Indy And Tiger Go For Their Vaccinations
29th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

After coming back from visiting Sugar and seeing that today the vet’s was not crowded, I thought I’d take Indy for his check-up. If you’ve been following Indy’s news, he is a suspect kidney problem cat because there was protein in his urine and he used to lick a lot of water from the running tap. However, his previous kidney readings (done in August) showed that everything was normal. Indy was also due for his vaccination and Tiger (and Cow & Bunny) are already overdu...

Sugar’s Amputation Went Well, But… (Eling Chan’s)
29th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Today is Sugar’s scheduled surgery and I’ve been calling the vet’s for updates.  The surgery went well, and the vets are finishing the procedure now. The surgery lasted almost 2 hours because there was a bit of excessive bleeding but Sugar’s PCB level was good after the surgery. However, an attempt to spay her revealed that she had already been previously spayed. This would mean either she was someone’s pet (abandoned, ran away, lost, etc) or her spaying was done b...

More On The Disagreement Of Having “community Animals”
29th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

The same reader writes again to share her views below. I can truly empathise with why she feels so strongly about NOT having community animals. It is based on her experience with their local council. If my local council were that mean, I also would not recommend returning any animal to the street again. Thank you, Anon, for your sharing. Dear Dr. Chan, I would like to quote the four principles of Indian Spirituality which you quoted in one your blog postings; “Whomsoever you encounter is the r...

29th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

From Pooi Ling: Hi Dr. Chan, would appreciate your assistance to blog for adopter for Do Do. She has been loitering around my housing area 2 weeks before I took her back in early Oct 2011. I’ve posted abt her in petfinder and MDDB online adoption page to get her adopted since then. I’ve managed to rehome her twice, but ended up with her being returned to me. First  adopter took her in for a week and returned her to me, telling me that she does not have the time to care for a dog a...

From Shamiela Jane: Lily wondered into a gallery in Jln Gasing, PJ. The merchant was kind to let her stay but she had to be chained outside. Sunshine Courage’s Car Ride And Her 3rd Acupuncture Session
29th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Being a public holiday today, I was able to drive down to help my friend take Sunshine Courage for her 3rd acupuncture treatment. My friend thinks Sunshine might welcome a change of scenery and a car ride…. Hello there, Sunshine! She looks so well, doesn’t she? That’s her Baby Wipes. And her MamyPoko XL diapers. The urine burns on her body is healing very well.  That’s really good – it means her healing potential is good. My friend and I put Sunshine into the ...

28th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Dear all, Apologies to everyone if you were not able to get into our website a few minutes ago. We were hacked and it went into a “I’m proud to be a Muslim” website instead. Many thanks to our webhosters, Geekyhost (Wah and Huey) for their quick actions in restoring our website.  I hope nothing is lost. And why….do hackers do what they do? Sigh…. A good reminder that all things are impermanent…do the needful for the moment, record it if you must (for audit pu...

The Magic Mirror, Etc.
27th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

This evening, I took a break from the usual routine. My friend invited us to watch the musical, Magic Mirror, so it was an evening of theatre for us. I love the theatre, musicals and the performing arts, if only just to watch and be transported to a magical world, so to speak.   Guan Yin is a very popular personification and spiritual symbol of compassion and selflessness in Chinese culture. The message behind the story is that Guan Yin comes in different forms to help those in need, but t...

Ref: http://www.care2.com/causes/woman-helps-litt le-gopher-in-trouble-stunning-thank-you.html   ;   Written by Wendy Bays of Ontario, Canada I was the oldest of six children along with numerous rescued cats and dogs.  Our (late) mother was on her own and it was a struggle for her but, she would always take in another needy animal that found its way to our doorstep.  One day, down the street where we lived there was a group of young children leaping and laughing at something ...

Kitty-3 Down To Kitty-2, And One Fading…
26th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

It’s so sad….one of the kittens passed away a few days ago, and today, one is very weak.  I just called and the vet assistant said she has put the weak one on the heating pad. Its temperature is subnormal. Apparently, the cause of death is unknown. They had already been dewormed by the vet and the vet assistant has been looking after them by taking them home every day. Even the one left standing has stopped eating now. Some things are just out of our hands as they are with the vet n...

Veggie Lunch For Dummies (in 20 Minutes!)
26th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Ever since I wrote the post about my blended veggie and fruit breakfast, there had been a few comments saying there should be more TV shows on vegetarian cooking, and since everyone is so busy these days, it should be simple cooking, too. Well, here’s my contribution below. I just cooked vegetarian fried beehoon just now, so if anyone is as “dummified” as I am in cooking, you may want to take a look at what I do! It IS edible, no worries! Soak the beehoon in water to soften it...

Whoa…here We Go Again!
26th Nov 2011, by AnimalCare

Each time I deal with challenging humans, our policies expands! And maybe once in a while, I need to put up a post to ever-so-gently remind everyone what we can provide and what we cannot. It’s all here: http://myanimalcare.org/policies/ In short: What we cannot provide: A.  We are NOT a shelter and cannot take in your rescues. B.  We are NOT a rescue team and have no expertise or skills in doing rescue work; but we will source for help on your behalf. C.  We cannot provide transportat...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/looking-for- a-vet-in-klang-near-taman-eng-aun-or-a-house/ Last night, I wrote to another friend in Klang to ask if she could help with sourcing another vet or a place to do the spay-neuter for Uncle’s street dogs. She says she will ask the vets around Taman Eng Aun and spread the word around. For those who have not been following this news, here’s what is going on, in a nutshell: 1. This elderly Uncle is feeding many strays and they are also mul...
