The Loose Stools Came Back 29th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
As expected, the loose stools came back.
We came back from taiji and there it was – loose stools on Indy’s poop-spot.
It so happened too that Indy’s vet was online, so we discussed his case and I showed her the photo of his latest poop.
The vet suspects that there is already bacterial overgrowth in the gut. She says if the stools are still runny tomorrow, we should start on the Metronidazole already. This antibiotic is metabolised mostly by the liver, so I shouldn’t have ...

How’s Cowboy Bunny’s Eye? 29th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
I think there is a slight improvement in Bunny’s eye.
We only put the e-collar on during and after an eyedrop session because that’s when he tends to rub his eye. At other times, we don’t see him rubbing at all.
But it’s a huge problem applying the eyedrop. It’s not easy to hold Bunny’s head still. Very often, he jerks away just when the drop drops down and that would be a miss already. However, the vet did it so easily!
Although Bunny is 80% blind, he know ...

Of Cow Grass, Serai And Indy’s Poop 29th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
How hard is it to buy cow grass?
We could only grow cow grass in Bunny’s Garden because of the spraying by Cow, Bunny and Indy. Pearl grass died. Even with cow grass, there are many bald patches because of the spraying. So, actually, no grass can survive their spraying!
So I went to the nursery today to buy cow grass to patch up the bald patches and was told that it would have to be specially ordered. They don’t keep stock. I guess so…who would go BUY cow grass when you can ge...

“The Leg” 29th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
I couldn’t resist it…
Siapa punya kaki ni?
Siapa lagi?
It’s the Queen’s kaki.
And it’s not like the basket is too small to fit Cleo. Even Cow can curl up and fit into it. It’s all about showing off “the leg”!

Indy, It Has Been 24 Hours Now… 29th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
It’s been 24 hours…
The last loose stools was at 8.20am yesterday.
I couldn’t believe my eyes when I woke up this morning and scrutinised the entire length of the sandpit.
No loose stools.
Pinch me, please.
That was at 5.45am. And it was still dark. I waited until it was brighter and scrutinised every inch of the sandpit again.
No loose stools.
Really???
It’s been a nightmare for me for the last two months when I would see loose stools every time I approached the ...

The Raw Deal Report (after 1 Month) 28th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
I made the decision to convert all our cats to raw food on 27th September 2019. There is a lot of literature about the benefits of raw food for cats because cats are obligate carnivores. The literature says that converting your cat to a raw food diet is about the best thing you could do for your cat, nutrition-wise.
I had known about the benefits of raw food for a very long time now but was hesitant to do a full conversion for our cats because they are all geriatric and I thought it would be ver...

Who’s Afraid Of Fireworks? 28th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Whenever there are fireworks, it’s never good for the animals.
Bunny is not afraid of fireworks. With fireworks booming, he can still eat.
Indy is also not afraid of fireworks or thunderstorms. But Cleo is (that’s her hiding on the far right). But why is Cleo hiding there?
Because Cow took her basket.
Cow is very afraid of fireworks. He would be so scared that he won’t even eat.
Cleo: I’m not happy to be here.
Pole is terrified of fireworks so she is hiding unde...

Indy’s News 28th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
With Bunny “down” with his eye injury, Indy started targeting Cow instead. I have had to break up a few war-crying posturing episodes between the two. Cow did not start them; Indy did.
Then, just now, Indy chased Cleo all over the garden to the room.
Maybe he is just playing, or maybe he has too much energy and needs to let off some steam.
Today’s stool report: Discovered blood-tinged soft stool at 8.20am. I don’t know if this was passed during the night, early morning or...

Indy: It Is Probably Giardiasis 28th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Is there good news today? I don’t really know.
There is still blood-tinged soft stools. Once, yesterday at 12.30pm and again today, at 8.20am. But it isn’t as frequent as before, though, and there is no shooting diarrhoea anymore.
It looks like Indy can retain the raw chicken fillet. I also begun adding back some Cubgrub since yesterday and he has been able to retain it so far.
Currently, Indy is on raw chicken fillet with Cubgrub (smaller meals) and still on the Slippery Elm a...

Bunny’s Eye – To The Vet’s 28th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
It’s been practically a month of frequent vet visits for us.
On Saturday night, Bunny got bullied by Indy. Indy has been taking it out on Bunny lately. I think perhaps Indy is a little moody because he hasn’t been getting his full meals, so he took it out on the easiest cat to bully – Bunny.
Before this, Indy had always been very kind to Bunny, knowing that he is 80% blind. Indy would let Bunny walk all over him, bump into him and he had never retaliated at all. It was always C...

Indy’s Updates 27th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
I wish I had better news, but I don’t.
Indy was able to retain the raw chicken all night without vomiting or passing loose stools. I waited until after midnight and kept checking.
This morning, I found a few patches of small soft stools. I guess his intake is little, so the stools would be less too.
We carried on with the raw chicken fillet small meals throughout the day. There was blood-tinged soft stools at 12.30pm today. He is still on Slippery Elm which is supposed to help with mucus a...

The Big Jealous-Pot! 27th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Ginger is a big jealous-pot! He is jealous of Tabs, Heidi and now, Indy.
He has been going on a hunger strike for days now. But I didn’t let him go hungry because he had to eat his antibiotics, so I force-fed him just enough food. It’s not that he had no appetite, he did have, but he just didn’t want to eat his regular food.
So, what did he want?
I finally figured it out today.
He wanted to eat whatever Indy ate. If possible, he wants the ID, the steamed chicken with soup...

A 4th Shelter To Be Included And It’s All About Gratitude 27th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
This is a follow-up to yesterday’s announcement: https://myanimalcare.org/2019/1 0/26/to-all-donors-an-important-announcement/
We would like to further elaborate on why the initial three shelters were chosen and now, a fourth one will be included in our stopgap to use up excess funds.
Through the years, these four shelters have helped us before and we are very grateful for their unconditional goodwill. Now that we have excess funds, we would very much like to reciprocate their kindnes...

Indy’s Food Trials 26th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
The quest continues…
Indy has been back on ID ever since his loose stools started again. But this afternoon, things took a turn for the worse.
Right after a lunch of ID, Indy went straight to the sandpit and passed out a patch of very thick brown liquid. It reminds me of how we sometimes get diarrhoea where whatever we eat, the gut just rejects it and everything comes out.
So, that’s it with ID. No more.
After about an hour, I steamed some chicken fillet with soup for him. Of ...

Indy’s Reward – A Trip To The Patio 26th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy has been REALLY good, especially to me.
He didn’t like the ID, but after I explained that he needed it, he started eating it. Now, it seems that he actually likes it. Then, he didn’t like the Slippery Elm at all, but again, after he realised I was pinning my hopes on it working, he started eating it too when I mixed it with some ID. He did sniff at it and looked at me, as though saying, “But it has a funny smell….” but after explaining to him, he dutifully and...

Cleo Discovers Indy’s Secret 26th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Cleo is lining up too.
This is Indy’s secret dining place, which he decided for himself. It makes it easy for me to feed him his ID and the rest cannot disturb him or hound him for it. But Cleo found out about it yesterday and starting lining up too.
Sorry, Cleo. This is not your type of food.
I am trying this treatment regimen for Indy now: https://www.foodfurlife.com/my-cat-has-d iarrhea—what-do-i-do.html#/. It involves bland food, S. Boulardii, probiotic and Slippery Elm....

Cleo And Pole’s Check-Up 25th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Today was Cleo and Pole’s check-up after 6 weeks.
Cleo has been quite stressed during the twice-weekly subcut sessions, so I was really hoping she wouldn’t need it anymore after this.
As usual, Cleo mewed all the way in the car, at the clinic and during her check-up. The vet suspect she might be hyperthyroid too, so this was checked as well.
Thankfully, Cleo is NOT hyperthyroid and also, her creatinine level has come down from the previous 213 to 165 today (yes, subcut works!). Her S...
