A Heartwarming Bird Story 7th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
On 16th October 2019, I received this email from a kind young man, Kim Wee:
I got your contact from your book “Pawprints on my heart.” I am writing to you because I am in need of help to rescue a bird and its eggs. The bird, which looks like a quail, built its nest on the bonnet of my father’s car and laid two eggs a few days ago (please see the attached pictures). We live in Subang Jaya and the car is parked there. I was wondering if you, or anyone you know, could offer us so...

It’s Cubgrub For Indy 7th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I woke up this morning, checked the sandpit and found NO stools. I hope this means that the mishap yesterday was just a one-off pasty-stool episode and Indy managed to overcome that on his own.
As I was preparing breakfast for everyone, I saw Indy go to the sandpit, so I quickly went out to observe.
Okay, so now I can confirm 100% that this is Indy’s stool and Indy’s poo-spot. I waited with bated breath to see the stools.
Well, it is a slight improvement from yesterday&r...

Transitioning Indy….again 6th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Ten days on raw chicken fillet is long enough. I have to transition Indy back to Cubgrub.
Since he could not tolerate Primal from yesterday, Cubgrub is his only choice of balanced food.
So, it took a lot of patience today, but with every raw chicken meal, I sat with him and coaxed him to eat a teaspoon of Cubgrub. Spoon by spoon, I managed to increase it to three teaspoons by lunch time.
It’s more difficult now because we cannot use the window sill anymore. Indy uses it as an escape route ...

Because Of You, Ginger 6th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Yes, because of you….
Tabs doesn’t have easy access to our bedroom anytime she wants and she loves to sit on the table by the window to look at the scenery at the park. We cannot leave our door open because you will go in and spray at her favourite spot.
Because of you too, Heidi doesn’t have her favourite nap-spot in the kitchen rack today. You went and sprayed on it. And your urine splattered everywhere. And even though I’ve washed it, Heidi won’t sleep on it now...

Bunny 100% Bright Eyes 6th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Bunny finished his plasma eye gel on Sunday and since then, we’ve noticed that besides healing the eye ulcer (inflicted by Indy in a fight – in the right eye), Bunny’s eyesight seemed to have improved as well!
Bunny was declared 80% blind some years back and this has been confirmed by two vets. He also often bumps into things, but generally he is still able to navigate his way around because of his sense of smell.
But since Sunday, we have noticed that Bunny is able to avoid ob...

Fighting Over The Grass 6th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, I planted this row of grass for Heidi. It’s her medicinal herb.
It’s difficult letting Heidi go out to eat because she won’t come back after that. She would want to do her rounds outside and sometimes, I’m in a hurry to get to work and I cannot get her back into the house.
She’d only come back on her own terms and if all of us are at work, she could be stuck outside for hours.
Heidi didn’t know about this, so I carried her to show her, but guess wh...

Indy: Another Setback 6th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy has been refusing to eat even a little bit of Cubgrub for two days now and I was worried that he wasn’t getting enough of a balanced diet, so last night, I tried a bit of Primal for him, which he happily ate.
This morning, I found loose stools in the sandpit.
Looks like it’s still too early to introduce any “other” food to him. He has been on chicken fillet for 10 days now, with just the occasional one teaspoon of Cubgrub which I have to coax him to eat.
He also does...

Indy Eats Grass 5th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Oh goody! It’s not wasted effort. Indy is eating the “Malaysian” grass (Heidi’s herb).
He still likes serai, though.
Second time spotted him eating.
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/upload s/2019/11/WhatsApp-Video-2019-11-05-at-11.48.29.mp 4
Really eating!
I think we should bring in more of this grass/weed.
Today’s stool report:
IF the stool on the right side is Indy’s, then that’s good. It is still blood-tinged but it’s much firmer and...

Will The Real Indy-Poop Please Stand Up? 4th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I came home today and found really nice, healthy looking and firm stools NEAR Indy’s spot again. I scooped it up and took photos, hoping like crazy that it is indeed Indy’s poop.
Today is Day 6 of the Metronidazole.
Then, I fed everyone. Indy only wants to eat raw chicken fillet now. He doesn’t want to even touch Cubgrub. Looks like I would eventually have to slowly transition him back to Cubgrub again since he cannot go on chicken fillet for the long term. It isn’t balan...

WHO Is Pooping At Indy’s Spot? 4th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
This morning, I found four very well-formed and totally normal-looking stools between Cleo’s and Indy’s poop-spots in the sandpit. It was actually closer to Indy’s spot.
Not wanting to get my hopes up high and be fooled again, I decided to classify it as “unknown” instead of attributing it to Indy. I didn’t even take a photograph of it.
Indy has been known to poop in other spots over the last few weeks, but it was easy to identify that those were his because t...

A CNRM-Cat At The National Zoo! 4th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Koo and his family went to the National Zoo yesterday and spotted a CNRM-cat!
He shared these photos:
See the ear-notch?
It gives us great hope whenever we spot ear-notched animals on the street and in public places.
It tells us that someone is neutering these animals, ear-notching them and hopefully someone is looking after them too. Also, we know that this ear-notched animal will not breed anymore and hundreds of street births have been prevented. Thousands! Millions!

Let Grass Be Thy Medicine – Heidi’s Herb 3rd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I decided to try planting Heidi’s herb again.
The last time I did it, she refused to eat it. She still wanted to go out to her stash at the park, but lately, we noticed Heidi has been a little tired going to the park. Luckily we also have this same weed/herb in our garden, so the moment she comes out, she will head straight for the weeds/herbs, but the problem is, she won’t come back to the house after that. She would end up on the road or crosses over to the park or some neighbour&r...

The Raw Deal – Into The Second Month 3rd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
We are into our second month of 100% raw food for the cats. It’s been 5 weeks since we started on this project.
For this month, my target is to reduce the “incentives”, which is Primal as toppings.
We managed to bring down Ginger’s (obese) 6.5kg to 6.1kg in one month. However, the two days of guzzling his newly discovered Cubgrub Quail brought his weight back up to 6.4kg. So, we shall have to work on this again.
However, one good thing is that he is now willing to eat Cu...

Let The Poo Speak! 3rd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I’ve now become a poo-scrutiniser.
Indeed, the poo is an indicator of our health and more so for Indy.
So, what does his poo tell us today?
Since yesterday, Indy didn’t want to eat Cubgrub anymore. He only wanted his raw chicken fillet. I give him what he wants because he probably has some tummy upset and he knows what he can eat and what he cannot.
I’ve been giving him medium-sized pieces so that he can chew.
This morning, he ate a lot of it and very fast too. Okay, a good ap...

Indy: A Setback 2nd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy excreted a small patch of really runny and blood-tinged stools, discovered at 2pm today.
Sigh…
He didn’t have any new food today. The stools at 10.50am were just soft and now at 2pm, it’s all runny (but only a small patch).
I’ve already discussed this with Indy’s vet and we will continue with the Metronidazole for a total of 10 days and B12 on alternate days until the stools firm up.
Let’s hope we have better news tomorrow.
On hindsight, in the past, wh...
