Indy’s Acupuncture Today
27th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Indy had his acupuncture treatment today…  After the needles went in, he was put in the carrier, as usual. He complained and tried to open the lock. I think he was already feeling better compared to the last two days when all he did was to sleep. Well, sleep is very healing; that’s when the body heals itself as much as it can.  Time’s up. The needles can come off now. Dr Susanna said Indy has a weak-qi and weak-blood problem, in Chinese medical terms. It is not anaemia, th...

New Claim Forms
26th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Today, we’ve had three cases where applicants filled up our forms wrongly again, claiming for 100% subsidy for medical treatment instead of the agreed 50%. In all three cases, this is the second time it has happened.Despite my repeated explanation that our subsidy is only 50%, applicants still fill up 100%. I don’t understand why. This makes our work very hard because every claim form is audited. In view of this, we have revised our forms. To all applicants – kindly download ou...

26th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

From Steve: Hi Dr Chan My Wife and I rescued these 4 pups from the compound of an electrical station, they were running under the fence into the street and in danger of getting hit by passing cars.  They are about 4 to 5 months old.  They are now fully vaccinated , dewormed and spayed/neutered.  They are trained to do their business on puppy pads (which they do very well) and they like to sleep in crates (with doors opened) lined with towels. My Wife and I are going to be moving back to the ...

Can We Neuter Our Way Out Of Killing?
26th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Huey shared this: http://www.nathanwinograd.com/?p=9022 I think it’s really, really good food for thought. The gist of it is that the author questions if neutering is THE best way to control overpopulation and he thinks it is NOT. He thinks it should start with having no-kill shelters. There must be no-kill shelters first, and then, there has to be neutering. The two must co-exist. I must say I totally and absolutely agree.  And that is why, as hard as it is sometimes (in difficult cases...

Indy Eats On His Own!
26th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Last night was, thankfully, uneventful, so Indy and I slept through the night. This morning, I awoke early as I had made a fresh batch of homecooked food late last night and I was going to blend it all this morning as it was too hot last night. It was sealed tightly in the pressure cooker, so no worries about bacteria contamination there. I got everything blended while everyone else watched from the grille. I dished out the food to the 6 of them plus Bobby, and was going to feed Indy. But he dec...

Spaying Subsidy For A Female Cat (Hew Sook Yean’s)
26th Apr 2012, by AnimalCare

Ever since implementing our subsidy scheme so that we can reach out to rescuers all over the country (we did away with panel vets), our former panel vets have been given our subsidy forms so that they can recommend needy rescuers to apply for our subsidy. One of our former panel vets have been recommending many rescuers to our fund, which is a good thing, especially when it is through recommendation of the vet. At least we know the vet thinks the rescuer needs the subsidy, ie. a first round of &...
