A Rescuer Reminisces His Year’s Work (Koo’s) 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Koo is an animal rescuer, fosterer and caregiver who has responded many times whenever we blogged for help. And he’s not what you would call an old hand or a ”seasoned” rescuer as he only started recently.
Here, he reminisces some of the cases he did in this year, amongst many, many others.
We encourage you to write about your work as a sharing and inspiration to others. Write and send them to me, with photos. I’ll blog it for you!
As 2011 draws to a close, we take this...

Kittens For Adoption In Ipoh (Chandrika Ashni’s) 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Chandrika Ashni is a student from Ipoh and at this young age, she is already a rescuer. She has kittens for adoption (please see below). Would truly appreciate if we could all help her and forward this link to friends and family in Ipoh.
From Chandrika:
Hi and how are you? I hope you are doing great and still on your feet for the souls who needs you.
I read your book, “See you at Rainbow Bridge”. Believe me or not, i cried so much because it reminds me of my dear pets. I went throug...

More And More… 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
You know what’s very encouraging as I sit here at the computer writing the day’s reports and stories?
That more and more strangers and first-timers are writing in to ask for advice and help with their animals. Today itself, I received three requests for advice from first-timers, and one actually decided to rescue after hearing us on the BFM interview.
So, all this blogging, interviews, etc. really does make a difference. We need the publicity to reach out further and get more people ...

Sunshine’s 4th Acupuncture Session And Updates 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Updates on Sunshine:
Hi Kah Yein,
Here are some photos which are from Sunshine’s 4th acupuncture session at home 2weeks ago and Dr Susanna was not able to schedule us this week so the next session is next Thurs at home. Sunshine was very relaxed and even started dozing off during the session and it was good to see that it relaxed her.
For her 4th acupuncture session, dr Susanna found several points that were blocked and these corresponded to her skin, intestines and tendons. And indeed, ...

Gosh… 27th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
A friend has just alerted me to the fact that a magazine has published an interview with me. In his words, it was my name (albeit spelt wrongly on the Contents page), my story, but the photo isn’t me.
That’s strange because the magazine that interviewed me previously said the article would be sent to me for vetting first, and it would only come out in the January issue.
No article was sent to me for vetting, so I’m really surprised it’s already been published. I’m a...

Updates On Fifi, The Rescued Siberian Husky (Lee’s) 27th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Lee and I have been communicating via sms on the progress in Fifi’s case. Lee says she would really want to look for a good adopter, preferably someone with experience in looking after huskies and Lee is not in any hurry to get Fifi adopted.
This morning, Lee said a friend of hers, who is crazy about huskies might be interested to adopt Fifi as a companion to his male husky. That sounds really good – an experienced husky owner. Decision this weekend.
And later in the morning, Lee sai...

Tiger’s New Playmate 27th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
You know how I have four cats from the Cow family and they don’t get along with anyone? These would be Cow, Bunny, Pole and Cleo. Cow is alpha and misunderstood. Cleo is alpha and longs for her mother, Pole’s affections but Pole rejects Cleo. Bunny…well, Bunny is the Bunnyphant and even though he is not alpha, by virtue of his size, he is perceived to be alpha and he is a bully, too.
That leaves only Tiger and Indy and both are rather passive and docile cats, but terribly intim...

Science-Based Nutrition For Animals 27th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Still more on nutrition, Su Ann shared the following link which would be useful for those interested in research studies:
http://www.sciencebasedmedicine.org/index .php/the-top-ten-pet-supplements-do-they-work/
And oh, by the way, today all of my brood except Cleo ate the home-cooked meal mixed with canned food. Bunny and Tabs ate home-cooked on its own. The rest did not mind home-cooked either. But Cleo was clearly turned off and walked away. She came back later asking for food, so I gave her c...

Fifi, The Rescued 2-Year Old Siberian Husky 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Change, they say, is the only constant in our life. Change and death, I suppose. All else remains an uncertainty.
Days ago, Lee’s friend was so sure he wanted to adopt the Siberian Husky, but this morning, Lee told me he wasn’t sure anymore. Apparently, he has some things to take care of first.
But Lee had already made arrangements with the owner to take over the dog today itself, so Lee texted for help if we could find an adopter for the husky in the event that her friend does not w...

Karuna Has A New Foster Home 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
If you remember, on 7th July 2011, Karuna was rescued in dire straits, attacked by a pack of wild dogs outside the temple grounds and brought to our vet. She was “paralysed” the first day, was in lateral recumbency and our vet recommended that we have her euthanised since she was so very old and she had no owner.
Of course we said no, and I asked the vet to do everything necessary to make her as well as she possibly can be.
Karuna on the day of rescue.
She was shaven bald because th...

On The Homefront 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I think (fingers crossed) that Bunny’s worst is over or his body has sorted itself out and we still don’t know what was wrong with him for the last two weeks. The vet said to let it be as long as his fever isn’t too high and he is still eating (which he definitely was!). Throughout this period, I gave him Vetri DMG twice a day and Neurobion as well because he was limping on the back leg. The vet said it could be arthritis.
Well, today, Bunny seemed much, much better. Not only d...

Supplements For Your Pets (Joy E. Saga’s) 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Joy E. Saga shared this, I think it’s a wonderful link, full of useful information and as it says right at the top – The Best Diets are Fed with Love!
http://www.pet-grub.com/appendixA/pet_supple ments_i_use
It says that if we can only afford one supplement for our pets, it would have to be a calcium supplement and we can actually make our own with ground eggshells!
There are lots of very useful tips in the link. Do please read it through.
Thank you, Joy!

And At Breakfast This Morning… 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
In my quest to change so many of the not-so-good habits of my cats (due to my own ignorance, lack of commitment and persistence in the past years), I remind myself that even Dr Susanna took 3 years to convert her most challenging cat from kibble to home-cooked.
So, whatever “achievement” I can get in less than 3 years is a cause for celebration already.
Armed with that “consolation”, I plod on…
So, it’s only been barely a week of introducing so many changes, e...

Links On Using Eggshells As A Source Of Calcium Powder 26th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
A few readers have written in saying they cannot find calcium powder for their pets. Why not consider using ground eggshells?
A reader shared these:

Vegans Explain Why They Eat Meat Again 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
I like to provide views from both sides of the coin on issues that we raise, so here’s one that is quite objective:
Source: http://www.care2.com/causes/fo rmer-vegans-explain-why-they-eat-meat.html
I suppose this is why I’ve never promoted vegetarianism PER SE, rather, I urge readers to EAT LESS MEAT. Even in my latest book, “Do We Have a Choice?”, I ask that we consider eating less meat, even if it’s just once a week. I fully understand that not everyone can becom...

Yay! They Ate My Food! 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
So, I blended the “muck” I cooked up for Bobby and the cats, and I was going to give it to them for breakfast tomorrow, but Tiger came by as I was halfway blending the food.
Oh, it’s Christmas….a little bit of supper won’t hurt, I thought. And I was also eager to try out my new food even though I know the cats aren’t supposed to be hungry yet.
Never mind…here goes nothing…
The blender kept stopping – I think the blade isn’t right for...

When A Cat Doesn’t Like Its Litter…(LOL!!) 25th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Maneki’s owner and I talk about cat issues often, and the subject of cat litter came up.
So what cat litter do you use? And which type actually works for your cat(s)?
Maneki’s owner couldn’t resist sending me a photo of her friend’s cat, Yin (full name: Lady Faye Yin) who simply refused to touch pine litter.
I’ll let Maneki tell the story. It’s always better and more funny from the first person!
I laughed, too, when I read your woes about introducing change to...
