It’s A Non-Venomous “wolf Snake” 23rd Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Many, many thanks to everyone who is helping me identify the snake that the cats brought back.
My friend consulted a herpetologist who is doing her PhD and here is what she says:
The snake is Lycodon capucinus or wolf snake. Feed on geckos, small frogs and very common even inside offices if situated near jungles. This is a non-venomous snake.
I had a horrible day yesterday thinking it may be a cobra or later, a python (what if there are big ones around?), so worried for all the cats, inside and ...

Why Are These People Crying? (from PETA) 23rd Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Source: http://www.peta.org/b/thepetafiles/archiv e/2013/03/12/why-are-these-people-crying.aspx?utm_ campaign=0313%20People%20Crying%20Blog&utm_sou rce=PETA%20E-Mail&utm_medium=E-News
An excerpt:
Paul McCartney famously said, “If slaughterhouses had glass walls, everyone would be vegetarian.” So an intrepid group of animal advocates found a way to bring the slaughterhouse to the sidewalk. Every Saturday night, volunteers Jennifer Mennuti and Boyd Weidman screen PETA’s...

It’s A Python, Not A Cobra 22nd Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Sobs….no photos, just the reply from the Wildlife Dept (this is regarding that dead snake the cats brought back yesterday):
The snake pictured is a reticulated phyton /phytus reticulutus (or ular sawa batek in Malay). It is a non-poisonous snake and not dangerous to human unless it is big one. It doesn’t look like a “normal coloured phyton) because it is in the process of shedding its old skin.
Terima kasih
Saya yang menurut perintah,

Sobs…was It A Cobra? 22nd Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
There are no photos in this post, so you can read on without fear. Yesterday, we found a dead (already hardened) snake carcass in the patio. We figured the cats must have brought it in as a “food offering”: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/03/ 21/34752/
So far, three sources have identified it to be most likely a cobra. One source said it may even be a python.
Sobs…
Come to think of it, the bigger one (on Chinese New Year 1st day) was brown and all three smaller ones were black. T...

4 Ways To Help Animals 21st Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
I thought this article is so simple and straight to the point: http://www.care2.com/causes/4-ways-to-help -homeless-cats.html (it applies to dogs too!)
In summary:
1. Neuter your own pets.
2. Adopt pets, don’t buy.
3. Support sources that neuter at a low cost.
4. Support TNR programmes.
With the revised RM150 subsidy for the neutering of street dogs (for cats, it stays at RM100), we are now hoping to reach out further and wider to animal caregivers all over Malaysia to get them to partic...

And What Are The Escape Artists Up To Now? 21st Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
To my relief, Indy has NOT tried another escape…so far. I think he has learnt that it’s not possible to use that escape route anymore, what with his trimmed nails and the removal of that “launching pad” shelf.
Still, we decided to let the three non-Cow Family members have a breath of fresh air outside the room. They must be pretty stressed out inside always under the intimidation of Cow & Bunny.
Hello, Tiger…don’t be afraid. It’s safe here…

The Patio Family Brought Back “food” Again 21st Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
This morning, luckily my husband went out to the garden before I did. The Patio Family had brought back “food” again, and this time they left it right outside the patio.
It was another dead snake.
Sobs…
There must be a nest somewhere and I’ve already alerted the neighbours previously. Surprisingly none of the neighbours expressed any concern. One even said there cannot be any nest here and that’s that.
My husband took a photo of the snake and he’ll try and ide...

Photo Updates Of Raven 20th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare
Do you remember Raven? She’s the little black kitten who came on her own to Bunny’s Place late one night and refused to leave. She was full of mange then, and barely 2 months old.
Raven stayed with me (with Bosco as her “mentor”), her mange healed completely (thanks to a spot-on and daily application of Johnson’s Baby Oil) and she was subsequently adopted by a dear friend, DT.
Today I alerted DT about the man who is looking for black cats for suspicious reasons.
And...
