Bobby’s Fun In The Sun
12th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ever since Dr Susanna said Bobby had lost a lot of muscle mass because he is not keen to move, we’ve decided to make him walk more each day. So, this evening, we took Bobby out to the front garden to let him walk.        It was quite amazing…to watch Bobby wobble initially, but quickly, we saw his gait improve and before you know it, he was walking so much better!  Tabs wanted to come out too…      She didn’t dare go beyond the patio...

Tabs’ 2nd Vaccination
12th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Last Friday, I brought Tabs for her 2nd vaccination.  A bit of complaining during the short car-ride.  I told the vet he said Tabs was “very alpha” but she doesn’t seem to be so in my household. The vet said Tabs IS alpha, but not aggressive. Aha…alpha in a good way? As in, very confident?  Yes, said the vet. Very confident. And what can be more confident than walking straight into your house and saying, “Excuse me, folks, I’ve chosen to stay with you, o...

Walking The Extra Mile On Nutrition For Cats (Szetoo Weiwen’s Sharing)
12th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Szetoo Weiwen was a first-time rescuer when she first wrote to me. She found 4 kittens (later named Bruce, Jet, Donnie and Jackie – all after martial arts exponents) abandoned in a box, and though she went back 3 nights, hoping to find the mum-cat, she ended up fostering all four of them. She took them to the vet’s, she learnt as much as she could through the internet, etc. http://myanimalcare.org/2011/07/20/a-young-re scuer-with-4-kittens/ She thought the kittens were ready for adop...

Our Interconnection And Holistic Healing
11th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Dr Susanna shared this: http://www.spaceandmotion.com/health/index.h tm Immediately, what caught my eye and attention (and agreement) would be these: 1. The interconnection of all things – humans, animals, plants and the earth itself. How many of us have forgotten and are ignorant of this. And as a result of this ignorance, we fail to help each other, or worse, we destroy each other through acts of self-centredness. 2. That our bodies have not changed biologically for millenniums. We are w...

2 Puppies Walk Into Hospital By Themselves!
11th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Tan, a reader, sent this heartwarming youtube (below). We hope hospitals everywhere will be THIS welcoming to patients, human or animal! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TXYD5FIjXxQ &feature=youtu.be It’s an “Aww….” video, so it’s a must-watch! Guaranteed to make you smile. It’s not about a climb-mt-everest task that only a few people can do, all it takes is a little kindness and some effort and having the right places that would take good care of animals (t...

It’s…..the Sunnies!!! (Rozita Halim’s)
11th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Emails that never fail to get me all happy and excited are those that come from friends (previously, strangers) who have adopted kittens from me, particularly, those who still keep in touch with me regularly with photo updates – the Sunnies, the Blueys and Teddy & Xiao Li. Sad to say, the earlier adopters are not contact-able anymore. They don’t respond to smses or emails.  I can only hope the cats are fine. That’s when we have no choice but to let go and pray for the best...

Orange one is Dewey (named after the library cat Dewey, I’m sure you know Dewey) 3. Let The Muppets Perform At The Oscars!
11th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Nope, I’m serious, and I haven’t gone my rocker. The Muppets stand for environmental protection (hence, animal protection as well) and I think they deserve to be given the honour of performing at the Oscars. How can the organisers break a 66-year old tradition just because the Muppets are….not human? So, if you’ve grown up with the Muppets, or simply, you believe in fairplay, please sign the petition below. The Muppets was one of the year’s most critically acclaime...

Karuna’s Medical Treatment
11th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/26/karuna-ha s-a-new-foster-home/ As you know, we could not get Karuna adopted, so an elderly Uncle is fostering her for us. Karuna was not our rescue, but we chose to take over because I could not risk her getting attacked by the wild dogs again at the temple. That was how she became our responsibility. A quick recap, Karuna was rescued by the temple caretaker when she was left “paralysed” after being attacked by a pack of wild dogs. She was in ...

Harry, Little Kitten For Adoption (Chen’s)
10th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

From Chen: Hi Kah Yein, I mentioned to you that I found an abandoned kitten on 6 Feb 2012. Here is the story and pictures. A small kitten was left in a box next to the pedestrian gate which is next to the apartment’s garbage dump. The first picture shows the message on the box. I believe that the person who left the kitten there wanted to help the kitten but did not know how or what to do, and was probably pressurized by family or house mates to just get rid of it. And so he/she did th...

The 3 Musketeers Are Doing Well
10th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

From the fosterer: Soon after Big white fell sick, it was Orange’s turn. He showed the same symptoms as Big white one, unable to lift their heads, dilated pupils and was limpy.  Vet advised me to give them glucose syrup every 2 hours. At midnight, both looked really sick and was hardly moving. I was so worried of loosing them. 1. Big whitey still sick, but a bit better than before. Orange one looked 100times better than last night (Thank God!) but Big white yet to recover fully. B...

Transitioning From Dry Kibble To Wetfood For Our Pets
10th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ever since the posts I put up about the benefits of wetfood (raw, homecooked or canned), some of the readers have written in with various feedback. Some have been successful and are seeing the immediate benefits. Some are struggling with their pets’ insistence on kibble. Some are on the verge of giving up! To those on the verge of giving up, I’d say, “Please don’t, if you believe in the benefits! Dr Lisa Pierson took 3 months. Dr Susanna took 3 YEARS with one of her most ...

Kit’s Gone To Rainbow Bridge (Shalyn’s)
10th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Another piece of sad news, received this morning, from Shalyn: Kit’s gone. She suddenly had problems breathing just around midnight, progressing from wheezing to gasping to barely breathing. At around 2.15am she just passed away. I wish I could have done better for her. Thanks for all your help and support and advise. I wish you had a chance to meet her. Kit had a way of getting to you with her feisty nature, and after only a week caring for Kit, I’m going to miss her. ~Sha-Lyn~ W...

Bobby’s Acupuncture And Caring For Him In His “golden Years”
10th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Today, Bobby had another session of acupuncture. I’m getting him “poked” every 2 weeks now, as maintenance for his old age. Dr Susanna has this package for long term, called “The Golden Years”. Indeed, these are golden years for Bobby now. I’ve been worried about his eyes because a brown discharge keeps flowing out every day. The vet has said it is nothing to worry about because Bobby is already blind. I can help by keeping the eyes lubricated so that it does ...
