Baggy Passes The First Hurdle – Eating On Her Own!
24th May 2012, by AnimalCare

I decided I’d try giving Baggy ID for a change of taste. My chicken stew may not be tasty enough to rekindle her taste buds. When Baggy heard me opening the can, she meowed….now, that’s a good reaction, I thought. So I dished a bit out with my finger and let her smell it. Not interested. Force-fed that bit…. Hmm…nice? Nice! And she licked the rest off my finger! And more….  Had started by handfeeding her, but she must have been very hungry because she wanted...

Karuna Goes For Walks! (updates From Uncle)
24th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/02/11/karunas-m edical-treatment/ We managed to speak with Uncle yesterday and the good news is that Karuna now goes for walks with Uncle every day! Looks like it had taken months for Karuna to perk up and now she must be feeling much better than she was before as she looks forward to the daily walks with Uncle. Uncle does not have a phone-camera so photographs are difficult to come by. Uncle is also an octogenarian, actually way past 80 years old, I think. Som...

Updates On Sean (our Distemper Survivor, From His Owner, Charlie)
24th May 2012, by AnimalCare

In our first year (2009), we did some rescue work, and one of our rescues was Sean. Sean was rescued from the Klang Dog Pound on the day he was due to be euthanised. He tested positive for distemper, but due to the benefit of youth, he only had a cough and some diarrhoea. He recovered quickly and was fostered by my mother for many months until he got too big and too strong and my mother could no longer handle him. Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2010/07/18/sean -up-for-adoption/ Charlie adopted Se...

Yoshee Is As Happy As A Lark In Her New Home
24th May 2012, by AnimalCare

Yoshee’s rehoming: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/05/19/yosh ee-with-her-new-family/ I met Sree yesterday, and she told me all about Yoshee. Yoshee has made herself totally at home in Aunty’s (Sree’s mother-in-law’s) house and has become Aunty’s personal bodyguard. Aunty is also very fond of Yoshee (who wouldn’t be?). Perhaps the happiest of all is Yoshee’s little brother (named Puppy), the 4-month old puppy who now has a big sister to play with. Both dog...

The 3am Feed For Baggy
24th May 2012, by AnimalCare

It’s strange how Cow did not wake me up today for feeds. Maybe they know Baggy is better already? But being the human (who doesn’t have the privilege of “knowing”), I woke up to check on Baggy and she seemed very much more alert now compared with yesterday. It’s 3am now and…. We have progressed to ONE teaspoon of food!  Taking an interest in what’s going on outside the room, not that there is anything going on at 3am in the wee hours of the morning, un...

And Baggy’s Temperature Is….
23rd May 2012, by AnimalCare

38.3 degrees! …which is normal!  She’s busy grooming herself now, which I hope is indicative of her feeling better?    Will continue the small 1/2 teaspoon feeds and water. The next hurdle is to eat all by herself…. Thank you, everyone, for all your good wishes.

Baggy Eats Very Small Amounts, But Force-Fed
23rd May 2012, by AnimalCare

From the time we came back from the clinic until now, Baggy has had 7 water-sipping sessions. It was at 3.00pm that I got a bit overly ambitious and gave her 6ml of water – she couldn’t take it; she vomited and had diarrhoea within 15 minutes. I contacted the vet and she said to try 3ml. So, after that, 3ml of water had been fine. I know I won’t be able to make that 150ml target at 3ml per session, but it’s still better than having her vomit and pass out everything.  I ...

Baby Mayo Is In Rainbow Bridge (from Bernice Chee)
23rd May 2012, by AnimalCare

This is sad and shocking, but it has already happened, so we ask for everyone’s sympathy and empathy. Please be restrained in your comments, if any. It helps also to remind ourselves that we too make mistakes and we do slip up once in a while. Baby Mayo had a good life, short but sweet and filled with lots of love. From Bernice: Hi Dr. Chan, It is with a very heavy heart and with tears still flowing for both myself and Don that we are informing you of Baby Mayo’s passing. The circums...

Cici Going In For Glaucoma Surgery Tomorrow Morning (Junaina’s)
23rd May 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/05/10/cicis-vis it-to-our-vet-annas/ Cici was adopted along with her entire family by Junaina (also known as Anna). However, Cici had a bulging eye, which our vet had identified as glaucoma that needed surgery sooner or later. Cici was only estimated to be 2 months old at that time (which was barely 2 weeks back). Junaina was told to monitor the condition of the eye and the moment it gets worse, to bring Cici in for an evaluation. At that time, Cici was perfect...

Baggy, Treated For Suspected Inflammation Of The Gut
23rd May 2012, by AnimalCare

I was up many times last night to give Baggy glucose water. This morning, I managed to feed her a teaspoon of boiled chicken and she did not vomit. However, she had watery diarrhoea shortly after that.  She went to the garden to poo, and it was watery diarrhoea.  At 9.45am, we were waiting outside the vet’s clinic. On an unrelated note, Baggy has some ulcers inside her ears. It could be due to ear mites or an infection of the ear. However, Baggy has always been on Revolution, but both...
