Yes, It’s Going To Be A Long, Long Night With Cow 6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Cow just tore off his e-collar.
I witnessed the whole thing. He scratched and simply tore the thing off.
Then he started licking his paw.
Sigh…it’s always doubly hard to manage Cow because he simply hates having anything foreign done to him.
Managed to put the collar back, but for how long?
If he tears it off again in the middle of the night and licks his paw, it is not going to get well and the chances of it getting infected would be higher.
But how do you tell a cow what h...

Cow Bites Off His Bandage…twice 6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Barely an hour after coming back, suddenly I saw spurts of blood outside the door of the carrier. Cow’s e-collar was intact but he had bitten off the bandage and the wound was bleeding a little. His e-collar was blood stained.
I tried to bandage it back, but he was too fierce and uncontrollable, so it was off to the clinic again.
At the clinic, the vet said if he bites it off again, we could just leave it. But for now, the vet bandaged it back, this time, more securely. Cow was put on a...

Cow’s Back Home! 6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Everyone seemed to know that Cow would be going in for something since last night. It must be the vibes.
Last night, Tiger accompanied Cow wherever he went.
He ain’t heavy, he’s my brother…
Everyone was especially protective of Cow, somehow.
Cow was his usual self.
You can see that bad nail there.
This afternoon, since Cow had to be fasted, everyone had no afternoon snack as well.
There was not much of a demand for food, surprisingly. I’m glad. Otherwise...

the park with towels and a bowl of milk. The person who abandoned them
obviously had no idea that...

Please Pray For Acel, Petknode Survivor (Maslinda Abd Talib’s) 6th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Acel (formerly Russell) is the Russian Blue rescued from Petknode on that fateful day many months ago. He was one of the three admitted at the clinic on that Sunday. Six were brought in, but only three admitted and they were in bad shape. All three went to Maslinda upon discharge. Callie, the one who was only skin and bones, passed on after several weeks, after a brave and courageous fight all the way. Ayap and Acel are still with Maslinda now, but Acel is unwell.
We are subsidising Acel’s...

When GREED Rears Its Ugly Head And CONSCIENCE Takes A Back Seat… 5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
In running AnimalCare, the hardest and most tiring (and often, annoying) part is having to deal with applicants who are not honest and forthright with us.
This is written in our policies:
Our subsidy assistance is open to individual NEEDY caregivers of street animals.
NEEDY = Those who have no means of raising funds on their own.
Our subsidy assistance is NOT open to recognised organisations.
And this:
Our maximum subsidy for MEDICAL TREATMENT:
50% of the total cost for treatment subject ...

Coping With Blindness In A Pet 5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Nurul’s story on how she coped with Fang has been most inspiring, and here, we share another similar experience from one of our readers:
Your posting on the cat Fang that suddenly became blind brought my attention to the attached file on side effects of baytril. My experiences with my cats I have noted that their medications have side effects on their behaviours and well beings.
I have a blind cat Olie which we found abandoned in a car park as a kitten; she was too tiny to go through any p...

Cow’s In-Grown Nail Or Something Else? 5th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Cow has been having this wound on his paw for sometime now. I took him to see the vet today and it is possibly an in-grown nail or something else which cannot be determined until he goes under sedation tomorrow. But it is infected already and he is currently on antibiotics.
The vet said the options are to cut open the wound, clean it up and push the nail back, or if it is badly infected, digit amputation might even be necessary. This means part of his toe might need to be amputated.
I hope it wo...

How To Remove Cat From Glue Trap 3rd Jul 2012, by AnimalCare

Found this on the internet. I thought it might be something useful to share as plenty of people still use glue traps and small animals don’t know any better to keep away from them.
How to save a cat from a glue trap:
1. Check whether the cat is breathing. In a dehydrated and restrained state from the glue, it is important to check carefully by going closer to its n...
