A Look At Animal Hoarding 7th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
This is a very good article about animal hoarding: http://veterinarynews.dvm360.com/to o-many-pets-too-little-care-look-animal-hoarding?p ageID=1
Here are some excerpts.
The classification of a hoarder
The definition of animal hoarding may surprise you. That’s because the crux of what classifies a person as a hoarder isn’t a particular number of animals—it’s whether or not those animals are provided with sufficient care, says educator Kirk Miller, DVM.

Zurik Comes Out, On His Own Terms 7th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
So, Zurik remained snug in his hiding place. I decided not to disturb him…yet.
Until he came out from the hiding place and onto the long box on his own.
Once in this position, I know I can reach him to give him his afternoon dose of RetroMAD1. I have done this before though it’s a little risky as I have to crawl in and sit on the shelf to get into a position so that I can syringe in the RetroMAD1 along with force-feeding the AD.
I did that and normally, after taking his meds, he wa...

Zurik Goes MIA…. 7th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
It was about an hour ago when everyone else had their lunch that I noticed Zurik was missing.
Zurik normally does not respond to being called, so calling him is a wasted effort…unless he happens to be hungry, which is not so these days because he eats small meals so often.
So, after feeding everyone, I went to the usual spots to look for him. I checked the storeroom, under the tables and chairs, the high boxes where he likes to sit, the patio, under the vegetable pots – no Zurik.
Th...

Zurik Tips The Scales At 4.8kg! 7th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
First, let me apologise for yesterday’s typo in the subject of the post about Zurik’s breathing pattern. I used “beats” and that led to the confusion that I was talking about his heartbeat. The word should have been “breaths” and not “beats”. Sorry!
I am monitoring Zurik’s breathing pattern to check if there is any laboured breathing which would be indicative of the accumulation of fluids in his lung cavity.
So, the number of BREATHS was 8 pe...

Zurik’s 8 Breaths Per 15 Seconds 6th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
There are a few “vital signs” that I should monitor for Zurik. Besides his appetite and weight, I must also monitor his breathing pattern as this would be an rough indicator of accumulation of fluids in the lung cavity, if any.
Previously, Zurik’s number of breaths in 15 seconds was 15 or even 16.
But today, it’s just EIGHT!
Yes, eight breaths per 15 seconds!!
The number of breaths is not to be confused with the heartbeat, of course. The heartbeat is a totally different t...

A Journey Of A Thousand Steps 5th Jun 2019, by AnimalCare
I’ll take a break from the usual and talk about another part of my life.
I grew up with the self-fulfilling prophecy that I am totally hopeless in sports. I am uncoordinated, directionally dyslexic and have various health issues which compound my utter hopelessness in sports. In school, I would run AWAY from the ball because I was so sure I would never be able to catch it and it would only bonk me on the head. In badminton, I would miss the shuttlecock more than hit it. Until t...

Hence, it’s confirmed that her fur is positively charged!
