Updates On The Siberian Husky 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
My post on the lady who wanted to throw out her 2 year-old Siberian Husky to the streets caught many readers’ attention and thanks to Lee, who wrote to say her friend is looking for a Siberian Husky (but not from a breeder), arrangements have been made now, and we hope the Husky will go to Lee’s friend by Tuesday.
Yesterday, I managed to contact the Chinese-speaking lady, Ah Yoke, and Lee’s friend got hold of the owner’s mother’s phone number, but tried as she did, ...

My Home-Cooked Meal For Bobby And The Cats 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I thought I should try my hands at home-cooking for Bobby and the cats now that we have read so much literature on it, and many have shared their time-tested recipes.
This is what I used for today:
Meat:
Chicken carcass
Chicken liver
Some mutton and beef that a friend gave me (from her catfood)
Chicken breastmeat with skin
Veggies:
Carrot
Pumpkin
Potato (small amounts)
Parsley
The meat stuff.
Veggies to be added in later.
I remember Dr Susanna saying it’s 95% protein and 5% veggies f...

Another Tabby? 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This morning, we heard Tiger complaining in Mac’s place at the back of the house…
What’s wrong, Tiger?
Oh, there’s a visitor in the back alley…
It’s a tabby and wears a blue collar.
A blue collar with a bell, just like Tab’s red collar with a bell.
My husband thought maybe it’s Tabs’ sibling or parent coming to look for her. But we couldn’t risk taking Tabs out, especially when she has just been spayed.
This time, Tiger w...

Vegetarian Stew For Dummies 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Being one who is just so lazy to cook, but now am forced (albeit very willingly) to make home-cooked food for Bobby and the cats, I thought it would only be fair that I cook for the humans as well!
Here’s today recipe for a simple dump-everything-in-and-boil vegetarian stew which we had as our Christmas lunch this afternoon.
Let’s see now…I put onions, potatoes, carrots and hairy cucumber in to boil first. The hairy cucumber didn’t quite blend in later, so don’t in...

Here’s another healthy and delicious recipe for dogs from Cassandra Yee:
Hi Dr.Chan,
My 2 dogs are on home-cooked food too. They are fed twice a day. Usually small portion of kibble (Canine Caviar) mixed with can food (Natural Balance) in the morning & home-cooked meal at night.
I cook one big pot enough for one week, divide into daily portion and freeze. Each week is a different combination. This is the list of ingredients which I mix & match to try give them the all-rounded nutri...

Better Than A Watchdog! 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Here’s an amazing story from Mrs Wong:
He’s no scaredy cat: Amazing pictures of brave moggy as he chases away curious fox
By Daily Mail Reporter
Last updated at 4:55 PM on 22nd December 2011
Sioma the fearless feline proved he’s one mean moggy after being caught on camera chasing away a curious fox.
The crafty cat showed no fear as he frightened off the fox after it slinked onto his ‘territory’ near his home in Kamchatka, Russia.
The incredible chase was capture...

Dr Veeranoot’s Rescue Story 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Here’s a sharing from Dr Veeranoot:
Attached are the photos of a male black cat as one of my regular
customers for evening dinner at my area. I managed to rescue him on
the evening of 19th December, 2011.
I planed to bring him to the vet on the following day but it causes so
much of delay due to his cleverness of not letting himself inside the
carrier. I was slightly bitten, I gave up and finally called the vet
to my place on 22nd December in late afternoon, the vet gave him a jab
and sl...

Serving As Humble Rafts 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
While this may not be your typical Christmas message, I thought it’s great food for thought. If Christmas is a time to reflect on our capacity to love, share and give for the goodwill of all, then, let us strengthen our commitment to love, share and give and let us include the animals, too!
From Eknath Easwaran’s Thought for the Day:
Ah! would the heart but be a manger for the birth,
God would become once more a little child of earth.
Immeasurable is the Highest! Who but knows it?
An...

Home-Cooked Catfood From A First-Timer 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Teddy and Xiao Li are two of my rescued cats last year. They were adopted together by Eugene, a single retiree.
Eugene must have read my blog postings and yesterday, he made a first attempt at cooking for Teddy and Xiao Li. For a man who doesn’t cook his own meals, isn’t this sweet of him?
Here’s his sharing:
I boiled the following and blended them into a paste:
a. Chicken breastmeat
b. Chicken liver and heart
c. Celery
d. Carrot
e. English parsley
I dont think I wil...

Christmas Breakfast For My Brood 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Merry Christmas everyone!
This is the best picture I could take of my brood this morning. It isn’t often I can get all of them to eat at the same time because usually someone would be late in coming to the kitchen, but this morning, everyone was here.
Yes, even the Sheikh.
Can you spot all of them?
Aww…I only got little Tab’s ear (right below) – see the pointy ear above this sentence? That’s her. Cow is behind Tiger. When we move, I’ll have to work on ̶...

Tabs’ News 24th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Tabs has been very well-behaved ever since getting spayed. I guess it’s the recovery period and she’s not exactly feeling that well yet.
I have been keeping her confined in my room all day. It’s better than being caged up.
Pole came by to visit and just take a look at how fierce Tabs is (look at those ears!).
When I come into the room, Tabs ambushes me from behind the door and tries to get out. She’s VERY fast.
So far four vets have said she’s cross-breed, ...

Indy Finishes All His Jabs!! 24th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This evening, I brought Indy for his last antibiotic jab and guess what, Indy BENT the needle!
That’s his way of saying, “I’m done….goodbye needle!”
But his acupuncture is still ongoing, of course.
Indy back home after his last jab.
One would think he would be fed-up of AD, but he is not. I’m glad he has a good appetite now.
We hope we would not have to go to the vet’s for a long, long time, Indy.
You’ll have to eat more healthily now.
I o...

Calling For Lee (Re: The Siberian Husky) 24th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/23/7290/
Lee , if you are reading this, please contact me as soon as possible regarding your friend’s intention to adopt a Siberian Husky. I have just made contact with the Chinese-speaking lady and the Husky has NOT been thrown out yet.
Your friend can then liaise directly with the mother of the owner. It is the mother who is “fostering” the Husky now, after I persuaded the Chinese-speaking lady to tell them to please hang on.
Lee, please ...

Indy, Bunny And Friends, And My Diet Conversion Project 24th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This morning, I think it must have been at 5am or earlier that Indy came to wake me up by nudging me repeatedly. He was really persistent but I was also persistently dead-beat and could not get up at all. So Indy finally let me sleep on until 6.45am.
Downstairs at the kitchen, everyone came in. Including The Sheikh (Bunny)! Bunny was actually waiting for me at the landing of the stairs as I came down. Now, that’s a great improvement. The Sheikh doesn’t need breakfast-in-bed this morn...

Tabs Is Doing Fine 24th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Last night, after the anaesthesia wore off, Tabs probably wasn’t feeling too good as she did not want to eat. I offered food and she wasn’t interested, so I let her be. She did, however, urinate many times in the litter box.
Tiger and Cow came to visit.
I finally succeeded in persuading Tiger to take back his throne.
Cow, as usual, is having a huge security issue here.
He too wants to claim a spot in the room.
Dr Susanna says one of the first things I must change in the q...

Some Links On Catfood From Dr Lisa Pierson 23rd Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Here are some links on catfood which Dr Susanna shared with me:
http://catinfo.org/?link=cannedfoods
http://ca tinfo.org/docs/Tips%20for%20Transitioning%20PDF%20 1-14-11.pdf
http://catinfo.org/?link=makingcatfood #Raw vs Cooked
According to Dr Lisa Pierson, any type of canned food is still better than dry food and the reason is that cats need water. Canned food has more water than dry food.
She writes: Keep in mind that the cheapest canned food is better than any dry food on the market.
Who is ...
