Indy Goes To The Vet’s
18th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

My vet said he had contacted a clinic which has the toxoplasmosis test kit and I could send Indy to him to get blood and then send the blood over to the clinic for the test. That way, Indy would not have to endure the stress of travelling too far in the car. So, the appointment was set for today, afternoon. However, we tried twice, but Indy was just too stressed out to allow the blood to be taken. The blood had to be drawn from the jugular vein, which is at the neck, and this was too traumatic ...

Tales We’d Like To Hear – CNRM-Ers Going Strong
18th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

Many months ago, XY Soo wrote to me about wanting to do something for the street animals. We got talking and of course, I shared with him about CNRM and how I went about starting AnimalCare. I offered XY Soo our medical sponsorship/subsidy should he wish to start doing CNRM at his place, but at the same time, I also encouraged him to just use our model and start his own small group (just like us). Now, many months down the road, he has something going already. Read about it: Hi Dr. Chan, It has ...

Subsidy For Terry, Rescued Dog With Gum Problem (Jennifer SL Leong’s)
18th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

From Jennifer in December 2011: Terry was spotted in SS3 a few days before I took him over on 30 September 2011.  A student took him in after witnessing him being chased away by the neighbourhood people.  The student’s mother did not allow her to keep and they also have an existing dog. She posted for help for a few days and no one came to her rescue until I saw her comment on Facebook that she will release the dog to the street again.  Immediately, we make contacts and arranged to pic...

A Typical After-Dinner Sojourn
17th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

This is a typical scene you’d see after dinner every night…leading the way to the Stargate would be Cleo, followed by Bunny and Cow.  Pole had been REALLY well-behaved all afternoon. I let her out after I came back from work until dinnertime. She made no attempts to escape. Not even once. Why, she just napped on the catshelf, very contentedly. I wonder if I may assume that she won’t be making another escape attempt?  Guess not. The contractor did not come again…. ...

Sunshine’s Rehab
17th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

From my friend who is fostering Sunshine: I managed to get a urine sample from Sunshine last Wed and quickly rushed it to the clinic as I’ve been concerned over her peeing pattern. They found that her pee was very alkaline with PH 9 and Specific Gravity 1.018 and suggested that I bring her in for a blood test. So I dashed back home and packed Sunshine into the car and back to the clinic. Her blood test results came back pretty good so we know that her organs are not affected by wha...

We got talking about trapping, spaying-neutering and Liew was going to borrow one of our traps. He finally decided he’d purchase one and I referred him to our supplier. With that trap, Liew managed to catch the entire family! He’s now thinking of becoming a longer-term rescuer, and doing it in his housing est...

Cleo, Cleo, Quite Contrary, How Does Your Garden Grow?
17th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

Remember this little poem? Mary, Mary, quite contrary, How does your garden grow? With silver bells and cockle shells, And pretty maids all in a row.  Lookie here…  A little cutesy kitty amongst the crossandras.  Cleo, Cleo, quite contrary, how does your garden grow?  We had these pebbles to replace the grass as this patch is just too soggy.  Double purpose here – to address the sogginess and to prevent any cat (namely, Pole) from getting a firm foothold to jump!  Tabs l...

Yianni, The Nile Crocodile Signals: I’m Still Alive.
15th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

Here’s a very touching story about how an abandoned and neglected crocodile now leads a happier life because a human understood its message to her: http://www.care2.com/causes/nile-crocodile-si gnals-rescuer-im-still-alive.html It’s so true that we sometimes judge an animal by its looks. Here’s an excerpt: Humans have a misconception about the psyche of crocs and imbue them with villainous qualities because of their design as powerful predators.  But the truth is that croco...

A Probable “Poleway” To Freedom (no Escape Today)
15th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

I figured this was probably how Pole escaped yesterday. She has “demonstrated” it to me twice so far.  From the wooden shelf, she gets onto the clothes line.  She has no problems at all walking on the clothes line. From the clothes lines, I figured she can hop onto the water pipe and from there, onto the gutter and thereon, onto the roof….to freedom! But it would involved some acrobatic contortion on her part which I don’t doubt she has.  She tries but gives up. Or...

Sharing The Sunsuper Dreams Prize (if We Win!)
14th Jan 2012, by AnimalCare

When James Blackwell first nominated us for the Sunsuper Dreams Prize, my first thought was that IF we win, we will share part of the prize money with other no-kill animal NGOs. We all know how much we need this money to carry on our work. But I had to read the terms and conditions first to ascertain if that is allowed and also to seek the consent of James Blackwell since this is his dream and he was the one who nominated us. James says “ok” and he’s glad we’d like to sha...
