Please Be Careful: All Caregivers Of Black Cats 20th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Dear Friends,
Yesterday, I received a call from an unknown number. It was a man with a very loud voice and he sounded very desperate. He spoke in Cantonese and it sounded like he was asking if we had cats for adoption. I said no and cut him off as I did not have a good feeling about it.
Just now (just minutes ago), he called me again. He started off in Cantonese but switched to English when I kept asking him to repeat himself.
He said he was looking to adopt a cat and asked if I had any. I said ...

An Uneventful Night 20th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Ever since the Sabah incursion escalated into what it is now, we’ve been praying for “uneventful days”. “No event” is GOOD. So every time my daughter, Ming-Yi, sends a text that says, “All is well in Kunak”, it IS a cause for celebration. The moment is all we have and we pray for peaceful moments always. We can certainly do without all the heart-stopping news, as celebratory as it may be, believe me, we can do without them. Uneventful is good, boring is ...

Bunny’s Paw 19th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Being FIV+, Bunny has always taken longer than the ordinary cat to heal from any ailment.
After 5 days of antibiotics (Clavomox and Metronidazole), Bunny can finally place his paw on the ground and walk on all fours. (Of course he chased the cockroach two nights ago too…shh!)
The right paw is okay now, but Bunny still limps a wee bit.
At times, he still lifts his paw to show us that it hurts…poor Bunny Bun Buns.
One indication that he has got better would be that he started bullyi...

All Quiet At Bunny’s Place Until… 19th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
All afternoon, Indy was fast asleep on my table. The morning attempt must have totally exhausted him.
Then, it was dinner time…
Pole is all muscle, isn’t she?
Her brothers, on the other hand, are…”prosperously endowed”!
Indy is also all muscle.
This explains Pole and Indy’s agility. It’s all in the muscles.
After dinner, everyone went to the Clubhouse for their usual evening sojourn and all was well.
Of course Indy was still looking for possi...

What Is The Oscillot Cat-Fence? 19th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
To all cat-owners who have escape artists, you may wish to check this out though it is not available here: http://www.oscillot.com.au/main/page_home.h tml
Do you think it will work? http://www.thecatsite.com/t/247637/oscillot -cat-fence
Our disclaimer holds.
I think with Pole and Indy, I’ll just play it safe and revert to the conventional “fence” concept. No more nettings, I’ll probably use polycarbonate if it doesn’t cost a bomb!
With nettings, the sturdy ones ar...

Indy Tries Again… 19th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
As the saying goes, “If at first you don’t succeed, try and try again…”
“Don’t quit!”, we are often told. “Take up the challenge, don’t give up so easily!”. These slogans have been shouting at us since time immemorial.
That being the case, how can we blame Indy for not trying again, right?
So, after breakfast this morning, our masked hero went to check things out.
He doesn’t give up… Where is my launching pad??
He mo...

Spaying Subsidy For 2 Female Cats (Shahrizad Mahat’s) 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
We have subsidised RM200 for the neutering of 2 female cats.

Subject: Female stray
To: Chan Kah Yein <chankahyein@gmail.com>
Dear Dr Chan,
I would like to apply for subsidy for another stray female cat found in my school compound. The thing is these cats would give birth in the staffroom or any room that they find suitable. This also causes unnecessary stress for some teachers who do not like cats.
Thank you ...

Curbing The Spider-Cat (Steps 1 & 2) 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
I was really at my wits’ end as to how to stop Indy’s escapades, so I called my friend, Cathy. She always gives me very helpful ideas.
Here are some ideas:
1. Clip Indy’s nails short so that he cannot hook on to the netting. This is only a temporary measure as he still needs his nails for survival and protection.
2. Remove the two shelves. (Sobs…poor Cleo, these are her favourite look-out points.)
3. Replace the netting with polycarbonate once and for all. At least it wil...

Indy’s Escape – EXPOSED!! 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
I waited patiently with Tiger and Bunny as Indy mooched around the garden. I just had an instinctive feeling he would try to escape again.
It didn’t take long…
He jumped onto the lower shelf and looked up.
Then he looked at me.
I held my breath.
Then he jumped onto the higher shelf.
He juggled a little, positioned himself and…
It only took one leap.
There was no scaling of the wall. He didn’t even touch the wall!
All it took was just one big leap and he was a...

Watching Indy Like A Hawk… 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
When I came home today, I released Indy from the condo…
Mr G had come a-visiting…
I still think Indy used this escape route…but how?
Upon his release, Indy made a bee-line for the sidegate….to spy on the Patio Family.
I thought I should put his tshirt on. Maybe it will make a difference?
But a fight broke out between Pole and Indy. This is nothing new. The two had been at loggerheads for years even in the old neighbourhood because both of them would always be ...

Bunny Bun Buns Chases A Cockroach! Shh… 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Poor Bunny…the paw must have hurt quite a bit, and being the “bunny” that he is, he didn’t dare step on his paw until….he saw a cockroach and “forgot” he was injured! I saw Bunny happily chasing the cockroach all over the room last night and yes, he was using all four paws!
That’s good news for us! But right after that, Bunny began limping again….
After the romp with the cockroach (which escaped), Bunny limped back to his floor-mat.
Ear...

Trying To Decipher Indy’s Escape Route And….he Makes Another Escape!! 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
So last night Indy slept in the cage. I just couldn’t take any chances of him escaping in the middle of the night.
This morning I asked my husband where he found Indy last night. According to him, Indy was meowing at our bedroom door. So that confirmed my theory. It must be the Pole-Condo route as the water pipe would lead to the roof if he manages to tip-toe on the water pipe, that is….
From pillow on top of the condo (the condo was pushed out yesterday, not what you see above no...

HOW Did Indy Escape? 18th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
This morning, we went out for breakfast and thereafter to visit my parents. We must have spent at least two hours away from home. When we got back home and after awhile, my husband saw Indy in the side garden, mooching around the plants and he seemed very “frenzied”.
Now, HOW one earth did Indy get out?? And gosh, WHERE did he go throughout the 2 hours? I swear I did not see him slip out in the morning when I went in and out of the room. Or did he only slip out after we came home bec...
