Cindy, Tiger And Ebony Spayed
20th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Peggy Quah is currently looking after 20 cats in her back alley and around her neighbourhood. We are helping her with the cost of the spay-neuter for all these cats. Peggy lives in Klang and there is a vet near her place, so she uses her own vet. We've done seven so far, and here's another three females, done sometime last week: Cindy  TigerEbonyPeggy gets them done 2-3 at a time so that she would have time to take care of them until full recovery before releasing them back i...

Only-One Still Weak
19th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I had a long day today, and only came home this evening. I had been keeping in touch with June over Only-One's condition.  June said he's eating, but still appeared weak.By evening, I thought we should not take the chance as Only-One still had not poo-ed.  So I went over to take Wei Leng and Only-One to our regular vet, with her mother's permission. Here's the cute little guy. Only-One weighs 244g. The vet wanted to observe his movements. Only-One's curiosity and alertne...

Snowy - Day Two
19th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Updates on Snowy: This morning Snowy's condition was better. His temperature is now normal. So the vet was able to give him antibiotic injection (Marbocyl) and to take his blood. The in-clinic test shows the WBC is very high indicating infection. The lab results will be available in the evening. After the blood taking, he has to go back to his oxygen bubble to rest. When I went to see him this morning, the vet said he was stable enough to travel for x-ray to be done. We rang Gasing first coz t...

Be The Tree, Not The Leaf
19th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

This is nice....(I think this is what drives us to help animals, we include them in the sphere of humanity, and rightly so, too!):The wine of life is oozing drop by drop,The leaves of life are falling one by one.   – Omar KhayyamLike leaves, we come into this life, are here for a few days, and then are gone. Nobody remembers us, and nobody misses us.As long as we believe that we are separate, we inevitably have to die. Our immortality is in the whole, which never dies. In l...

19th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

There has been a short supply (in fact, NO supply) of Pets Own Milk, and my friend, who is currently fostering five puppies, has this to share. He is a very experienced puppy-fosterer and has hand-raised many mother-less newborn puppies. Here it is, but it has only been used on PUPPIES (not kittens). The milk powder is Nan1, Hypoallergenic. From Newborn till 2 weeks old - use according to recommended dosage for human babies, but add 20% more water to dilute it. For every 250ml, add a teaspoon...

Bunny Found - Safe And Sound!!!
19th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

It's 11.33am now, and Bunny is here!!I went out looking again after writing that post about Bunny being missing. I was really worried because all five had come back, even Bunny's sister, Pole. And Cow and Pole were following me around (which is rare, which is worrying as well). Pole is like a community cat, she does come back, but she doesn't quite stick around. When my cats behave out-of-the-ordinary, I get worried.  Cleo was inside the drain, at my next-door neighbour's. Cow...

All my five cats are around, but Bunny is missing. This is Bunny's latest photo, taken just days ago.Cow had been attacking him for the past few days, and a neighbour said she saw Bunny fighting with another cat outside her gate last night. But I fed Bunny this morning and all seemed well. Please help me ...

Puteri Is On The Way To Better Health (sporo-Free)
18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to see Puteri today. She was tested positive for Sporotrichosis, treated with Itraconazole (supplemented with RetroMAD1) and the recent test turned up negative for Sporo, which is good news. She will still continue with the Itraconazole for another 2-3 weeks and the test will be repeated to ensure that there is really no more sporo growth.  After that, Puteri will be up for adoption. She's a very pretty little thing... And very active and playful, too. She wants to play...

Mimi In A Very Critical Condition
18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

I went to visit Mimi today. Mimi is Mayo Clinic's other resident-cat. Her brother, Dodo, passed away last month of kidney problems (no warning, just one day, and that's it). Mimi also has kidney problems but has hung on (on drips) for four days now.... Mimi does not seem to be conscious. She has lost so much weight too. The vet says even while on drips, she is dehydrated. Her kidneys must have failed. It is so sad....yet, this is what we all might have to go through too, when our time c...

Snowy, In Critical Condition
18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Is this a season of cat-sicknesses or is it because it's the seventh month in the Chinese calendar?I don't know, but coincidentally, many of our cases seem to be serious ones. And there have been more deaths than usual too. Say what you will, but I have noticed for decades that calamities, disasters and personal ill-fortune do strike a wee bit more during this infamous month where legend has it that Chinese suffering spirits are let loose from Chinese hells and they roam freely where Chines...

Wei Leng's "Only One"
18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Wei Leng is 16 years old and her mum runs a hair-dressing salon down my road. This evening, Wei Leng and her domestic helper, June, came a-knocking at my gate with a little basket. There was a tiny little kitten in the basket and he did not look too well.Wei Leng was hoping I could tell what was wrong with the kitten or better still, if I could take over the kitten, but I can't. I said she'd have to ask her mum to bring the kitten straight away to the vet's. I knew a mother-cat had give...

18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

After Amy left, it was Jessy Lian's turn with Wolverine and his mother, Mama-X.Jessy texted me today to say Wolverine had not been looking too well and seemed "wobbly", so I said not to delay and quickly bring him to our vet. The vet checked little Wolverine's reflexes. He doesn't look too good though he is the biggest of the litter. He just wanted to go back to Mama-X. Mama-X is a very good and protective mum. Checking all the facial reflexes. Here's the differential dia...

Nuzul And Terry At The Vet's
18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

Amy Tham brought Nuzul (yesterday's kitten) and another (abandoned) kitten, Terry, to our panel vet for a check-up today.   This is Terry.Terry was dumped at the restaurant and apparently, the workers had fed him "all kinds of food" and now Terry has diarrhoea. Anyway, the workers were not going to feed him anymore, so Amy took him home.  We'll look at little Nuzul first. Nuzul has a limping leg and cannot seem to control his bowel movement.Do you notice his whiskers are shor...

Puteri was rescued on 29th June by Mary Yap from the middle of the road in Taman Tun. 18th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare

So, Little Missy (LM) and His Royal Terrorist Mr Nonsense (finally!) got spayed-neutered, and how are they? From CP:They're both ok - but LM very noisy - 5am mewing away - guess she's in pain and looking for her kittens - i went over to see her around 7am and she was mewing again at me - i looked at her stitches - ok but guess she's very stressed out. Nonsense was very quiet - just like how Blackie was when he was neutered - haha - big bullies felt embarrased being caged up :) At least DiDi had a...
