20th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Last week, my friend, Leslie Guoh, texted to say a newly rescued puppy which her daughter had brought home, seemed very ill. The puppy was motionless, going down fast. She thought the puppy was going to die soon. I advised her to quickly send the puppy to my vet for treatment. We will provide a subsidy since it is a rescued animal. Leslie did, and today, the puppy is alright. Here is Leslie’s story: Dear Sis Hope you are in great health, from the kindness you bestowed on little pup. Her...

20th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/25/hambao-is -doing-well-grace-chows/ Hambao and Dehbao were two rescued dogs whose medical treatment we subsidised in 2011. Unfortunately, Dehbao did not make it. Hambao did, and upon recovery, was adopted. The adopter, Carman Hor (Hor Kah Mun) wrote to me on 8th February: Hi AnimalCare, I had adopted 2 street dogs recently. I hope i can get some medical subsidy from you as i’m just a student, their vaccine fees and all injection are quite burden my f...

Two Dogs Spayed-Neutered (Meiji’s)
20th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

We have sponsored the neutering of one male dog (RM30) and the spaying of one female dog (RM40), both brought down from Raub by Meiji to Klinik Kembiri. Both dogs were rescued from the roadside. The male dog was extremely emaciated initially but after a week of feeding, seemed healthy again. The procedures were done on Saturday and both dogs are doing well now. As Meiji could not send me the photographs, here’s the receipt: I have requested for photographs in future as it is needed for au...

From: Jennifer Govin govinjann@yahoo.com Message: I found a mother cat and her 8 kittens about 2 week ago. The smallest one is really weak and small ( about the size of a new born) while the rest are almost 4 weeks old. They have all been to the vet including the mother. A Couple’s Pride And Joy (a Sharing By Dr Wai Kar Men)
20th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

I’ll never pass of an opportunity to blog a good story. For me, “good” would be stories about adopting street or pound animals, coping with and managing them, or rescuing a street animal and giving it a better life.  And of course, there are many, many more stories that I consider “good”. Here’s a sharing by Dr Wai Kar Men, from down-under: The bigger dog is Ben. He’s 13 this year. We adopted him when he was 7. Sweetest dog in the world- loves cats, ki...

Cleo, The Escape Artist
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

I guess one by one, my cats are getting bored being confined in Bunny’s Place although they have a room and a whole back garden to play in. Just when I thought Cleo would not give any problems, she escaped just now! All it took was for me to open the door to get out and with lightning speedy, she squeezed out and went upstairs. Before we knew it, Cleo had gone out our bedroom window and onto the roof and was exploring the roof, but luckily still within sight. We called her and as expected,...

Nightmare On Street 5A – Indy Lost…and Found!
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

This was really serious and frightening…. Indy had gone out to the porch this evening and was sitting quietly at the porch in front of the little rock garden, just enjoying the evening air. Then it was dinner time, and I got him and Pole inside to eat. Right after dinner, the two of them jumped over the cat-grille and went out again. We thought they would just be at the porch, but we were wrong…. Pole as sitting at the porch, but not Indy. We went out to look for him and couldn’...

Switching From Cat-Sand To Cat Paper-Litter
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

My friend, Cathy, told me all about cat paper-litter sometime ago. But when I first moved here, I was told clumping cat-sand is better when training cats to use the litter-box, so I tried a clumping cat-sand (had too much dust) and finally, I found Ever Clean, which my brood took to instantly. It was already almost a miracle that my Cow-Bunny-Pole-Cleo gang was willing to use the litter-box with Ever Clean, so I stayed with it. But now, cat-sand poses a slight problem. No matter how high the lit...

Jennifer wrote to me several days ago, requesting a medical subsidy for Cody, a rescued puppy with a skin problem. We have offered our medical subsidy and will proceed to transfer the money as soon as we receive the receipt and form. Here is the story: Hi Dr. Chan, I’m Jenn and I have emailed you before (Faith the mix husky and 2 lost dog notice). I’ve attached you 3 photos of a puppy (I named him Cody) which appeared around my neighborhood 2 months ago. That time his size is small&#...

Tabitha Jane Spencer, A Vagabond At High Noon?
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Just when I’ve given Tabs a regal name, not only because she is cross-breed but also because she is very well-mannered (confident, but not aggressive, doesn’t fight with anyone, and is obedient) she decided she’d be happier to be vagabond! Yesterday, Indy was sulking till no end because he got told off many times for stalking poor Pole. Pole would be happily lounging on the sofa in the living room but the moment Indy spider-catted out, she’ll flee to the porch. Then, Indy...

Third Party Requests – Kindly Take Note
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

In the past, there have been readers sending in third party requests, ie. they hear of an S.O.S. posted on another website or facebook page and they send me the link to be publicised on this blog. While it all seems very genuine and sincere on the part of the requestor and also on my part, here’s the backlashes that I receive after the link or story has been publicised: 1. The person who posted the S.O.S writes to me to ask why I posted it without his/her consent and permission. “I p...

Cash Donations To Needy Rescuers – Please Bank In Directly
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

Dear Friends, We truly thank all of you very much for always responding in kind and cash whenever we highlight any rescuer in need. Very often, after I write about any rescuer, donations of food, cash and other useful items will pour in for these rescuers. Thank you so much for this. However, for us, we only have a Medical Fund, a Food Fund and a Disaster Relief Fund, so we can only accept cash donations to be used for such purposes (to be converted into paying medical bills, purchasing food and...

From Chen: Hi Kah Yein! Back to my normal schedule again after a week long break. Now I’ll concentrate on finding a home for Harry. For now, here is a later picture that I managed to capture when he was feeling sleepy. I’ll send more updates as I go along. He is a perfectly healthy little kitten – exuberant, playful with a great appetite for food and life. And he always, always uses the litter box and would careful ensure his poo is properly covered like a well-mannered kitty. ...

More Of Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar Gifts
19th Feb 2012, by AnimalCare

This morning, I brought 4 packs of Dr Lai Chong’s Canine Caviar puppyfood to PAWS.  The manager of PAWS conveys his thanks to Dr Lai. There are always surrendered puppies at PAWS each time I visit. It is sometimes so sad to listen to the surrender stories, how some people would surrender their longtime pets (who have served them well but are now old and sickly) or to hear of puppies dumped at the gate and the “dumper” scooting off without paying the surrender fee. When I hea...
