Female Cat Spayed, Kittens For Adoption (Mrs Tham’s)
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Mrs Tham wrote to me two days ago: In my last mail, I told you I could not keep the 4 kittens as I have 2 mongrels in my house and it is too small to keep another 4 kittens and a cat!  As it is they are now running all over the car porch, sleeping under the car wheels etc that I find very stressful whenever I neeed to go out.  Moreover, I’m not a ‘cat’ person and have always been afraid of going too near them. I’ve now got someone to take the photos for the kittens for...

Courage, The Paralysed Dog (Cheras Case)
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/s-o-s-help-n eeded-urgently-to-rescue-an-injured-dog-in-cheras/ Uncle Charles brought the Cheras dog in and I met them there. Here she is. She appears to be not aggressive at all. Charles had nothing but praises for Rohani and her husband, Nizam. Although they could not touch dogs as per their religious beliefs, they helped in every way possible. Our vet came back and opened the carrier door. He wanted to see how the dog would react. Soon enough, the dog ...

S.O.S – Help Needed Urgently To Rescue An Injured Dog In Cheras
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

I just received an sms and a call from a lady named Rohani (016-9063127) from Cheras. According to her, the residents in her area beat up a street dog last night, causing the poor dog to be unable to use its hind legs. It can only crawl around with its front legs now. Currently, Rohani has fed the dog some cat kibble and the dog has eaten. It is resting under a car (it is raining now). Rohani is very worried that the same residents might beat the dog again and she is appealing for help to rescue...

In Loving Memory Of Jackie (Catherina Tay’s)
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

As pledged, we have sponsored a sum of RM297, which is 50% of Jackie’s treatment while boarded at UPM before she succumbed to the disease (Hemobart and kidney insufficiency). In turn, Catherina is re-donating the entire sum back to our fund as hers and Jackie’s contribution to help other animals. We thank Catherina for her very noble and generous gesture. Yesterday was the 7th day anniversary of Jackie’s passing. Jackie must be in a better place now. Maybe as Catherina’s ...

Updates On Kitty-4
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/kitty-4-back -to-the-vets/ I just managed to check with the vet. Kitty-4 have worms, so all have been dewormed. They have diarrhoea as well, but can’t be sure which ones are having it. One is particularly quiet, so that’s a bit worrying. The vet is also a bit worried they may have a viral infection. I hope they will make it.

Be A Street Animal Defender
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Below is a message from Humane Society International: Think about the dog in your life and what makes him or her so special. Maybe it’s her silly grin and sneezy bark that welcomes you at the door. Or perhaps it’s how his tail wags wildly as he “patiently” waits for his meal. Whatever it is, your dog owns your heart. But can you imagine that instead of your beloved friend living with you in a safe home, he lived on the streets? For street dogs around the world, it’s a vastly differ...

Kitty-4 Back To The Vet’s
18th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/10/found-foster er-for-5-abandoned-kittens/ If you remember, on 25th October, Kitty-5, five tiny kittens, were dumped in a box outside our panel vet’s clinic. Our vet asked me to help look for a fosterer, and I found one that day itself. So, Kitty-5 were sent to her and all seemed well. The agreement was that once the kitties could eat kibble on their own, the vet would take them back and put them up for adoption. Last week, the fosterer informed me that ...

One Female Cat Spayed (Kaegen Loh’s)
16th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

I received this a few days ago: Dear Dr.Chan, This is Kaegen Loh. I am in Form 5 from SS17 SJK and I rescued a cat which was found in a class room drawer in my school. I guess someone must have left the cat there. Since it was only about 2weeks old, I decided to take the cat home instead of leaving her there. That was how I adopted the cat. I named her “Maia”.  I heard from my mum, Anne Loh  about you and would like to spay my cat. Enclosed is a photo of “Maia” for y...

Two Male Cats Neutered (Sumitra Siew’s)
16th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Lockey and Manja are two male cats previously rescued and fostered by Sumitra, and many months ago, adopted by Puteri Nazalyia Zarique (also known as Ababyl). Sumitra has requested our financial assistance in helping to neuter Lockey and Manja as they are of age now. It is Sumitra’s practice to follow-up until the spaying-neutering of cats adopted under her. As per our policy, we will still help if it’s a baby animal, adopted from the street within one year. It is our offer to encour...

Sumitra and Ms Teh shared this story below: According to the news release from China’s People’s News, whether people believe it or not, this incident actually happened in Hong Kong. The Weekly World Newsreported that a group of workers were bringing a waterbuffalo into a packaging factory, ready to slaughter it to make steak and beef stew. When they approached the front door of the slaughterhouse, the sorrowful buffalo suddenly stood still, refusing to move forward, kneeling on its two ...

Burt Passes Away (Norshidah’s)
16th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Norshidah just informed me that Burt has just passed away. Burt is the sporo-cat who had been under treatment for more than two months now. The first vet did his best; Burt was treated with Itraconazole and antibiotics when he fell ill. However, the vet but found no significant improvement after more than a month. Burt had also begun to lose weight. So, Burt was discharged and sent to another vet to continue treatment. Yesterday, the vet informed Nor that Burt had gone very weak suddenly. Just n...

How One Person Helps The Street Animals In Her Neighbourhood
16th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

A reader who has requested anonymity, has been sharing her thoughts with me on the subject of caring for street animals. The topic of returning neutered animals as “community animals” came up, which we say is our “next best option” should we be unable to find homes for our rescues, ie. we return them to the colony because we have no other way to help them when most of the no-kill sanctuaries are already full. From an ecological point of view, this measure is also supposed...

16th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

From Jessy Lian: Dear Dr.Chan, Do you remember I bought Pretty Mama to the panel clinic to spay back in September, but the operation was aborted because she was suspected to be pregnant. Well, she is definitely pregnant & has given birth to 3 kittens a few weeks ago. I have been feeding her all this while, but fail to track down her hiding place with her kittens. Until last night one of my neighbour told me that the kittens were in his house. They were inside a styrofoam box & I have ask...
