Spaying And Vaccination Subsidy For 1 Female Dog (Jane Wee Chui Yong’s)
8th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

We have subsidised RM120 for the spaying of Jingle, a street dog, and also RM20 for her vaccination. Jingle was brought in by Jane Wee Chui Yong. Here’s something about Jingle, written by Jane: After feeding Jingle for two weeks, I managed to gain her trust. One day, I opened my car door and asked her to come in. She hopped in. Then I drove to the vet. For a first-timer, she was calm and even enjoyed the scenery. We reached the vet and I asked her to follow me. She was so obedient, she fo...

ACTS From Batu Pahat Starts Its Own CNRM Subsidy Programme!!
7th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

Ahh…this is the best present for me today – ACTS of Batu Pahat, under the leadership of Angie Ng Chew Khui, has started a  CNRM subsidy programme, modeled after ours. Their procedures:   This is exactly what I had been hoping for since we started our programme three years ago – that other groups of people will start their own programmes in their respective towns. ACTS has its own panel vet in Batu Pahat now. That was how we started three years ago too – with 6 pan...

Looking For Pet-Taxi Contacts
7th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

A reader has written in asking if we could share contact details of taxi drivers who are willing to ferry rescued animals in their vehicles. If you know of any, please do share their contact details by leaving a comment on this post. Thank you! Dear Dr Chan, I’m sure many animal lovers are trying to implement TNRM for their community strays but since most of us are salary workers working during the weekdays, we are unable to transport the strays to the vet clinics for neutering/spaying dur...

Monitoring The Monitor Lizard
6th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

On Lizard Watch tonight, we are pleased and relieved to provide the following report:  This morning, we did a drain hole watch and spotted no reptilian snout popping up. The drain hole watch was repeated in the evening with the same result.  Water was also flushed down twice throughout the day, and the flow was reported to be smooth. We hope this means that the elusive reptile has already made its exit from our drain.  Brave little Baggy took it upon herself to monitor the second post this...

Reptilian Night Watch
5th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

We looked everywhere in the garden. There was no reptile in sight. All has been quiet at the Clubhouse as well.  Cleo is standing guard at this drain hole. Actually, we are watching the cats’ reaction to the drain hole; that would be the best indication of whether the reptile is anywhere near the drain holes. We cannot see inside, but the cats can sense its presence, as they had for the past few days.  Cow is keeping watch at the first post.  We’re not sure how to read the cats...

A Reptilian Visitor…in The Drain
5th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

For the past few nights, we saw Baggy and Cleo sniffing curiously at the two drain holes in the Clubhouse (the photo above was taken last night). We should have suspected something was inside, but it didn’t cross our minds until this morning when I was there with them, and I saw a longish grey-coloured snout popping out from under the drain hole cover. Then I remembered my husband saying he had spotted a huge iguana crossing the road 2 houses away a few days ago. Oh gosh, this must be the...

At The Student Leader Convention, Universiti Malaya
5th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

An Indian student body from Universiti Malaya invited us to open an awareness booth at their Student Leader Convention today. Bernice, Donovan and I were there today.  We met with the student delegates during their half hour break time. It appears that the idea of CNRM and even that of neutering animals as a means to control the stray animal population were all new to them. That was good – At least we’ve passed the message on to these student leaders and they will take the message...

Karuna Passes On To Rainbow Bridge
5th Aug 2012, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2011/12/26/karuna-ha s-a-new-foster-home/ On 7th July 2011, the temple caretaker found a dog severely attacked and badly bitten by a pack of wild dogs in that area. The dog was brought to our vet for treatment. We named her Karuna. Karuna was a very old dog (estimated to be at least 12 years old at that time). Karuna had also been previously spayed, so we suspect she used to be a pet. Being elderly, Karuna took her time to recover and upon recovery, my mother foster...
