Kitten Urgently In Need Of Fosterer (Lim Mei Leng’s) 31st Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Mei Leng is a rescuer in her own right and she also adopted one of our Klang Pound rescues, Perky. Jenny (a street dog from Puchong, with a very bad leg) was also rescued by her and subsequently rehomed at a no-kill sanctuary after recovering from an amputation of the leg, all sponsored by Mei Leng.
Yesterday, Mei Leng rescued a little kitten and she called me this morning.
Here’s the story:
As per our teleconversation, i rescued this little kitten last night. i have given some milk and wa...

One Female Cat Spayed (Amiratul Fathiyah’s) 30th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Amiratul Fathiyah wrote to me a few days ago requesting help to spay-neuter two female cats, Capoo and Ren. The appointment was made today, but I received no sms from Amiratul before or after the spaying.
I finally contacted our vet and he said only one cat has already been spayed while one was not fit enough to be spayed as she was a bit too skinny.
The cats have already been collected.
The cost of the spaying is sponsored from our funds.
These are the photos provided by Amiratul of the two cat...

New Policy From 4th January 2012 30th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
With reference to http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/30/at-our-pane l-vets/, I have just spoken to one of our panel vets about this problem.
He has been helping us A LOT in the past two years with our spay-neuter cases. I explained to him that I had never intentionally intercepted his patients by offering the subsidy, but due to the recommendations of his assistant, I have previously thought the recommendation had come from him.
He understood where I was coming from and said he is aware of this pr...

At Our Panel Vets 30th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
As you know, ever since one lady created so much trouble for us amongst our panel vet, another vet and myself, we ceased having panel vets for medical treatment with immediate effect. Ever since that incident, rescuers get to go to any vet they like, and they are welcome to claim a subsidy from us if they satisfy our criteria for claims.
I thought that would have solved the problem and we kept to just two panel vets in Subang Jaya for spay-neuter only where we sponsor in full.
Apparently, no.
To...

The Cats’ New Pressure Cooker 30th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This morning at breakfast, the cats were fascinated by this new shiny pot in the kitchen…
What’s that, they ask.
It’s the new pressure cooker I bought for them yesterday!
The brand is WMF and I chose the 6.5 litres. In case any of you are interested, it’s on offer now, priced at RM999 (usual price is RM1599) and there are many other sizes and even a pack of two pots with one cover. Accessories are also available from the same company. WMF is a German brand and a fri...

Bunny And Indy’s Acupuncture 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Today was Indy’s 4th acupuncture and Bunny’s 3rd.
Dr Susanna is very happy with Indy’s progress. His pulse is much, much stronger today, and he is as good as it gets! So, instead of 8 treatments, four already got Indy back to health and he doesn’t need anymore treatments.
Bunny’s pulse, unfortunately, is still almost “non-existent”, which means it is very, very weak. As stout and as “German” as our StarWars walker is, Bunny is actually in poo...

The Cat House On The Kings 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
This is a sharing by Joy E. Saga as a response to my earlier post “Just as I was saying…” (about the Selangor Government’s intention to set up a centralised pound).
Please see this: http://www.cathouseonthekings.com/index.php
We appeal to our elected authorities to consider the above.
Yes, Joy, I’ve decided to join you on your day-dreaming, too!
And folks, day-dreaming is one thing, let’s get on with our CNRM!

Just As I Was Saying… 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Just when I had just written the last post about our elected authorities not doing enough for the stray animals or animals in general, Wani sent me this link below:
http://www.freemalaysiatoday.com/2011/12/27 /rm5-million-centralised-state-run-pound-in-the-wo rks/
According to the report, the Selangor State government is going to start a “centralised pound”.
As I understand it, a “pound” would still be a place where un-claimed animals are still euthanised. So, that’...

Cat Shelters In New York City Get Stylish In Winter 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Another sharing by Joy E. Saga:
http://www.zootoo.com/petnews/cat-shelters-g et-stylish-spin-in-nyc-1909
We know we have a long way to go to cultivate this level of kindness to animals in our elected authorities. That is why all I’ve ever asked for when I have any opportunity to speak with the power-that-be is to please spare our ear-notched animals. Not asking for anymore than that. Not asking for better management of the pounds, not asking for subsidised spay-neuter at government vets, n...

Today’s Breakfast 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Last night, I had a “brainwave” – Since I haven’t got the pressure cooker yet, I’ll put everything into the slowcooker and let it brew overnight, in time for breakfast today.
This morning, I was not awakened not by the cats, but by the aroma of this stew. Yes, it went all the way upstairs!
Everybody loved the food (albeit mixed with canned food). Everyone but Cleo. Cleo sniffed at it, made a whining sound and ran off. She came back later to look for food. I offered...

The Many Faces Of Tabs 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
It’s portrait time for Her Royal Tabness!
Tiger takes the “higher” throne. Tabs is happy with the slightly lower one.
She likes to sit behind my laptop when I do my work – yes, as an inspirational good-luck charm for me!
Asking Bobby to play with her.
Kittens just love boxes, don’t they?
That’s the irresistible face…
Her Royal Cuteness!
She’s been more obedient and well-behaved since her spaying, but she is still trying to get ...

Kittens For Adoption In Bintulu (Nurul Hikmah’s) 29th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
A request from Bintulu:
From:
Nurul Hikmah
phia_009@yahoo.com
Message:
Hi Dr. Chan,
I’ve 3 kittens for adoption. These were our house’ cats, but sadly
we’ll move to a smaller house with limited area for our cats. I’m also
not financially capable to bring them to vet in case of emergencies
etc, so therefore I hope someone can take them and give full attention
to them.
They’re 2 females and 1 male (all-white are male), I estimate them to
be 5-6 months. Not yet neuteur...

A New CNRM-Er In The Making 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
The radio interview does make a difference and it gives our work publicity, because I have been getting emails after that.
Here’s one, from Liew, who is now interested in becoming a rescuer, to do CNRM on the cats in his office area and neighbourhood together with a friend.
Here’s Liew’s first email to me:
Just heard you guys on bfm earlier… I’m in need to resolve stray
cats issue… Pls can you advice what to do?
There’s a mom with 3 kids take hideout at ...

Updates On Fifi, The Rescued Siberian Husky (Lee’s) 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, I contacted Ah Yoke to ask if she could get anymore information about Fifi from the former owner as Lee is concerned about Fifi’s medical history.
This morning, Ah Yoke called to say Fifi had actually been through surgery due to a case of poisoning (that explains why Fifi had vomited blood once before). During this surgery, Fifi was also spayed. The owner had offered to speak with her vet in Puchong to release information about Fifi to Lee.
Meanwhile, here are updates from Lee:

We have pledged our medical subsidy for Vicneswary to help with the bill.
More urgently, Vicnes needs a fosterer.
I will be lending my cage to Vicnes should she need it temporarily for the dog, Viva.

Lab Retriever Found In Ara Damansara (Eileen Ng’s) 28th Dec 2011, by AnimalCare
From Eileen Ng:
This male dog was found on Boxing Day. He was looking scared and trying to cross the road when some motorcycles tried to run him down. Jumped into my car when i opened the door, He is neutered and very well behaved. Has a distinctive blue tongue. Quiet and playful, and knows some tricks. No collar found on him, the blue collar belongs to me. Please help to post this on your website. Hope he will be reunited with his family by the new year.
