The “Pole-Ish” Escapade Story Continues… 7th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Ever since Pole’s daring one-of-a-kind escapades yesterday (and TWICE within a few hours), I have been trying my best to keep my sanity.
I had no other better option than to lock her in the cage for a few hours while I was attending yesterday’s TPPM briefing and even later, when I had to pack tshirts and prepare for today’s event.
I did let her out for a few minutes at a time, but under very close supervision.
And each time, she would head for the sidegate in preparation to jum...

A Sharing From Ipoh (Akmar’s) 7th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Here’s a sharing from Akmar, all the way from Ipoh:
Dear Dr. Chan,
My name is Akmar and I’ve been informally ‘introduced’ to your blog
ever since the Petknode fiasco. I must say that I really appreciate
your efforts in educating the public on responsibility towards the
animals. For as long as I could remember, it has been a long time
since I had last seen a group of people who are so passionate about
the cause and I’m so glad that I’ve found others who share t...

Sunshiny Stories Of Sunshine! 7th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Happy updates from my friend who is fostering, looking after and rehabilitating Sunshine Courage:
Hi Kah Yein,
The end year festive season and the visit of my parents for Christmas and the New Year just made the days fly past. We also have had new challenges with Sunshine.
Sunshine has so much renewed energy!! She is probably getting “cabin fever” and sometimes stretches her neck out of her play pen to grab her posters with her mouth and chew on them. It’s time to get creati...

Clearly Something “not Quite Right” 7th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I’m sorry I have to say this, but I hope you’d allow me to say my piece and be done with it. I need to get this off my chest.
Remember the schoolteacher who refused to understand policies and feigns ignorance whenever anything does not favour her? She was the one who broke my (camel’s) back and made me decide to do away with panel vets once and for all.
She had earlier borrowed two of our cages for long-term use since she wanted to spay a few cats. She wanted them until late Ja...

Cat-Feeding Help Required (Roberta Fong’s) 7th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
From:
Roberta Fong
robfong77@yahoo.com
Message:
Hello, I am a cat lover. I am feeding 9 feral colonies and about 100
cats in Section 17. It takes 3-4 hours daily to take care of the
comminity cats. Am wondering if anyone lives in Sec 17, PJ and would
like to help with the feeding.
I also spay/neuter the cats, mainly those friendly enough to be caught
by me, and put into a pet carrier. And the cats will be sent to a
clinic in Sec 17. I board the female cats for 7days and male cats for
2days with ...

Cookie, Missing For A Year, Re-United With Family (Cassie Fernandez’s) 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/03/cookie-fe male-cat-spayed-cassie-fernandezs/
On 3rd November, Cassie Fernandez brought a rescued cat, Cookie, to be spayed under our sponsorship. Cassie also re-donated to our fund after that. Cookie was “rescued” because she was lost, and Cassie looked after her very well.
Yesterday, Cassie wrote to say Cookie actually has a family, and she had been lost for a year!
Unbelievable…but true. Read on…
From Cassie:

From Mei Leng:
Good afternoon. Just want to tell u about Jane. Jane fosterer, Hanie called me on Tuesday (3/1/12) and agreed to adopt Jane. Hanie fell in love immediately with Jane when she saw her. Nightmare In Broad Daylight 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
The moment Dr S left my house, I had a gut feeling Pole had escaped again. True enough, when I rushed back to check, she had.
She was not in Bunny’s Place.
I called and heard her mewing. She was up on the 8-foot wall, walking on the ledge. She kept mewing, wanting to come down, but was too afraid.
She kept walking along the wall, not knowing how to come down.
She’s clearly stressed as she was hyperventilating through her mouth.
She went to the back wall (there is no back al...

Bobby’s Acupuncture 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Dr Susanna came today, for Bobby’s and Bunny’s acupuncture.
For Bobby, it would be for his spleen and kidneys.
It’s acupuncture for his general wellbeing so that he won’t “vegetate” all the time.
Bunny came to oversee everything.
Tabs wanted the doggie-treat as well!
Dr S took a look at Bunny and said Bunny would not be needing treatment today. Somehow, ever since we moved, Bunny appeared to be much better. Maybe it’s the vibes in this place, or...

Further Clarification On Our Subsidy Scheme 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
A few rescuers have communicated with me over this subsidy-only scheme that we implemented with immediate effect on 5th January. I will not repeat whatever I had written in http://myanimalcare.org/2012/01/05/only-subsid y-scheme-for-spay-neuter/ as that should be self-explanatory.
But I wish to clarify that we have no more panel vets now for spay-neuter, medical treatment or vaccinations, so you don’t have to contact me to make appointments to get our previous rescue rates (which we us...

Sigh…another Fraud Attempt? 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
A friend just alerted me to the fact that she overheard someone saying she will be applying for our funds to spay her dog, but it’s not a rescued dog and it’s actually a pet. The someone said she will lie to say it’s a rescued animal just to get our funds.
I rest my case, folks.
I’m GLAD we have stopped doing full sponsorship (even for sob-story cases) and we only have a subsidy scheme now.
I do not have adequate resources to investigate the background of every case, on w...

Escape Attempt At 2am 6th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I was so exhausted with all the unpacking, I fell asleep with the cats and was awakened a few hours later by a noise.
Checked and it was nothing. All the cats were safe.
Cleo then came asking for a snack. Their eating timings have gone a little haywire, what with all the adjustment to the new place, so Cleo must be hungry.
I brought out food for her, and everyone else also came except Indy, who was still fast asleep.
As I was washing up after the meal, suddenly, I found Cleo on top of the ledge ...

Our Second Day In Our New Home 5th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, ever since three readers commented that a cat might get hurt on the new vertical rods I just had installed on the sidegate, I was really freaked out. We went out for dinner, and I rushed back to check that no cat has hurt itself on the gate. I barely slept all night.
I had thought of that possibility, but the rods are SO high, and there is no foothole from the first horizontal bar where a cat could propel herself up. The cat would only be able to hang onto the horizontal bar with her ...

Only Subsidy Scheme For Spay-Neuter 5th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Dear all,
As of today, 5th January 2012, we have no more panel vets for spay-neuter.
All rescuers who need financial help are entitled to apply for our subsidy scheme, and here’s a bit of good news, we’ve increased the male cat subsidy to RM80. The rest remains.
Please see this: http://myanimalcare.org/subsidy/
Reasons for this change:
1. Recent bad experience with a person who tried to use an elderly (unemployed) person’s name to apply for our fully sponsored spay-neuter at...

A Female Cat Spayed And A Rescued Shih Tzu Neutered 5th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, Mrs Lim sent a female cat from her neighbourhood, to be spayed and a rescued male Shih Tzu to be neutered at our panel vets. Both are fully sponsored from our funds.
The cat.
This Shih Tzu was found abandoned at the roadside. Mrs Lim picked him up, now he is neutered, and he will be sent for MDDB’s adoption drive (according to Mrs Lim).
These two cases will be the last of our fully sponsored spay-neuter cases. As of today, we will only offer our subsidy scheme for all spay...

Pak Din Needs Homes For His Dogs And Puppies 5th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Chew has been the contact person between Pak Din and us since his plight was highlighted to us. He is the one who ferries our dogfood contributions to Pak Din, and in short, Chew helps Pak Din a lot.
A few days ago, Chew told me Pak Din’s puppies were ill again, and it’s suspected poisoning (again). I offered our medical subsidy for their treatment.
For those who new to this blog, Pak Din is a faded musician, now elderly, without a job or a house. He lives in a make-shift shack in Go...

From Adeline:
Attached herewith are photos of puppies that just rescue by Ah Fatt. Abandoned Maltese Mix Poodle, For Adoption (Lee’s) 4th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Lee shared this:
Dear Dr. Chan,
Apparently there is another case of abandoned pet and we would like to seek your help to publish it on your blog.
I am writing on behalf of a facebook friend named Leann, who found this cutie dog roaming around the street and almost hit by a car.
Leann is so kind to take this cutie back to her house and sent for grooming, did tick treatments, etc. She also has been trying her best to locate the owner by printing flyers and asked around, unfortunately no ...
