Baggy Is Unwell
22nd May 2012, by AnimalCare

It is 10pm now, and I’m worried about Baggy. This morning, she wasn’t interested in breakfast at all. But then, she has been a rather small eater all this while, except the few days after settling in where she ate a lot. After that, she reverted to her habit of eating very little. I did ask Mr Teh and he said after being spayed, Baggy ate very little every day. So I thought maybe that was all the food she needed. Similarly, Pole and Cleo (both girls) also eat very little. It’s ...

We Have A New Stock Of Tshirts!
21st May 2012, by AnimalCare

After our Wesak sales, I had to re-order our tshirts to replenish stock, and the new stock arrived today. The ones that sold the most at Wesak were our Yellows, the new Equation and the all-time favourite Faces (Black and White).  Tabitha Jane insisted on helping to check stock.  Or was it more of quality supervision?  There…all checked and labelled. Please do remember that Yellows are going for RM20 in the month of May as our anniversary sale item and the special offer expires on 31...

Since then, the book has been widely distributed and as of today, I only have 5 copies left! A synopsis of the book: Love Never Dies For every living being who comes into our lives, one thing is for certain – whether by voluntary separation or...

Educating For The Change Of Mindset
21st May 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/05/12/our-educa tion-fund/ We launched our Education Fund on 12th May 2012 and its purpose is to produce and provide free educational materials on kindness to animals to the general public. While there is the continuous need for shelters, sanctuaries and medical funds for the animals, there is also an equally important need for education, because it is through education that the mindset of people can be changed. This will in turn increase the population of peop...

Closure To The Multiple Claim Case
21st May 2012, by AnimalCare

Last week we encountered a case where a certain rescuer admitted to doing a multiple claim on her cases (from two other organisations and from us) but she had failed to disclose the multiple claims on the forms submitted to us. As explained in an earlier post, these multiple claims could have been avoided if all organisations insist on the original receipts and retain these receipts, which is our practice. This would prevent another claim to be made for the same cases. In our subsequent communic...

A Chat With A Former Breeder
20th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Remember I said I’d speak to a former breeder and find out things about “responsible breeding”? Well, I did, and here are some of the things he shared with me. He was a dog-breeder many years back, and responsible breeding, to him, would mean taking very good care of his dogs, especially the mother-dog. The mother must have enough rest time, and he had only bred a few litters in all those years. He also only sold his puppies to responsible owners after careful vetting. I asked ...

Now, Who Is Fighting?
20th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Talking about warring animals, I also have two in my home – Cow & Bunny, and no, they were not bred as fighting-cats, they are just extremely territorial and this seems to be the nature of cats, especially if we have many cats in a confined space. Most of the time, there is peace in the house, unless I am at work, then I don’t know what goes on behind my back, but there has been no major injuries in these two so far. But sometimes, when we introduce change into their space, we in...

An Article On Pitbulls And Reflections On Breeding Animals
20th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Mrs Wong shared this: http://news.discovery.com/animals/pit-bulls -dangerous-120515.html#mkcpgn=emnws1 THE GIST A Maryland court recently decided that pit bulls are “inherently dangerous.” Animal experts and advocates disagree with the ruling. The problem is complex, with some pit bulls bred specifically for fighting. In short, here’s what I feel: Humans have no business breeding dogs to fight. That is just downright mean. It all boils down to this: What makes some humans e...

Coping With Aging Pets
20th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Bobby will be 16 years old this October. That is pretty “senior” for a dog, so as with senior people, old age comes with all kinds of problems. Sometime last year, Bobby was really going down. He had lost his appetite and had become extremely scrawny. Home-cooked food changed that and turned him around, so that problem is taken care of for now. He also started acupuncture and from weekly, it became fortnightly, and now, it’s just one session per month as maintenance. Since he b...

Our Revised Multiple Fund Policy
19th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Each time some form of abuse or suspected abuse happens, it is a red alert for us to revamp the way we do things so as to prevent a repeat of such a case. As explained in the earlier post, we owe this to our donors and also to preserve the credibility of animal charity. The last time we did a major revamp was when a certain rescuer created a huge misunderstanding between a vet in USJ and us by removing a kitten that was being treated there (while the vet was not looking) and bringing it to to ou...

Sree says they have decided to keep the name “Yoshee”. What a happy beginning! Thank you, Sree and family! And we shall always remember it was Pn Rahah who alerted us and because of that, Yoshee is off the streets and now has a happy and loving forever home. Most importantly, she has escaped the danger of...
