A Side Story 30th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
I have another side story from last night.Peggy Tiong has been trying real hard to re-catch the Cool-Cat (she was caught previously, but found to be pregnant already. She has delivered now, and needs to be caught to be spayed again) and another very amorous and adventurous tomcat. So, Peggy asked to borrow one of our traps last night.I took the trap out to the garden and Cow followed me.Then, he slept next to the trap as though guarding it.After some 20 minutes or so, Cow came into my room to nu...

Pole Fights Back 30th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Last night, after what I thought would be a peaceful night where Pole had taken one of the tshirt boxes as her bed, there was an "episode" in the room. It happened too fast to be caught on camera, though. So, there was Pole, sleeping peacefully in the tshirt box while Bunny was on his pink box, as usual, both in the same room. No issue with that. Cow came in and wondered why Pole, of all people, was in the room, so he neared the box to look and check if it was really Pole.Pole got...

Snowy Day 11 29th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Updates from Agnes:Snowy has been breathing with open mouth continuously for the past 3 hours. He seems to be struggling...like the first day I brought him to see the vet, before being given the oxygen therapy. But he's not making any noise. So I hope he's not suffering but I was told that cats have a high tolerance for pain. I have not seen him sleep at all. Maybe the quick breathing prevents him from sleeping? But his vet said he has seen him sleep at his clinic.Today's spoonfeeding is a bit d...

Good News For RetroGirl 29th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
RetroGirl's vet is so happy and impressed with her recovery from TVT (with the help of the RetroMAD1) that he won't be giving her the normal protocol of 4 chemotherapy jabs. We're really happy to hear this. If you encounter any TVT case, you may wish to quicken the regression of the tumour with RetroMAD1. The chemo drug is definitely toxic, so the fewer jabs used, the better, but please be advised that using RetroMAD1 alone will not work.

One Cat Spayed, Another Not Yet (Teh Kar Bin's) 29th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Today, Teh Kar Bin brought in two female cats to be spayed under our sponsorship. These cats are fed by Kar Bin and they live in his neighbourhood. However, two vets did a physical examination on the orange cat and they highly suspect she is already pregnant (perhaps very early). Hence, the orange cat has been returned to Kar Bin and he is advised to bring her back (fasted) after two weeks for another check-up. If there is no signs of pregnancy, the spaying will be done. If not, it would have to ...

Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/urge ntly-required-fosterer-for-two.htmlI spoke to my friend, Sudhamma, on Saturday, and she very graciously offered to foster these two kittens while we do our best to find adopters for them. The rescuer was about to send them to the shelter already since she had to return overseas. So today, the kittens were delivered to Sudhamma in the late afternoon. Sudhamma texted to say that one of them had diarrhoea. Unfortunately, our vets we...

If You Think Spraying Is Bad...wait Till You Hear About "Middening" 29th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
My cousin wrote to me today about this:You might remember we now have four cats. Well, the day before yesterday, I got up to find a real mess on our porch where our cats sleep every night. One of the cats had defecated and smeared its faeces all over the mattress, floor and wall. Clearly a cat in a rage and trying to make a point. This morning, again same thing.Anyway, I've done some internet research and found out this phenomenon is called middening. The culprit, I suspect, is Yevaud, the first...

Snowy Day 10 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Updates from Agnes:I'm still able to spoonfeed Snowy with AD today. This morning a friend came to do reiki for him but only for 15mins because he kept moving around inside the cage. His breathing is very hard and fast with wheezing sometimes. And sometimes with a slightly open mouth. Though he's in this condition, he doesn't sleep at all. Every time I check on him, he's wide awake! Snowy's vet is giving antibiotic, Vetri DMG and Vit B Complex...nothing else. I'm having high hopes on RetroM...

Nica, Injured Dog In Need Of A Fosterer 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
From Teresa Chian:Nica was found lying on the roadside along Bandar Kinrara - Bukit Jalil highway, with her friend - a goat, looking over her (actually I spotted the goat first). She was ran over twice and there was heavy traffic. Luckily for her, she suffered no broken bones. Doctor said she is in shock, is heavily bruised and has some swelling (bleeding from the mouth). Put her on drips and gave her painkillers. Doc said she can leave the clinic, go a fosterer's home to rest and recover. ...

5 Kittens For Adoption (from Dr Veeranoot) 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
This is from Dr Veeranoot (016-3178195). For of you who have been following the updates on this blog would know just how much she has been doing for all these cats and kittens ever since the first two whom she adopted from us more than two years ago. From someone who had never handled a cat before, Dr Veeranoot is now a cat rescuer in her own right, and a very caring and responsible one at that. Four of her kittens were rehomed, but not well-taken care of, so she has taken them back ...

Urgently Required: Fosterer For Abandoned Dog 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
A request from Jaclyn (012-6973257):I found this dog in my neighbour's home as my neighbour has moved out from the house. She was left there alone with food and water and was bound to end up being another stray. I could not bear the sight of having the dog being left fending for herself, hence, I am right now trying to find it a home. Bringing it to the shelter was a no-no, as I tried, and they told me it was a "put to sleep" case as it was more than 5 years old (she is 7 years). I think it woul...

The Wabbits Are Gone... 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/08/rabb its-in-need-of-rescuehelp.htmlI've been communicating with Mun Ee over this rabbit case.Apparently, the rabbits were gone the very next day, so we cannot do anything about it now.I've already got it planned out, like so:1. Mun Ee takes the rabbits.2. We get them treated for the mange. 3. We get them neutered. Cathy knows a vet who does a mighty good job for her rabbits, including the females.4. Someone had agreed to take them in and get the...

We Have THREE Cat-Traps To Lend Out 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Hi everyone, In line with promoting our ongoing One-Street CNRM, we now have THREE cat-traps to lend out to you folks who are game to use it. Cathy uses the trap and there has been no mishaps so far. In fact, Cathy even bought one herself yesterday. But CP used it once and swears she'll never use it again because Blackie banged himself on the cage and injured his face. Not so serious, the vet says, but the experience had traumatised CP so much she swears she doesn't even want to ...

Breakfast, Pole-Hunting And Making Memories 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
My typical day starts with Cleo (the alarm clock) waking me up, and usually, there would be at least two cats in the bedroom (Which two? They take turns and I haven't quite figured out their system yet!). This morning, it was Bunny and Indy. Bobby is of course, still sleeping at my foot. Usually Cow sleeps next to him.So I get up and everyone else is either just outside the room, on the stairs and at the foot of the stairs. But today, Pole wasn't here.I decided to feed the rest first and wi...

Snowy Day 9 (at Night) 28th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
From Agnes:Now he's lying down on one side, wide awake and calm. His breathing is very hard with fast rising and falling of his chest, and a faint wheezing sound. So far he has been a good boy swallowing all the AD and soup without any resistance. I bought a few tins of canned food from Angela to try. He rejected Fussie Cat and Fancy Feast, so I better stick to AD. Now that he's with me, I can feed him a small amount each time at short intervals. The vet said if he can take a whole tin a day, wi...

Snowy Day 9 27th Aug 2011, by AnimalCare
Agnes has taken Snowy home to foster because of the Raya holidays where the clinic would be closed.Updates:Snowy is still not eating on his own. At the clinic, I managed to spoonfeed him with some AD and mashed steamed chicken liver. He drank a bit of the liver soup by himself. I brought him home at 6.30pm. He's in isolation in a room upstairs. At 8.30pm, I spoonfeed him with chicken soup and a tablespoon of AD before giving him the RetroMAD. Though he has no appetite, he's still alert and always...
