Be Very Vigilant And Choosy When Doing Adoptions – A Sharing
3rd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

A sharing from Koo: Hi Dr Chan, Usually, I don’t like to forward or share stories of animal abuse/torture/killings because there is no moral or educational value to do so. But I saw your comment about underground dog meat restaurants in Puchong and it got me thinking how they get their dogs which I’m sure have to be disease-free to be edible. Could it be that some rescuers may be inadvertently supplying lost and healthy dogs to fake caregivers out there who somehow managed to get...

The First RM300 For Blackey (Sha’s)
3rd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

We have just transferred the first RM300 (from Sau Yee and Alida Mahyuddin) to Sha (Wan Rozima) to start Blackey off on her sporo treatment in Kedah. We are confident the vet in Kedah will do all he can to help Blackey heal. Sporotrichosis is a treatable disease and does not have to be a death sentence unless it is in a very, very bad or late stage where the body cannot heal anymore and medication cannot help. Even then, we can still try. We are happy Sha has decided to get Blackey treated in Ke...

Help Stop The Illegal Dog Meat Trade In Thailand (a Message From Soi Dog)
2nd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, I published a news report of a crackdown on illegal dog and goat meat trade in Australia. On the home front, I hear there are underground dog meat restaurants in Puchong, too. Let’s take a look at the efforts made by Soi Dog to stop the illegal dog meat trade in Thailand and learn from them. Perhaps one of our local groups can take this up here. From Soi Dog: Please Help Save Dogs Like These! An Update On The Campaign To End The Dog Meat Trade… I am writing you today to ...

And Just How Blind Or How Deaf Is Bobby?
2nd Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

For those of you who have been following this blog, I guess you know all about Bobby. His story and everything he has done for the numerous cats I’ve fostered (and adopted) is just too long to sum up in one paragraph. Bobby is now 15 years and 3 months old. But recently, you’d also read that two vets have confirmed that Bobby is now blind AND deaf. Well, I know he is pretty blind because bumping into the walls and the furniture is the norm of the day even in the old house (where he s...

Many proactive, integrative and holistic veterinarians have long recognized the short falls of many commercially available pet foods. Unfortunately, most widely available pet foods and even many of the brands conventional vets recommend do not con...

Ref: http://healthypets.mercola.com/sites/healthy pets/archive/2010/05/19/caution-bones-can-kill-you r-dog-find-out-which-ones-are-safe.aspx Excerpts (Dr Becker’s comments): The FDA doesn’t make clear whether their warning extends to all bones or just cooked bones, so I’ll assume for purposes of the information I’m about to give you they’re discussing only bones from food that has been cooked. Dangers of Cooked Bones The cooking process makes bones more brittle, increasing the ...

Minpin’s Owner Found!
1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

About an hour ago, a young man by the name of Li Siong called me and identified himself as the owner of the lost minpin. He had seen the poster I put up at the guardhouse this afternoon. I told him to bring some identification, like birthcert or photos. Li Siong arrived with his mother about half hour later. There was no birthcert as Sunshine (that’s her name…coincidental?) was a gift from someone who bred minpins. But Li Siong showed me photos in his handphone. When he called her na...

Indy Plays With Heidi (the Minpin)!
1st Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Would you believe it? Indy is bonding with Heidi, the minpin! Tabs wants to play, too. And the rest of the clan? They are just watching…  I decided Heidi was too lonely in the patio by herself (inside the cage), so I thought I’d try introducing her to Bunny’s Place (and kept my fingers crossed that my cats won’t run helter-skelter or get too stressed).  That’s Tabs watching the “new animal” .  Indy looks interested.  So does Heidi!  Friends? ...
