayed at the shelter.  Flashback:Plucking out her ticks as I sat waiting for the vet.Look at that....this is the plight of the strays or puppies at the pound.(Those are huge ticks in her ears. Her whole body was totally infested with ticks. I...

Another Sad Story (from Dr Veeranoot)
16th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Sigh...this seems to be a month of sad stories.  Yesterday, I received a call from Dr Veeranoot. She was crying in between trying to tell me what had happened to the four black kittens she had rehomed to a sanctuary in Segambut and were subsequently adopted by one person.A little background first - Dr Veeranoot rescued the pregnant mother-cat from Section 17, PJ, because she wanted to provide the cat a safe home to deliver her babies.  6 babies were delivered, safe and sound.  Dr ...

What Do We Do With Human Pests?
16th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Today was the first day of the new semester at my college and as always, there is much work to do.  I was done for the day when I went to my car, hoping to get home to do more work. But woe betide me, another car had blocked my car in such a way that it was absolutely impossible for me to even squeeze out as the space left was only that of half my Kelisa. And it wasn't that there was no other place to park. There was, but she (I found out who it was - a student) just had to park right behind...

From Su Ann Quah, another young rescuer, who first enlisted our help when some kittens were trapped inside a drain.Hi Kah Yein,Not sure if you remember me, I contacted you earlier this year aboutthis litter of kittens that were born in my garden. (Of course I remember, Su Ann) I thought you'd like to have an update on them (with pictures too!). 2 of the kittens(one black and white and one cream + white colour point) were adoptedby my neighbour and I get to see them quite often... but I...

Two More Dogs On RetroMAD1
15th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Eileen Ng was interested to try the RetroMAD1 on her parvo puppy, Chubby.  She came to my house yesterday to get some and there was a distemper pup in her car.  The distemper pup, Bono, was twitching at the mouth.  Since distemper is also viral in nature, the RetroMAD1 can also be used on it, though there has been no proven successful case yet.  I told Eileen to give the drug to Bono as well.  He looked very pitiful, twitching at the mouth and if this is the only antivir...

An "Evergreen" Forward (from Meredith To God, And Back)
15th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I have received this forwarded email countless of times, yet each time, it never fails to put a smile on my face or even a tear in my eye. To know that there are such wonderful people in the world who would take the time to attend to the "little things that matter" is truly heart-warming.  Here you go... We don't know who replied, but there is a beautiful soul working in the dead letter office of the US postal service. Our 14-year-old dog Abbey died last month. The day after she p...

And How Has Indy Been?
15th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

The day Indy went in for his blood test, we were all kept in suspense and waited with bated breath for the test results the next day. We obviously weren't the only ones kept in suspense as Indy must have read my mind. He spent that whole day in the shrine room and only came down for food. My cats only spend time there whenever they are sick.  The next day, I had gone to the clinic first thing the morning to wait for the results, but apparently, the clinic had already received the results th...

We Learn And Strive On For Their Sake (Donnie, Jet And Jackie)
14th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Ever since Bruce's unfortunate passing, I have been in contact with Weiwen. I was a trifle worried that being a first-time rescuer, she might be feeling very dejected by some of the harsher comments (though already edited before being posted). But my worries were unfounded, because Weiwen is made of stronger stuff. I applaud her for having a mental strength which I seldom see, even in adults. She took all the criticisms and advice in her stride and chose to learn from all the sharing.  ...
