The Boycott And The Demand 11th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Either it was too early, but Ginger’s just being Ginger. I think it’s more of the latter. Ginger refused to eat his Chicken today. He did the usual whining and walking in and out of the kitchen demanding for whatever he wanted.
Ginger: I’m boycotting Chicken and demanding for Duck or Quail of whatever exotic proteins you have. I’m not going to eat until I get what I want.
Okay, Ginger. Till lunch time, then.
But to show his displeasure, he started spraying eve...

Oh No…..(Indy’s News) 11th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I was full of hope that Alpteses would work for Indy. He had one sachet yesterday, spread over lunch (11am) and dinner (5pm), as per the instructions.
I watched Indy and the sandpit all night and was too happy that there were no stools for the day until….
At 10.52pm when Indy went to the sandpit and there it was…
He purged out liquid stools followed by one partially formed very soft stool.
Sigh….
This was followed by more totally liquid stools, spotted at 11.45pm and again, ...

Alpteses And NaturVet’s 10th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Here’s a comparison between Alpteses (taken from PetDiatrics’ website) and NaturVet’s Digestive Enzymes.
Alpha Amilase 2320 SKBU
Lipase 210 LU
Cellulose 75 CMCU
Protease 22100 PU
Bacillus Coagulant 100 million CFU
As you can see, the units are different and I am not at all familiar with them, so I guess I cannot find any basis to compare. If anyone can help with the comparison, I would greatly appreciate it.
Coincidentally, I had already restarted Indy on NaturVet’s this...

Ginger Got His Duck Food 10th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Ginger got his Cubgrub Duck for breakfast this morning.
And he LOVED it so much!
Look at the bowl – it’s licked so clean you don’t even have to wash it.
Ginger, you can be the cover boy for protein rotation advertisement!
Of course he asked for more, and yes, I gave him, but only one teaspoon more.
Cleo is refusing to eat Duck today, so between Ginger and Bunny, they finished the remainder in the bottle by lunch time.
So now, only Ginger and Bunny eat Duck.
And only Ginger eat...

Alpteses For Indy 10th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I was at the vet’s with Heidi today and the vet said to try Alpteses for Indy.
Alpteses is a pancreatic digestive enzyme, from Petdiatrics. It’s a powder to be mixed with food or I could also put it into capsules as an alternative method of feeding it.
So I tried it during lunch just now and mixed it with some Cubgrub. Initially, Indy wasn’t willing to eat it due to the new smell. It took some coaxing, but he finally did. What a good boy he is.
Because I was so worried about He...

Heidi To The Vet’s 10th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Late last night, Jia-Wen noticed a wound on Heidi’s thigh.
It looked like this. Wet.
That totally freaked me out and I quickly searched for pictures of Tiger’s and Zurik’s sporo lesions last time. Zurik had a classical sporo lesion, but Tiger’s were not the typical classical type.
And Heidi wound looked a bit like Tiger’s sporo lesions. So, you can imagine how worried I was all of last night, this morning and until we went to the vet’s. On the way there, I wa...

Fillet Plus – Giving It More Time 9th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Fillet Plus didn’t quite produce the result that I had hoped for.
Indy had blood-tinged soft stools at 1.00pm today. And this happened within 15 minutes after his meal. The stools were also light brown, which means it’s “fresh”?
His last stool output was at 6.30pm yesterday where it was liquid stools (definitely a setback). From then until just now, he has had five meals.
The volume of stools at 1.00pm was more than normal too, which again, is a setback.
Maybe his gut nee...

The Boycott Ends 9th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Ginger’s boycott of Chicken ended at 3.40pm today.
After he decided to boycott food this morning, he went to sleep in his cage until 3.40pm when he came to the kitchen asking for food.
Yes, eat up, Ginger.
(It’s Chicken that I’m giving him, but I am defrosting the Duck that he loves so much. He will get it later tonight.)

I’m glad the boycott has ended now. I hear that some ca...

Indy’s Homemade Raw Food 9th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I call it “Fillet Plus”.
Thanks to Lin Li who suggested that I make our own balanced raw food for Indy, I tried it today. and Indy ate it!!
We don’t know which ingredient in Cubgrub Indy has an adverse reaction to, but we strongly suspect it is either the fish oil or the egg yolk. Or is it because it is grinded?
We really don’t know!
Indy has so far been doing quite well on raw chicken fillet. He was okay with 50-50 raw chicken and Cubgrub but still cannot tolerate ...

Indy’s News 9th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
This morning, I did not find any liquid stools or any stool in Indy’s poo-spot, but it’s still early.
Indy finished his Metronidazole yesterday and the vet confirms that we will not be continuing with it (which is a relief).
I ended up giving Indy a double dosage of the S.Boulardii yesterday, divided into four half-doses spread out throughout the day. The website says one method is to “flush the system” with S.Boulardii, so I’m trying this now.
Today would be a day ...

The Raw Deal – The Boycott 9th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, Ginger, Cleo and Bunny were the willing eaters of the new protein – Duck.
This morning, it was back to Chicken for everyone but Cleo and Ginger decided to stage a boycott.
“We want Duck, We want Duck, We want Duck!”, they chimed.
But I had already frozen the remaining portion of Duck for another day, so it wasn’t possible to defrost it immediately. Also, Duck isn’t supposed to be their staple food.
So, everyone ate their Chicken except Ginger and Cleo.
I...

The Raw Deal – Introducing Duck For Protein Rotation And More About Indy 8th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I bought a jar of Cubgrub Duck today and tried it on the gang.
As expected, Ginger thought it was cat cuisine, guzzled it all up and asked for more. Last week, he did the same with Quail too. So, as of now, Ginger already has three proteins – Chicken, Quail and Duck!
As for the rest, Bunny and Cleo ate the Duck too, but the rest did not. However, Pole was willing to eat her usual Chicken from a bowl that had a teeny weeny bit of Duck removed from it (without washing the bowl) while Heidi w...

What Will Work, Indy? 8th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Today is Day 10 of the Metronidazole (the last day).
I’ve come to a point where I don’t know what will work for Indy’s loose stools anymore.
What works for others somehow does not work for him: Pumpkin, Slippery Elm Bark, disgestive enzymes, probiotics, etc. Dr Pitcairn even writes that Slippery Elm Bark is “an excellent treatment for diarrhoea from any cause” and I’ve read so many good reviews on it too. But it did not work for Indy. It’s also tou...

Why Did Indy Call? 7th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy made the dinner call at 4.30pm. It was too early, but he kept calling.
So, I gave him food and because of that, everyone else also had their dinner very early today. However, Indy wasn’t too keen to eat, but since I had already cut the chicken fillet and prepared this food, I coaxed him to eat and he did.
At 5.30pm, Indy kept calling again.
He cannot be hungry so soon, can he?
So I went in and see what he wanted.
That’s when Indy led me out of Bunny’s Room, and naturally, ...
