Excess Funds To Be Channeled To Petfood Donation To Selected Shelters
17th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

As announced on 9th October 2019 in this blogpost : https://myanimalcare.org/2019/10/09/cnrm-wo rks-and-the-extras-will-be-treats-for-shelter-anim als/, there has been a significant decrease in the number of neutering claims since March this year. There are three reasons for this: (1)  We have been helping rescuers and feeders for ten years now, so many of the colonies have actually stabilised.  This will happen with feeders who practise CNRM which is caring, neutering, retu...

Indy Continues With The Pumpkin Treatment
17th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

Indy had a quarter teaspoon of steamed pumpkin with every meal yesterday and this morning, I found normal-looking, well-formed and firm stools at this spot in the sandpit. No blood. Still too early to celebrate…but am hopeful. Today is Day 4 since he went to the vet’s. Indy was put on antibiotics (Clavamox) and in order to replenish the flora in his gut, the vet said I could give him probiotics two hours after the antibiotics. I have been doing this. I’m waiting for the 7 days...

Ginger’s Persistent Whining
17th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

Ginger has been whining continuously for hours and this has been happening for many weeks now. There’s just so much we can do to distract him. He can whine for hours on end, walking back and forth at the patio or in the house. We finally figured out what he wants – he wants to go out. Whenever Heidi goes to the park, he gets very excited and rushes to Stargate2 to watch the entire event. Why does Heidi get to go out but not me?   Sometime last week, he escaped one night and...

Neutering Aid For 1 Cat In Shah Alam (Goh Kok Ho’s)
16th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

We have provided an aid of RM100 for the neutering of this cat. This kitten was one of the 3 kittens of my latest rescue. They were found abandoned or thrown out by the previous owner in a box at a nearby basketball court. My neighbor notified me when she heard loud kittens cries. I went to the location and found 3 kittens inside a box, seems like thrown out by previous owner. Currently I am fostering all 3 kittens until they are old enough to be spayed/neutered and hoping they can find a good ...

Pumpkin To The Rescue?
16th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

It’s a home remedy and it was at the back of my head for some time now. But I wanted to give the other options time to work, so I could only try one thing at a time.  The problem was, whatever I tried seemed to work for a few days and then, it would be back to square one again. Yesterday morning, there was still some blood-tinged loose stools. So, I decided to try this next option – steamed pumpkin. Bought a slice of organic pumpkin, steamed it until soft and added a little bit ...

Indy’s News
15th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

Indy dutifully ate his ID for the first 2-3 meals, but by evening, he didn’t want it anymore. There has been no vomiting or diarrhoea yesterday but this could be due to the anti-vomiting jab. We are not out of the woods yet. It’s too soon to tell. By last night, I had to add a tiny hint of his regular food to entice him to eat the ID. This morning, there was no problem giving him the liquid anti-protozoa medicine. I thought he might foam at the mouth but he didn’t and that was ...

Indy To The Vet’s (the Battle Of The Loose Stools)
14th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

It’s been a very stressful week for me.  Indy has been having chronic loose stools for more than a month now. We had already had him checked at the vet’s one month ago and was advised to put him on probiotics.  He was also dewormed twice during this period. But the loose stools continued and at the end there would be a tiny bit of blood. The thing is, sometimes his stools would firm up a bit (but still soft) and there would be no blood. So, that gave us hope. Then, it would...

The Pink Basket Saga Continues
9th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

Heidi: I might not be IN it, but it’s still mine.  Meanwhile, Ginger also has issues of his own. We thought that being the only male in here now (it’s just Ginger, Heidi and Tabs), he would stop spraying and marking territory? No such hope. He is still doing it and there’s nothing we can do to stop him. We think he is probably jealous of Heidi and Tabs’ special privileges. Heidi gets to go out for taiji to the park while Tabs gets to sleep on our bed. A few days ag...

CNRM Works! And The Extras Will Be Treats For Shelter Animals!
9th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

We are happy to note that there has been a slowdown in neutering claims since March this year. We contacted our previous applicants and were informed that their colonies have more or less stabilised. There has been no new animals entering their colonies or just the occasional one or two. CNRM works! It does, if it is done on a small and manageable scale. You get all the animals neutered in that small area and continue looking after them for life (if they are not rehomed). The neutered animals, i...

Tabs’ New Basket
9th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

Heidi still adopts the street cat mentality of “shifting nests”. So once a week or so, she will find a new place in the house. Last week, it was on the side table and she was there all week. Yesterday, she decided it was time to shift, and Heidi takes what Heidi wants. It doesn’t matter if it is someone else’s place. She decided to take Tabs’ basket in the kitchen so poor Tabs had to look for somewhere else. (Tabs doesn’t practise “shifting nests”....

Pole Seems Calmer
5th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare

It’s been 20 days since Pole was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism and we started her on the transdermal Methimazole cream. She seems calmer now. We don’t see the leg trembling anymore and she is less easily agitated. Goodnight, everyone! Her check-up is at the end of this month, along with Cleo. We do subcut for both of them twice a week too, to hopefully bring down their creatinine levels. We also hope that Pole’s elevated kidney and liver readings are due to her hyperthyroid c...
