Oh No! Spider-Cat Strikes Again!!
1st Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

It’s not like we haven’t been on our toes, we checked Indy’s nails last week and even though they were still short and blunt, we trimmed off the ends. This morning, Bunny was trying to tell us something, but me being dumb (yes, so dumb!) didn’t realise it. Well, I knew something was amiss, because Bunny did not come for breakfast. Bunny didn’t come for breakfast???? Yes, he did not. Instead, he was mooching at the “Corner of the Great Escape”. He even st...

Sporotrichosis In Cats
1st Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

In the last two days, I’ve received three enquiries on the treatment of sporotrichosis in pet cats. All three are pets, not strays or newly rescued cats. There is cause for concern if they are pets. As far as we know, sporotrichosis is not seasonal. It is a fungal disease and cats are known to be infected by it through puncture wounds and bites (usually from fights). This article: http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm? c=1+2134&aid=358 talks about the treatment and prevention: What...

30th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

We have subsidised RM90 for the treatment of this female puppy, suspected of parvo virus, rescued by Lester Hiew and his mother. We have verified this case with the vet and the vet informed us that the female puppy was tested negative of parvovirus but found to have the symptoms. The puppy was treated and has recovered. Lester has taken the puppy home. The puppy also had a male sibling and he was tested positive. The male sibling did not make it. Lester initially applied for the male sibling: Fr...

Taking Cow To The Vet’s
30th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

We noticed this red spot on Cow’s paw this morning. Knowing how prone he is to paw wounds and how badly affected he would be, we wasted no time in taking him to the vet’s for a check-up. Furthermore, when we tried to “check”, he got all defensive and he “almost killed us”! Cow, as you know, is extremely fierce…with us.  So, armed with a towel, I managed to put him into the carrier. Timmy came to send him off to the car… It was just a short ride,...

30th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

In February 2012, I wrote about Busa, a rescued cat with a fractured backbone. Billie and Puspa were both first-time rescuers, but they did not give up on Busa. Happiness Is…
29th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

It’s been one month since the Sabah incursion escalated into a frightening and worrying state, especially for those of us who have loved ones over there in the “special security zone”. We’ve been keeping up with the daily news; whatever the media and alternative media could provide, as well as direct news from my daughter, Ming-Yi, who is serving in Hospital Kunak. This weekend, being a long weekend for Sabah (Good Friday), Ming-Yi was able to come back.  Cow Mau is alw...

Going The Extra Mile Towards Kindness To Animals
28th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

In my public talks, I am sometimes asked about vegetarianism and whether it is a necessary practice if one professes to be an animal-lover. There is no right or wrong answer to this. It is all up to one’s own conscience and personal interpretation. However, I have learnt that when it comes to food and matters involving the tongue, it often becomes a highly sensitive issue and it touches a raw nerve in some people. That is why I’ve long adopted a moderate stand – just eat less m...

Mr Low Hong Hang brought this black female dog for spaying a few days ago (now already spayed) but decided to surrender the dog to PAWS as he felt the dog is very friendly and can be adopted. Mr Low did not have the heart to release the dog back to the construction site and be subjected to accident or any eventualities. Moreover, the dog is a loner and has no family members at the construction site in North Port. She is estimated to be about 2 years old. The dog’s spaying has been fully sp...

Kimi’s Home!! (a Sharing By Koo)
28th Mar 2013, by AnimalCare

As a pet owner, my two greatest nightmares would be (1) my pet has a life-threatening illness and there is no known treatment, and (2) my pet is lost. Kimi was lost two weeks ago. She struggled out of her leash and ran off during a routine morning walk with her owner, Mr Lee. Efforts were made to locate her but she could not be found until…yesterday! Ref: http://myanimalcare.o rg/2013/03/27/kimi-lost-shiba-inu-dog-in-ttdi-a-re quest-by-koo-swee-por/ Here is the story below (from Koo) and ...
