Blackey Admitted For Treatment In Alor Setar (Sha’s) 1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Sha has decided to let Blackey be treated in Alor Setar as she had found a vet who is willing to do it.
From Sha:
Dear Dr Chan and other readers,
Thanks for sharing, yes I know now I’m not alone.
I just came back from the vet. Yes, Connie is right. The vet (Dr. Ravi-Animal Centre & Surgery) is located in Pekan Pumpong, Alor Setar about 50 minutes’ drive from home. After careful thought and consideration, I have decided to send her to Alor Star. Thanks to all of you for the help ...

A Hands-On Sporo Sharing (re-Publish) 1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
I published these on 11th Nov 2011. In view of the few sporo cases we are helping and the lack of information about this disease and more importantly, the lack of experiential sharing, I feel a need to republish this priceless sharing again:
http://myanimalcare.org/2011/11/11/a-sporo- experience-to-share-must-read/
Dear Dr. Chan,
First and foremost kudos to all the wonderful work you do. I am a keen follower of your blog. I find it informative and useful. My hubby and I had been spaying and ne...

Kedah Or Puchong For Blackey? – Updates From Sha 1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Sha informed me yesterday that she has finally found a vet in Kedah who is willing to treat Blackey. This vet will charge RM600 for boarding (per month) and this is excluding medication. We all know sporo treatment is expensive simply because of the long duration.
Sha is in a dilemma because she cannot decide whether to keep Blackey in Kedah under this vet or to bring Blackey down here to Puchong for the treatment.
So, she’s asking for opinions.
My opinion would be – use your gut fee...

No News….is No News (Sunsuper Dreams) 1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare
Thank you, everyone, for writing and sending text messages to ask if we’ve got the results.
Well, no, we have not received anything.
I think the procedure is such that the organisers will inform James Blackwell, who in turn, will inform us.
It says, “three working days” for the above to happen and if the organisers fail to contact James, the prize will be awarded to the dream with the second highest no of votes, which in this case, is the Kenyan Dream!
So, let’s just wait...

The Pinscher Settles Down 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
It’s almost 11pm now. The pinscher has completely settled in now.
And she’s as tame as a little lamb. Not snappy anymore.
Like a lamb now. Likes to sit on laps.
I put Tabs’ old collar on her. Even adjusted to the minimum, it’s too big for her! But she needs a collar so that I can take her for a walk in the garden. Minpins are extremely energetic dogs and need to move about. Indeed, she does. She’s extremely curious and walks to be on the move all ...

Gorilla To The Rescue? 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
My cats were quite freaked out and a bit concerned about this new animal which has entered our house.
What on earth is it, they asked.
It can’t be a dog ‘coz it doesn’t look anything like Bobby….
And it’s smaller than Tabs…yet it sure doesn’t smell like a cat….
Hmm….
Take a look, they said.
It’s the cili padi minpin.
So while we were all abuzz trying to catch the minpin, the cats watched.
Finally, we got her and managed to force her ...

Lost Miniature Pinscher In SS18/5 – Is It Your Dog? 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
The guards in my area alerted me to a lost miniature pinscher found wandering on Jalan SS18/5. According to them, the poor dog was running up and down the road, and appeared to be lost.
They caught it and put it into a big box, but they cannot foster the dog as it is against their regulations to keep an animal in their guardhouse. They did not want to let the dog go again for fear that being so small, it would be hit by a moving vehicle.
When we saw the dog, it was trembling in fear, but it appe...

One Female Cat, Marie, Spayed (Inez Sue’s) 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
We have subsidised RM100 for the spaying of one of Inez Sue’s cats, Marie.
From Inez:
My name is Inez Sue, from Sunway.
I’m currently studying at The One Academy and working part time at Starbucks.
I have some questions regarding the subsidy on spay/neuter for cats.
Last year a stray cat that lives around my apartment (Lagoon Perdana Apartment, Sunway) gave birth to 3 adorable kittens (DOB 16th July 2011).
The mother cat frequently comes to our unit meowing for food, and we often ...

A Tale From A Fishing Boat 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
From a forwarded email:
The Best Day Of Fishing Ever!
Some fishing stories are a little hard to believe, but this guy has pictures to prove his story…
I’ve heard of salmon jumping into boats, but never anything quite like this…
Tom Satre told the Sitka Gazette that he was out with a charter group on his 62-foot fishing vessel when four juvenile black-tailed deer swam directly toward his boat.
“Once the deer reached the boat, the four began to circle the boat, looking ...

When We Bring An Animal To The Clinic, Please Do So Wisely 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
I am compelled to write this over a recent case, if only for the information and attention of new rescuers when they bring their animals to the clinic for treatment.
Please be informed and be aware that clinics and hospitals (humans’ and animals’) are some of the least hygienic places to be at. If I go to a human clinic and there are people coughing or sneezing, and if I am weak, it’s very likely I would contract the disease too. Can I then blame the clinic for causing me to be...

Running The Last Laps (Sunsuper Dreams) 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
It is now 6.50am and we are currently leading by 925 votes. Is that a comfortable lead? Well, actually no. We’ve seen how a certain contender could put in votes by the hundreds in several hours, so this certainly isn’t a comfortable lead.
We’re running the last few laps now, so as in a sporting event, let’s give it all we’ve got.
If you have anyone at all who has not voted and may wish to support us, please forward the link to him/her.
Please vote only once.

On The Homefront 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
And what has been happening at home?
Tabby Inc. share a chair.
So cute, right?
On guard duty.
Duty shift.
Senior guard uses toilet.
A bit of disturbing news, though, Cow has begun spraying in Bunny’s Room and I’m trying very hard to stop it. Sigh, wish me luck! Bunny hasn’t started spraying yet, but if I cannot get it under control, Bunny will. Was so happy in the first 3 weeks when there was no spraying nonsense at all.
The quick white Pole jumps over the cat-gril...

14 More Hours To Final Countdown (Sunsuper Dreams) 31st Jan 2012, by AnimalCare
Dear Friends,
It is now 12.00am, 31st January.
The Sunsuper Dreams Contest will end at 3pm (M’sian time) today. We are now, thank heavens, leading by 1079 votes.
The last few days of this contest has been a roller-coaster ride for us. Those who have followed our progress knows what it has been like. Suffice to say that this contest has reminded me what our world is like – full of imperfections and full of tests, but also full of hope and cheer, if we make it so for ourselves.
What ou...
