Managing Zurik’s Meals

I would say that yesterday was a pretty good day for us. Although Zurik did not eat on his own, he also did not spit out his food. I was able to forcefeed him raw chicken about 5 times in 3-hour intervals.
I even went out to buy the chicken thigh for him, just for a change from the usual chicken fillet. He ate the tiny pieces of raw chicken meat without struggle.
He spent a lot of time on his table, taking in some healing sunshine.

Managing Zurik

Whether Zurik’s beginning jaundice is due to hepatic lipidosis or not, we are not absolutely sure, but the fact remains that he hasn’t had much appetite for the past week.
It is also a fact that he needs to eat. Whether it is hepatic lipidosis or not, eating definitely helps. His loss of protein is rapid and very significant, based on the amount of fluids in the abdomen, so eating would also help replenish this loss.
The bottom line is, he has to eat.

Zurik’s Check-Up

The past few days have not been good for Zurik. Ever since the 375ml of fluids was aspirated from his abdominal cavity last Friday, he seemed to have lost his appetite. He only had one good day, which was on Tuesday, where he was able to eat. On other days, I had to force-feed him as gently as possible. Firstly, he needed food with his medicines. Secondly, he definitely needs high protein as the fluid leakage is making him lose a lot of protein.

Pole’s Surprises!

It’s been a few pleasant surprises so far….
After about 3-4 hours after Pole was given her first dose of medication at the clinic, I saw her squatting and urinating! What a sight for sore eyes! Yes, there was definitely a stream of urine.
I hope this means the antibiotics is addressing the infection that caused the UTI and that is all and that there is other more serious underlying medical problems.
Then came the evening dose of medicine.

Pole To The Vet (UTI)

The hardest cats to feed medicine to are Pole and Cleo, so we’ve been very lucky that both of them very seldom required any medication.
But this morning, I noticed Pole squatting trying to urinate and nothing came out. This happened about 7 times in a 15 minute interval, so that was a cause for concern.
I suspect it would be some sort of urinary tract infection and I remember that such condition is to be treated as an emergency (in case there is any blockage).

Mr Zurik Defends His Territory

It’s been 3 days of worrying.
After the fluid extraction on Friday, Mr Zurik came back and appeared to be very happy. He even ate a lot on that day. I did a 220ml subcut for him and all was well on that day.
However, on the next day, he refused to eat. I only force-fed him a bit of food for the purpose of giving him his medication, and I waited patiently for him to eat on his own again. By noon, he still had no appetite, so I did another subcut for him. It takes 6 hours of the subcut...

Good News For All CNRM-Applicants!

As we have always emphasized, our Neutering and Vaccination Fund is only for those who practise CNRM (Care-Neuter-Rehome(or)Return&Manage). In short, if the animal is not rehomed, the applicant has to continue caring for the animals after they have been neutered, for the rest of their lives.
