Vaccination Aid For 1 Cat In Setia Alam (Po Ye Koon’s) 15th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
We have provided a full sponsorship of RM25 for the vaccination of this cat.
This is the same cat as the one in the previous post.
Mr Po informed us that many adopters request the rescuer to neuter and provide the vaccination before adopting the animal. For such cases, we will only provide aid for the first vaccination. We believe the new owner should at least take care of the 2nd vaccination. And we hope that should the animal need medical treatment for any reason later, the owner will take car...

And When The Clock Struck 12, It Happened! 15th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Luckily I stayed up tonight.
At 5 minutes before 12midnight just now, Indy went out of the room and headed for the sandpit. I had been waiting all night for this to happen.
So I followed him with a torchlight.
He went to the sandpit, dug a hole and got into position.
I witnessed it all – first, it was watery, then followed by some stools with some blood (not as much as yesterday’s). I scooped it up immediately before he could cover it and felt the texture with another scoop – i...

Heidi’s Mishap 14th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I owe you the story about why Heidi was eating raw chicken fillet today instead of her usual Cubgrub.
What happened was, last night, I made a fresh pot of bone broth and I deboned the chicken carcass after that. So there was some cooked meat which Ginger and Heidi absolutely love. I asked at the raw feeding FB group if the cooked meat can be fed to the cats and was told there was no harm in doing so although it is probably not very nutritious anymore since all the nutrients have already leached ...

Indy, Where’s Your Poop? 14th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Last night I was quite worried about Indy when the vet suggested that we either (1) change his diet to the gastrointestinal kibble or (2) put him on a low dose of steroids.
First, I would clarify that I am not a diehard-refuse-to-budge-no-matter-what proponent of raw food. I believe that raw food is the biologically appropriate food for cats since they are obligate carnivores. I have read a lot about the benefits of raw food for cats too and that is why I made the attempt to transition all our c...

Indy’s Check-Up 14th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
As expected, the conclusion is, we still don’t know what is wrong with Indy.
But there is some good news. It’s not cancer because if it is, there would be protein loss.
The vet took some stool sample and examined under the microscope. She did find a lot of microbes, but they turned out to be bacteria and yeast, which is normal after a course of antibiotics. There was no coccidia, but just to cover our bases, Indy will go on a 3-day course of anti-protozoa (Toltrazuril) for coccidiosi...

What If….? 14th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I had a discussion with Indy’s vet yesterday and she is concerned about the blood in his stools.
Of course I am too. I am also aware that one of the causes of blood in the stools is cancer although we have not discussed this yet but much earlier on, the vet found no growths or lumps in his intestines.
Yesterday’s stool output had more fresh blood than usual and I sent a photo of this to the vet. To cut the story short, the vet gave two suggestions: (1) Put Indy on the gastrointestina...

Not Trichomonosis Or Coccidiosis 13th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Ok, the vet said it’s not trichomonosis or coccidiosis. So, we have ruled these two out. She suspects it is a immune mediated bowel disease. We did not have time to discuss as this was through text messages.
I guess that sounds like an autoimmune condition.
Typical Indy – baffling the vets.
Meanwhile, life goes on….

Feline Coccidiosis – The Search Continues 13th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy had more blood in his stools today. Sigh.
My search has led me to this: https://www.pethealthnetwork.com/cat-he alth/cat-diseases-conditions-a-z/coccidiosis-cats
Again, the symptoms fit: bloody stools.
But this link talks about more symptoms: https://www.petmd.com/cat/condition s/infectious-parasitic/c_ct_coccidiosis
And Indy doesn’t have some of the said symptoms like “weak, feverish and weight loss”.
I’ll need to check with Indy’s vet again –...

Feline Trichomonosis And Differential Diagnosis For Indy 13th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I posted for help and suggestions at a raw feeding FB group and someone shared that her cats had feline trichomonosis.
So I looked it up and found this link: https://www.americanveterinarian.com/ne ws/update-on-feline-trichomonosis-to-treat-or-not- to-treat
Diarrhea associated with T. foetus can be semi-soft but may be mucoid or bloody and is usually not accompanied by other signs (eg, weight loss). Although the diarrhea can recur intermittently for years, it can also resolve on i...

Bunny Bright Eyes 12th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Bunny’s vision seemed to have improved ever since he was on the plasma eye gel due to an ulcer (we suspect inflicted by sharp-shooter Indy during a stand-off).
Now, he not only screams at his enemies like Ginger and Heidi when he comes out (to their territory), but he also chases them. And in the right direction too!
He is out in the patio and has taken over Heidi’s house. Bunny doesn’t care about territory; he is master of all he surveys. I come, I see, I conquer or perh...

Indy’s Bone Broth And Some Reflections 12th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Indy simply loves his bone broth!
I don’t know how much Indy is supposed to eat, so I give the broth to him as a snack in between meals.
Of course everyone else wants it too!
https://myanimalcare.org/wp-content/uploads/2 019/11/3-video.mp4
Heidi absolutely loves it too!
Sedap, ya?
Heidi and Ginger fighting over the bowl of broth.
Indy having a second round of bone broth with Cow, Bunny and Pole (in her condo).
Since the day Indy reacted badly to the digestive enzymes (Alpteses), I dec...

Making Bone Broth For The Cats 12th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Desperate to find a solution for Indy’s loose stool problem, I joined an FB group of raw feeders for cats and was advised to give Indy some bone broth as it is supposed to be very healing for the gut. It is also good for the liver and for the joints.
And it’s also good for humans, of course.
This is the link: https://tailblazerscopperfield.com/bone -broth-a-superfood-for-dogs-cats/
I started giving it to Indy yesterday and he absolutely LOVES it. So do Cow, Bunny, Pole, Cleo, Gi...
