Methycobal For Indy
25th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

The vet told me yesterday that between Neurobion and Methycobal, the latter is more potent since it has B12. So, this evening, I went to check at the local pharmacy and the pharmacist also recommended Methycobal for nerve ailment. Methycobal is very much smaller in size compared with Neurobion, hence, much easier to feed. The pharmacist gave me a discount and it is only RM7.50 for 10 tablets. He said normally, for nerve repair, it is recommended to take for 2 months in humans, but for animals, ...

Indy Is Still A Bit Feverish
25th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

I camped with Indy last night, waking up many times to check on him. He slept through the night and seemed reasonably alright. He only licked a bit of food this morning, so I handfed him and he ended up eating a sizeable amount. It’s Natural Balance wetfood. He didn’t want homecooked today; maybe it’s not as tasty. Let them decide, Dr Susanna always says. They know what they need. Tabs is near.  Little by little, he ate from my hand.  Then, he went out for some sun, which ...

May Day!! (it’s A Cause For Celebration For Us…go Yellow!)
25th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

May will always be a special month for us. It was on 31st May 2009 that I started AnimalCare holding a cardboard box at the Subang Jaya Buddhist Association, telling the audience what our intention were and that we would try our best to help (hopefully!) 10 street animals per year. I’m not an ambitious person. I’m realistic. Despite the fact that we have far exceeded our target so far, I’m still being realistic – 10 animals per year and I’ll be happy enough. If we...

Medical Subsidy For Kucing (Kamaruzaman Ahmad’s)
24th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

A vet, Dr Dev from Kinrara Vets, called me yesterday regarding one of his cases. This gentleman is looking after a stray cat and the cat is in need of surgery to save its life. The gentleman is disabled and cannot afford to pay, so the vet was wondering if we would be able to help. I said we could, based on our subsidy policy. Here is a full report of the case from the vet: Dr Chan, This cat has come to me and the owner’s name is Kamaruzaman Ahmad, (IC provided). He is a disabled without a...

Indy’s Urine Test Results
24th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

The clinic’s number appeared on my phone, and it was the vet with Indy’s urine test results. Everything appears to be normal except that there is an elevated number of Leucocytes (white blood cells) in the urine. This indicates that there is probably an infection. However, the reading isn’t alarmingly high. The normal reading is 10, but Indy’s is 18. The last time when he was really sick, it was 36, so this is not as bad as last time, OR could it be just the beginning or ...

Indy Is Back From The Vet’s
24th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

So I called in for an appointment and the vet is fully booked today, but I can walk in and wait for a gap between appointments.  Tabs wondering why Indy is in this blue box.  Waiting at the vet’s. It was a LONG wait as the vet has a full day of appointments. Oh, by the way, Indy has put on weight since the last time he was sick. He was 4.5kg then. Now, he is 5.4kg. Initially the vet thought he was obese (from the way he was sitting down), but after examining him, he’s not. HeR...

This Is Almost Unbelievable
24th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

A most unusual and shocking case was revealed to me last night. A caregiver who constantly applies to our fund for subsidy had brought another stray cat to the vet for neutering. The caregiver thought the cat was female and told the vet so. This is not the regular vet but a trainee vet. The trainee vet proceeded with the surgery which was the normal OHE for female cats and could not find the uterus or ovaries. I don’t know how long it took before the trainee vet realised the cat was actual...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/04/22/what-went -wrong-for-the-7-puppies-and-their-mother/ I was informed last night that one puppy had passed on while being on drips at the clinic. Apparently, it is not parvovirus but distemper that had afflicted the entire family. The incubation period for distemper is known to be between 3-21 days but most websites put it as 7-21 days. The puppies are already 4 months old, according to the caregiver, and they had been breastfed by their mother while the wh...

Indy Is Limping…again
24th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, Indy was sleeping for a long time in the basket on my table, and it seemed a bit too long. When he woke up, he limped a little. I thought it was just a sprain, but after observing him a bit, it looks like the old problem has surfaced again. That December nightmare. The only thing I started giving him about 5 days ago was the stemtech. A friend of mine had just lost her cat due to pyelonephritis last week. Indy is a pyelonephritis suspect case, so I thought I should just give him the s...
