An Alert From PETA (on Animal Testing)
27th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

We have always spoken up against animal testing as it is one of the most cruel industries on earth. What’s more, it is often unnecessary and unreliable too because it does not make sense to test our human products on animals. We are biologically different. With the advancement of science, there are already other methods of testing such as using cultured human tissue and mathematical modelling. This is an alert from PETA. Please do the needful. I have signed. Never underestimate the power o...

Friday News
26th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

Raven has been very well-behaved so far. She has settled in and seems to like her cage.  Cage = Home  We placed the feather toy in front of the door and Raven thought it was some kind of animal. She had a fun time “tricking” the animal into letting her out of the cage. Yay!! I got out!  It was Monge dinner for everyone, including Raven.  I gave her only the chicken because her stools were a little soft today.  Today, Cleo and Cow did not want to eat Monge. I don’t kn...

Does Anyone Want To Adopt Snow White?
26th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

I may need to find a home for Snow White. (Snow White is probably one of the back neighbour’s many cats.) Apparently, Snow White has been entering the home of a neighbour and causing him some inconvenience. This neighbour had successfully caught Snow White before and he plans to catch her again and take her far away. I’ve communicated with this neighbour to ask him to please hold on while I try my best to arrange for something a bit more “suitable” for Snow White. If my g...

The Ikarians, Another Community That Benefits From A Plant-Based Diet
26th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

We have heard about the Okinawans, now, it’s the Ikarians on a small little island in Greece: This article in the N.Y. Times about the superhealthy community on the little Greek island of Ikaria is enlightening. Ikarians are living much older than most other Westerners, and are healthy, active, purposeful and happy well into old age. What’s their secret? Is it diet, or exercise, or no smoking, or a little bit of red wine? Sure, it’s a bit of those things, but more importantly, it’s ...

Bosco’s Remains Laid To Rest
26th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

This morning, I wrote a long email to my community e-group. As suggested by a friend, Raven could be a lost kitten, so it’s only fair that I publish an alert to try and find her owner (if there is one). In my email, I also gently reminded the residents about our medical charity for animals and welcomed them to apply for it. I ended my email by mentioning Bosco’s case and appealing for everyone’s compassion to be more tolerant of the existence of community animals. I don’t...

Some Inside Clan Stories
26th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

It had been raining very heavily for the past few days. The inside clan have found ways to snuggle up to keep warm. This was so incredibly cute, I’m glad I managed to take a photo. (It’s COW and Tiger) My 7 cats are SO alpha, you’d almost never see them cuddle up together. Everyone wants his and her own space, and I’m talking about S-P-A-C-E here. Cleo has been vomiting her food quite a bit and it’s hairball. I can see the hair in her vomit. Well, this girl is diff...

We have subsidised RM300 for the spaying of two of Susan Bell’s female dogs from the construction site. RM200 is from our Medical Fund as per our policy (RM100 per animal) while the extra RM100 is from our reader, Maria O’Connell. If you are interested in adopting Ivory, Becky or any other dog (there are about 25-30 dogs in all), please c...

Bosco’s Ashes Return Home
25th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

James Kho’s assistant brought Bosco’s ashes back a few minutes ago. For some strange reason, I felt a sense of comfort and peace now that Bosco’s ashes are back home. Maybe this is one step closer to acceptance. Or maybe because I promised Bosco I would bring him home and I have done that now. When I am ready, I plan to intern his ashes in our garden, his home for 27 blissful and joyful days. And Bosco will then always be home and near me. Funerals, wakes and last rites are o...

A Relative Of The Bombay Cat?
25th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

When I first brought Raven to the vet’s, she said Raven looked very much like a Bombay Cat. But after checking, she said Raven is not because she has a small spot of white on her chest. The Bombay cat must be completely jet-black. But Raven has the typical Bombay Cat ears, though. Come to think of it, Vixey too was completely black except for a small spot of white on her chest. My part-time cleaner saw Raven the other day and she thought Raven looked very familiar. She said Raven may be on...

Home-Cooked Goodness But…
25th Oct 2012, by AnimalCare

Last night I decided to make another batch of home-cooked food but this time, no blending. I figured maybe, just maybe, my brood does not like the blended consistency. Cleo smelled the food and jumped onto the kitchen sill to watch me shred the chicken meat. Last night, Cleo had been vomiting out some food, so I thought I should give her some soup and shredded chicken instead. She ate it all up and there was no vomiting after that. This morning, I thought I’d warm up the food. Normally I o...
