Hi Dr. Chan,
Can you please help to post this?
My Pekingese + Shih Tzu mix female dog went missing on 12 December 2012 at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail. Her colour is white and brown and her name is Sausage. She is small sized and has no collar on her. I really miss her and want her back. I really hope that there’s someone good out there who found h...

When It Rains… 13th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
It’s raining cats and dogs now. It must be the monsoon season (or one of those inter-monsoon phenomena, my geography fails me, unfortunately), but it’s been raining heavily almost every day.
And during the rain, the community cats are never around. Even Rosie is not around. I suspect there is a feline rain shelter somewhere because after the rain, they will come back, clean and totally dry.
Even Raven went missing (remember?) when it rained and she came back an hour later, totally d...

The Crouching Ginger Escapes!! 13th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Ginger was making a racket in the cage this morning and it was because he had urinated and defecated after the “crouching ginger, hidden dragon” walk.
Good boy, Ginger, so I cleaned up his litter box and gave him fresh newspapers.
But he continued making a racket and (1) I felt sorry for him being confined for so many days, (2) I was worried the racket might disturb the neighbours. Nowadays, we are indeed quite terrified of people complaining about anything when it comes to animals a...

Spaying Subsidy For A Rescued Female Dog (Mah Chun Huey’s) 13th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Wow…it is very expensive to get a dog spayed in other states! But as per our subsidy policy, we have subsidised RM100 for this case below. Klang Valley folks are really lucky we can choose more “economically-priced” clinics which sometimes even offer free boarding for rescue cases.

Crouching Ginger, Hidden Dragon (Day 4) 13th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
The day started with a delicious meal of raw meat (meat, skin, gizzard, bones) plus Natural Balance and then it’s off for a walk in the park.
Here’s the Winter Sonata walkway leading to the pavilion.
Go, Ginger, go!
But er…Ginger was very cautious…so he walked, but crouched low, and very slowly.
We’ve often noticed this manner of walking in cats when they are cautious and on unfamiliar grounds – they crouch.
And they make quick dashes…so one has t...

A Novel Idea In Cat Fostering (shared By Koo) 12th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
I think many cat fosterers will find these ideas beneficial (provided their cats do not have the habit of shredding and tearing up paper and cardboard!)
Thanks for sharing, Koo.
Dear Dr Chan,
I was reading about Ginger not using the litter box and I believe it’s
because he crate-trained himself and treat the litter box as his bed
so of course, he would not soil it.
From my experience with cats and the most recent is with Caty, I would
put in a box big enough to fit a cat but small enough n...

Ginger’s Visit To The Vet’s 12th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Bye Rosie, we’re off to the vet’s. Will be home soon…
The vet said Ginger’s wound is healing very well. He said when I brought him in two days ago, the wound was actually on the verge of turning gangrenous as it was a very deep bite and the surrounding tissue had been badly infected. Yikes!
Ginger was given his next antibiotic jab; the vet pressed out some pus and cleaned out the wound. Ten minutes, and we were done and on our way home.
Koo gave me a brilliant id...

The Attack Of The Quack! 12th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Over at the Clubhouse, the day started with Mr G on the ledge.
I could be wrong, but before taking this photo, I saw him “in position” to spray and I believe he “sprayed from above”. If that happened, it’s no wonder my brood retaliates.
About an hour later, there was another red alert at the Clubhouse….
Oh my gosh…it’s the Quack!
Yes, it’s him and doesn’t he look kind of “old” and weather-beaten, pretty much like w...

Happiness Is Picking Up Cat Faeces! (Ginger Day 3) 12th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
First thing this morning, Ginger was sitting on the floor mat I had placed in the cage. And why? Because he had urinated and defecated in the litter-box!
Yay! What a great way to start the day!
The faeces was a bit hard, but well-formed.
A treat of raw meat (the works). He loves it!
Dermacyn treatment. He’ll just sit quietly to let me do it. I’m amazed.
If only I could do this with Cow, Bunny, Pole and Cleo. That family is…one of a kind. Why, yesterday was deworming day, ...

Ginger’s Night Walk…with Daffodil 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Before retiring for the night, I thought I should let Ginger out for awhile.
Daffodil was nearby, but at a safe distance.
It’s really sweet how Daffodil wants to be with Ginger and vice versa. She’s always nearby, but not too near. She’s not so afraid now and this is a safe and comfortable distance for her.
Ginger was limping again, but maybe it’s due to not walking or stretching while he was in the cage.
He’s still not used to being leash, so he prefers to...

Quack’s Reign Of Terror 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Today, Quack must have come into our house umpteen times from the front door, through the dining room and out to the patio, stopping at Ginger’s cage to terrorise him.
And I have refilled the water-gun many times to counter this reign of terror.
But the Quack is undeterred. He sleeps under my car and has claimed this place to be his terror-tory, I mean, territory.
He’s so fast, you can barely catch him on camera. That’s him in the photo above.
Daffodil has been coming to ...

Happy Honks As Man Saves Ducklings From Road 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Source: http://www.care2.com/causes/motorists-hap py-honks-as-man-saves-ducklings-from-road.html
Exc erpts:
So many of us have encountered an animal trying to cross the road in traffic and it’s often a dangerous situation for the rescuer, particularly if there’s a hot-head nearby. But when a Pennsylvania man jumped out of his car to help a family of ducks cross the road alive, he learned that for every driver impatiently hollering out the window, there are a dozen others who are lending ...

Ginger’s Harness And The Inside War 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
So the moment the shops opened, I was right there at the door, and I bought the harness! There were two types, one is just a harness and the other comes with a leash.
I thought the one with a leash would be more handy.
Being dyslexic, I had the proprietor teach me EXACTLY how it is to be used. Three times. Legs go in here, head here, this is on top, tighten, that’s it. Okay, got it.
How difficult can it be, right?
This one.
But er…my dyslexia must have got worse over the last fe...

Ginger Out On A Leash (as A Temporary Measure) 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Ginger was making the most pitiful little mews so I thought I should let him walk around a bit.
Bobby’s harness is way too big so that won’t do.
I dug my stuff and found the very first collar we bought 6 years ago. It was for one of our cats, but we never used it after we found out that cats should not be allowed to wear collars.
Since the shops are not opened yet, I decided I’d use this and try my luck.
So I put the green collar on Ginger and attached it to Bobby’s l...

Feline Terrorism On The Rise? 11th Dec 2012, by AnimalCare
Maybe it has something to do with 21.12.12, or maybe not, but feline terrorism seems to be on the rise in our neighbourhood ever since Mr Quack invaded our otherwise peaceful neighbourhood.
I saw this just now.
Hmm….Mr Quack has claimed our house and is preventing other cats from coming in?
No can do. So I brought the water-gun out and sprayed him away.
The moment Rosie and Daffodil saw me at the gate, they came running from the playground as though they were so relieved. Poor things...
