Collar Off…but Only For 20 Minutes 8th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
I wanted to let Cow have collar-off time this evening, so I took the collar off to see what he would do.
He licked the wound for a few seconds, and after I stopped him, he ran out and sat at the Clubhouse.
He just sat…with Indy.
Nurse Tabs was on standby, of course.
We all sat with Cow as I had to observe if he would lick his wounds.
Five minutes passed and so far, so good.
I’ll take charge of the e-collar.
I’m doing my job, don’t you worry. The e-collar...

How Now, Cow? 8th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Cow had been sleeping most of today. However, he really likes lying on the grass. Not that that’s his normal habit, he seems to want to lie on the grass for some reason. Maybe being closer to nature helps him to heal? Maybe it’s something we don’t know?
I’ve been checking on the wound and it “looks” good to me. Tomorrow, I will take him to the vet to have a proper check-up. Hopefully, he can be off the collar then. I took his collar off a few times today, espe...

Cow 3.0 8th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Today is Day 3 of ”Cow Management”.
Last night, I was glad (yet a little worried) when all Cow did was to sit and stare at the wall for hours.
He was in this position for at least 5 hours all night, not moving much. And I took the chance and did one more round of wound cleaning with Dermacyn and then applied Solcoseryl. He did not even flinch or bat an eyelid. He just stayed and let me do all the cleaning. While on the one hand I was “glad”, I was also worried why ther...

Jennifer SL Leong Re-Donates The Subsidy – Thanks To Her Cookie Sales! 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
We wish to thank Jennifer for re-donating into our fund to help more needy caregivers and their rescues.
When Jennifer approached us to help subsidise Terry’s heartworm treatment, she wanted to bake me some cookies as she said that was her passion. The cookies were “out of this world”, so I suggested that she baked to raise funds for her rescues. It would be a very honest and fruitful way of raising funds for a good cause: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/06/14/buy-coo kies-to-hel...

Adopting An Animal Could Save Your Life, Too 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Mrs Wong shared this:
Rescuing an animal that’s been abused, abandoned, or is just unwanted, is one of the most noble things a human being can do. In most cases, we think of pet adoption as a good thing to do because it saves an innocent animal from being put down unnecessarily.
Rarely do we ever stop to consider the plethora of ways that an adopted animal can make our lives better, as well. Yet there is plenty of scientific and anecdotal evidence that proves rescuing a pet can save human l...

Do They Have To Die? 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Edward Lee shared this link: http://www.theage.com.au/photogallery/world /deathrow-dogs-20120706-21lyu.html
It shows the portraits of death-row dogs in their final moments at a shelter in Taiwan, just before they were euthanised by lethal injection.
If you have a soft heart, I don’t think you can finish looking at all the photos as each one would tug at your heart-strings and I am sure you would ask, “Why?? Do they have to die??”
The only reason I looked is so that I know what...

The Cow Story Continues… 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
So, after all the excitement this afternoon, Cow slept for hours. Translated, it means peace for me.
By the time Baggy and I got back from the vet, Cow had just got up and I was glad to see the e-collar still intact while we were gone. I had half expected it to be out already.
Cow only wanted canned food so he got that. He kept wanting to sit on the grass, so I had to allow it, making sure the grassy patch was as dry as possible.
After half an hour, it was medicine time and there was some strugg...

Baggy’s Allergy 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Today has been a very busy day. Baggy has been having some hair loss spots around her neck for about a week. They look like a bite mark (just one dot) and there would be hair loss around it. Two days ago, I Frontlined everyone with Spot-On, and today, I noticed there was hair loss on the spot where I had applied the Frontline.
So, it was off to the vet’s for Baggy and me.
The vet checked the hair under the microscope and found just one dead mite. Baggy’s problem spots were examined u...

Caty And Her Best Friends In Her New Home! 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Caty was once a sickly cat at a shopping mall in i-City. Koo rescued her and brought her to the vet for treatment. One eye had to be enucleated and subsequently Caty had a persistent flu. Koo fostered her until near-recovery and by then, we had found her a home. DT had very graciously agreed to take Caty in.
Now, Caty is having a great time and even has a few best friends.
Take a look:
Caty with Freddy, one of her new best friends.
With Hercules and Sweet Pea, her two other best friends.

Dogfood Fundraising For Meiji’s 139 Dogs 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Meiji texted me today to say that she only has enough dogfood supply to last for another 20 days or so. She is currently looking after 139 dogs. There was a new female dog dumped at her sanctuary recently and the dog gave birth to a few puppies. Meiji has got some of the puppies adopted already.
Meiji single-handedly looks after all the dogs at her sanctuary in Raub. Her only income is from rubber-tapping and she leads a very frugal and austere life up on the hills, spending all her time looking...

Plan B For Cow’s Wound Healing 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Since iodine smarts and stings, and that is probably why Cow gets so angry whenever I apply the medication on his wound, I asked around and friends recommended Dermacyn, a super-oxidised solution for wound care: http://www.oculusis.com/mideast/is/dermacyn .php. Apparently, it heals wounds very quickly and is easy to use.
So, it’s off to the pharmacy to hunt for Dermacyn.
I found it at my regular pharmacy and the pharmacist recommended Solcoseryl as well.
Cow did not object as much when...

And There Is Also This Kind Of Fraud 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
This morning, a vet called me. Apparently, a Ms So-And-So had brought a cat to their clinic a few days ago for eye enucleation. Ms So-And-So also informed the clinic that she would be claiming a subsidy from us.
The vet called me to ask for Ms So-And-So’s contact number because when they called the number given by Ms So-And-So, it was someone else’s number. So, the clinic now has no way of contacting Ms So-And-So and the cat is still at the clinic, with the procedure done but the ...

How Do You Solve A Problem Like Cow? 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
There was the usual fussing about for Cow this morning, plus all the cleaning up. I figured since Cow hated to be caged, I might as well dismantle the cage.
After all the cleaning up (and Bobby is having diarrhoea again), I drove over to the clinic to get more povidone iodine for Cow’s wound. It is exposed now, and since bandaging is totally out of the question, I thought I should apply the iodine more frequently. The vet assistant suggested that I get the ointment instead of the solution ...

MDDB’s Milo Needs To Be Rehomed (from Wani Muthiah) 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
MDDB’s Wani Muthiah has requested for us to post this. Please help spread the word.
Milo the dog was found tied to an electrical pole in Segambut about a month ago.
The pint-sized dog’s front and back paws as well as his neck was secured tightly to the post and the dog was both frightened and in pain.
Luckily canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) highlighted Milo’s plight on its Facebook page after being informed by a member of the public and managed to get severa...

Being In A Cage Can Be “fashionable” Too….but Not For Cow! 7th Jul 2012, by AnimalCare
Cow settled in for the night (thank goodness!) and we were both able to get some rest.
However, he simply hates the cage, and the e-collar, of course.
Yesterday, after I freed him from the cage, Bunny and Indy took turns to sleep inside the cage. Somehow, when something is not compulsorily enforced upon you, it becomes interesting and even….”inviting”.
Cow wasn’t interested in breakfast this morning, though. He just wanted to get out of the room. Rather than stress the po...
