Panda & Poppy, Two Female Dogs Spayed (Joanne Lim’s) 12th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Joanne Lim recently brought two female dogs to be spayed. We have subsidised RM240 for the two procedures, which is a full sponsorship because that is the rescue rate at this particular clinic.
Our maximum subsidy rate for female dogs is RM120.
Poppy and Panda are stray dogs at a factory area in Klang.

Poppy’s medical treatment/surgery to repair her broken leg was also partially subsidised from our funds.

Pak Din Has A New Dwelling Place (fingers Crossed) 12th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
We’ve been keeping up with Chew on how we could help Pak Din. Many thanks to everyone who has written in to offer suggestions and help. On the pipeline will be the setting up of a joint account (Chew and a friend) as a good samaritan has offered to raise funds for Pak Din’s needs. AnimalCare cannot do this per se as our help is only extended to the animals and we will help Pak Din with the medical bills and food for his animals. So, this good samaritan asked if I could get someone to...

Cat-Grille Installed 12th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
My new-improved cat-grilled was installed yesterday! Now, we no longer have to close the door…
I had this designed BEFORE the Pole escapades started. I know it’s not Pole-proofed, but it’s others-proofed. Also, the function of this cat-grille eventually is just to keep Cow & Bunny out of the rest of the house. The grille is only 4 feet high. It is like a child-proof gate.
Cleo didn’t seem interested in the new grille or the scenery outside.
I guess that’s ...

Dogfood For 20 Abandoned Dogs In North Port (Mr Low’s) 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Mr Low feeds about 20 abandoned dogs on a barren piece of land in North Port. The piece of land is so barren, there is no vegetation on it. These 20 odd dogs are suspected to have been abandoned.
We have been helping Mr Low with dogfood donation since last year. Whenever we get dogfood samples from the events that we participate in, these supplies have also been given to Mr Low. Previously, Mr Low only fed them bread.
Winnie is Mr Low’s daughter, and they have adopted two dogs from this pl...

Sunshiny News On Sunshine! 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Here’s happy news and happier photos to cheer everyone up:
Hi Kah Yein,
We took Sunshine to see the vet on Mon for a review and also to Dr Susanna’s for acupuncture. As with previous experience, Sunshine was all excited and rather restless in the car so we had planned that my husband take a day off work to help with taking her out.
I’m sorry I totally forgot to take any photos at these two venues as I was in such a detailed discussion and info session with the vet that I forgo...

Indy’s Condition – A Repeat, Again 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I got back from work today and rushed Indy and Tabs to the vet’s.
Indy has been sleeping for the past few days, hardly moving. The only consolation is that he still eats heartily, but only when I bring food for him. Yesterday, I brought him out to the grass and noticed he was limping again. For me, the symptoms and the expression on his face is EXACTLY the same as his previous mysterious condition which landed him (and me!) in hospital. X-Rays and ultra-sound was done and there was no con...

Mother-Cat And Kitten In Need Of Fosterer/adopter (Thong’s) 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Cathy Thong’s brother found a mother-cat with a newborn kitten yesterday. The mother-and-baby need a fosterer urgently. It would not be very difficult looking after them as the mother is feeding the baby. The fosterer/adopter would only need to buy KITTEN food for the mother (kitten food is more nutritious) so that she has enough milk for the baby and enough nutrition for herself. The potential fosterer/adopter can apply for a subsidy from us when it’s time to get the mother-cat spay...

Please Vote For Us In The Sunsuper Dreams! 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/01/10/animalcar e-is-on-sunsuper-dreams-please-vote/
Dear Friends,
James Blackwell, who is currently residing in Australia, has very graciously nominated us for the Sunsuper Dream prize, which is AUD10,000 this round because of a special bonus.
If we win the prize, we would be able to help so many more stray animals and their rescuers and caregivers. Since we work on a subsidy scheme with no panel vets, our help reaches out to the whole of Malaysia as anyone ca...

Pole Is Happy In Condo And Other News 11th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
This morning, when I opened the backdoor, Pole was looking quite happy in her condo. I had prepared myself for the worst, ie. she had figured out a way to open the latch and has escaped again! But no, my preparation for the worst possible scenario was unfounded…phew!
She actually looked pretty happy in it.
Everyone had breakfast around the condo, and Pole had hers inside (an honoured privilege!).
Then, when Tabs went near the condo to nose around, poor little Tabs got hissed at by Pole (Do...

Two Proud Owners, Pole And Tabs 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Today, Pole is the proud owner of a new condominium.
House-warming the ground floor first.
Third floor.
I’ve given Pole Tabs’ litter-box as it is smaller than the rest of my litter-boxes and it fits right in.
Pole also has a brand new matching green water bowl fixed to the bars so that it won’t topple over.
The 2nd floor is nice too.
Pole has tried all the levels and she seems happy with it.
Many thanks to Cathy for going all the way to Puchong to get it for me.
As...

Pole STILL In Cage At 12.48pm 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I’m almost going to freak out already, worrying if Pole made another escape attempt from the cage, but phew! She did not not.
While teaching, I did worry. What if something unexpected happened? Like maybe, someone left the sidegate open, and Cow leads everyone out, and they were now marching down the road, in single file, all seven of them, trying to find the way back to the old neighbourhood. When that vision appeared in my mind, I freaked out.
A friend told me when he was a child, he w...

I’m…dreaming Of A….big Cage? 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Sung to the tune of White Christmas:
I’m dreaming of a big cage…
The one that’ll keep Pole safe.
Where there’s space to stretch,
And platforms to jump on,
To keep her away from the rooftops…
Sorry folks, I’ve gone slightly cuckoo, so please excuse the extremely lame lyrics up there….
Yups, this is my dream…
Waiting for the 3-tiered cage and hope that’ll solve my problems once and for all.
Also, I managed to plead for the contractor to come ...

Possible Trouble? 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I hope not!
Guess who is visiting?
Huge and formidable, isn’t he?
He has what I would call the “classic” elderly tomcat look.
Well, hello Mr Cat. Glad to meet your acquaintance. We just moved into your neighbourhood.
Er…I hope you’re too big to come in through the gutter, Mr Cat. Please don’t, ‘coz we have seven cats here and you’re much bigger than all of them. Why, you’re even bigger than our dog, Bobby.
We mean no harm or disr...

The Nightmare Begins Again…at The Break Of Dawn (but Only For 10 Mins!) 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Pole escaped again…
We thought we had it all figured out?
No, Pole is always one step ahead. And she’s smart and devious, too.
This morning, everyone had breakfast and Pole had hers in the cage. After that, I cleaned her litter-box and let her out to stretch.
Last night, when I let her out, she went to the sidegate and looked at the gap and the gate at what we thought was her escape route, or rather, what she wanted us to think.
But we were all fooled.
That was not her escape route.

The Power Of Thoughts 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I thought (!) these came most appropriately in light of my experience today. I hope you find them useful too.
We are what our thoughts have made us; so take care about what you think. Words are secondary. Thoughts live; they travel far.
– Swami Vivekananda
See things as you would have them be instead of as they are.
- Robert Collier
This brings to mind something I’ve learnt in life which has got me through many adversities – Prepare for the worst but work for the best. I re...

Supper At Bunny’s Place 10th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
The cats got up after their evening siesta and since I’m still awake marking papers and doing the laundry, and since I’ve just cooked a batch of food for tomorrow, why not give everyone a supper treat in celebration of Pole’s return?
Chicken and some other minced meats given by a friend, carrot, celery, hairy cucumber, a bit of sweet potato and pumpkin. An honest-to-goodness home-cooked meal.
It took some “rehab” to get the clan back to eating home-cooked again ...
