A Subcut Session 2nd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Saturday is the day where all four of them get their subcut.
I was home alone so it had to be a single-handed job.
Indy’s.
Pole’s. Surprisingly she was very calm today.
Bunny Bun Buns – the easiest to handle.
He takes a nap during subcut.
I can even do a bottle change midway, so I time it such that the bottle change only happens when it’s Bunny’s turn.
This is because one bottle is 500ml and Bunny, Indy and Cleo need 200ml each while Pole needs 150ml. But Bunny...

Fooled! 2nd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I think I got fooled this morning. It probably wasn’t Indy’s stool (the promising firm and well-formed one). It was NEAR his poop-spot, but not ON his spot.
Because I found blood-tinged soft stools AT his spot just now.
Sigh….oh well. So much for that false hope this morning! Should have known it was too good to be true…
We will keep on trying, Indy.

Bushy White Returns 2nd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Oh no!
After almost two weeks of no Bushy White sightings (ever since Ginger’s big fight with him which landed poor Ginger with his Avatar-Klingon nose), Bushy White returns to torment Ginger today.
Yes, that’s him.
Tabs is providing support.
Tabs: I’m helping Ginger.
Tabs to Ginger: Let me know how I can help. I’ll help you, Ginger.
Bushy White: You cannot get me. Ha ha ha…
Nyeh heh heh…
Cow: Time to close ranks. We shall unite against the com...

Indy’s Close Shave 2nd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, I made a VERY wrong call on Indy’s diet. I erroneously thought that after one week on raw chicken fillet and Cubgrub Chicken, it might do Indy some good if I introduced a new food to him. Since everyone was on a trial protein rotation yesterday, I didn’t want to exclude Indy too.
It was a very, very wrong call.
Indy ended up with very loose stools (also blood-tinged) about 2 hours after ingesting the new food. That would be either (1) caused by the new food, (2) his condit...

Indy’s Trip Out 1st Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
…only to the patio, of course.
Ginger decided to approach Indy.
After all, it’s Ginger’s territory here. The good thing about Indy is he respects ownership of territory. When Indy gets to come out, he doesn’t attack anyone. But if Ginger goes to Bunny’s Place, that is a different story altogether.
Fair’s fair.
However, Bunny does NOT observe this philosophy. Bunny is master of all he surveys. He will attack anyone who stands in his path or whomever he d...

Indy’s Day 3 On Metrogyl 1st Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
It looked promising today. His morning stools were firmer already, but it is still not back to normal. Of course we know it would definitely take time. He has been having loose stools for more than 2 months now.
I would say that it’s slightly better than yesterday’s.
However, we had a setback at mid-morning when he passed out very loose stools that were blood-tinged. I found two patches of this. This is most likely due to the change of food given this morning. He was willing to eat ...

Bunny 97% Bright Eyes 1st Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Bunny’s right eye isn’t back to 100% normal yet, but there has been much improvement.
We would put it at 97%.
The cow-collar(!) is only for after applying the eyedrops. Just for a few minutes.
Slowly, we will get there. It’s the right eye that had an ulcer when (we suspect) Indy poked it last Saturday.
I am restarting Bunny on Petdiatrics’ Ophtal (an eye supplement with antioxidants). It helped his eye discharge a lot previously.
Nap time!

The Raw Deal – The Next Step (protein Rotation) 1st Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Now that everyone (yes, all eight of them) has converted to raw food, it’s time to take the next step – protein rotation.
From what I’ve read, it is recommended that we feed cats (or dogs) at least 3 different types of protein on a rotation basis: https://back2raw.ca/blogs/raw-dog-food /the-importance-of-protein-rotation
So, I actually started on the protein rotation sometime in the middle of last month. Their staple food is Cubgrub’s Chicken. I figured that since I ...

Who Is Mr Kiasu? 31st Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Ginger!
Everyone already knows that because Heidi gets to go out, he also wants to go out. That’s the old story.
He is SO super kiasu that he wants everything that anyone has.
Now, when Indy was eating chicken fillet, he demanded for it as well and when I did not give him any, he went on a hunger strike…until the next meal.
He wrestled this new deck chair from Tabs.
Shh…Cow is here.
See? Trying to sneak out before Heidi.
No more going out for you, Mr Kiasu! No more Avatar...

Indy, After One Day On Metrogyl 31st Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
I started Indy on Metrogyl (Metronidazole) yesterday. It was not exactly an easy decision because as far as possible, we would like to avoid the use of antibiotics. However, I think this problem has gone on for too long and we have tried natural remedies and other methods that avoided the use of antibiotics.
While naturopath-friends say I should let Indy’s body resolve the problem by itself, I don’t have the heart to go on seeing him pass out blood-tinged loose stools every day. It&r...

Indy And The Cowboys 30th Oct 2019, by AnimalCare
Bunny sunbathing.
His right eye is not back to normal yet, but there is some improvement.
I made a decision and started Indy on Metronidazole this morning.
This loose stool problem has been ongoing for too long now. Obviously, something is wrong in his gut. I’m going with the vet’s hypothesis that there is bacteria overgrowth there as that does account for the foul-smelling loose stools. Being on raw food, there should be very little stools. But Indy is defecating more ...
