Do We Need Crocodiles In Our Lives? (Inside A Chinese Walmart) 4th Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
A friend sent me photographs taken inside a Walmart in China. There were frozen crocodiles (the whole animal with an orange coloured ball stuffed into its open mouth - see below), frozen reptile parts, waxed pig faces, whole frogs, etc., all of sale. I shall spare you the other disturbing photographs.Time to reflect on the stuff we eat, wear and use, folks. Crocodiles, pigs, cows, dogs, cats, goats, chickens, ducks and all animals fear death, too, and I don't think we want to die befo...

As you know, Hero escaped on Friday after being in the cage for hardly a few minutes. He squeezed out through the gap between the door and the cage.Azie texted to say she spotted him today under a neighbour's car. Let's play it cool for now and hope Azie can catch him on Monday night. His hernia surgery is scheduled for Tuesday morning.Hero has a big gaping hole inside his abdomen where some of his organs fall through and hang down as a lump. That's a hernia and it can be repaired by a sim...

On The Home Front 3rd Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Today, there were no cases at the vet's and I had the whole day at home. It's been a sweltering hot day. Looks like nobody wants the favourite chair tonight. Watching Desperate Housewives is a treat for me. Note: Cleo is on top. This morning, apparently, Cleo scolded everyone in the bedroom. You see, it's her duty to wake us up every morning and don't anybody try to upstage her in doing her job. This morning, Cow, Bunny and Indy got ticked off by her (and the three crouched in fear). Sh...

Poor Thing...and How Many Are There Out There? 3rd Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
This evening, we went out to the food court for dinner. This is where I have my lunch on all work-days and I often see cats but they are usually well-fed. I've seen the Wan Tan Mee stall workers giving them shredded chicken and that's always a heartwarming sight. But this evening, I saw a rather emaciated Calico kitten. She appeared to be very hungry and was scavenging for food by going from table to table. You see her? That little boy in red was dropping her bits of his food (bless the littl...

Cats are smart people - they know where to go to ask for help. So, Azie came with two cats today.Tanteng, the female cat, was i...

No Go For Rodeo, Say The Chinese 2nd Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
The Chinese people....you don't know what to say about them....they are known to eat practically anything and everything (earthworms, rhinoceros horns, deer penises), they wax puppies and kittens as delicacies; you name it, they have probably done it. Or, is it because their population is so large that it is due to the law of probability that the Chinese people would have done anything and everything?BUT, lately, animal advocacy has been surfacing in China, which is good. We hear of Chinese anim...

One-Week Fosterer Needed For Pepsi And Cola 1st Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Pepsi and Cola was rescued by someone who had to return overseas, so Sudhamma offered to foster them while we help look for adopters. But next week, Sudhamma, who is a primary school teacher, has been assigned to attend a course for 5 days (out of town), so she needs a fosterer to look after Pepsi and Cola.Pepsi and Cola have no more diarrhoea, and I have advised Sudhamma to get them dewormed by a vet (if the vet thinks they are fit to be dewormed). They currently eat rice and fish. ...

The Question Of Taking Responsibility 1st Sep 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://www.myanimalcare.org/2011/06/mone y-is-yours-but-resources-belong-to.htmlI have posted this article (above) before, but today seems a good time to re-post it again, especially in light of my conversation recently with a very skilful and compassionate vet in the Klang Valley.I spoke to this vet and asked if he would consider offering a rescue rate for spay-neuter so that we could provide a panel vet in his area. I like his style because he would not give up easily on any animal a...
