Oh No!! Indy, Is That You??
6th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

My son sent me this photo while he was having dinner across the main road from our house: Oh no!!!!  It’s Indy???!! How did he escape from the house, cross the main road and settle down in a Malay coffee shop??? Peek-a-boo!! That coffee shop cat was an Indy look-alike…Phew!! Indy is safe and sound, at home with me… In my present state of paranoia (that Indy would somehow escape again), I could have panicked bigtime had I seen that cat in that coffee shop!

A Baby Bird Incident
6th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

As I was stock-checking after the event today, I suddenly heard the frantic chattering of birds in the garden. It sounded like a panic call so I rushed out. Timmy was running, also in panic mode, and he had a baby bird in his mouth. Two adult birds were chattering wildly. I smacked Timmy real hard but he refused to let go, so I took the hose to spray at him. By then, my husband managed to make Timmy drop the baby bird. He picked up the bird and she was still alive. He then managed to feed the bi...

Here we are at our booth. From left: Winnie, me and Connie. Our TY toys and keychains. A cat in the doggie playpen? There were many animals for adoption as every Saturday is also Ohana’s Adoption Drive Day.  Many thanks to Ms Tan Chooi Chooi for inviting us to be part of Ohana’s World Stray Weekend cele...

All Is Well At Bunny’s Place (Spider-Cat Fence Impenetrable)
6th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

I had a nightmare last night. I dreamed that Indy had escaped and was walking on the ledge. It woke me up and before I allowed my mind to conjure horrible possibilities, I quickly came downstairs. Checked the room….Phew! Indy is in the pantry, waiting eagerly for breakfast.  A “thanksgiving” breakfast of Monge was served. What are we thanking for? Well, that no one escaped! Or worse, escaped and got hurt. Here are some photos taken last night…  Indy was trying to figu...

As Expected, Spider-Cat Tries Again!
5th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

Cats vs humans? Cats win hands down. Yes, we, with all our technological know-how and computer knowledge, cats still win hands down.  After cleaning up the place and picking up all the debris, I let the cats out to explore their “new” place.  The contractor didn’t have the tools to put back the shelf (lower, nearer to the ground) so I made a make-shift ramp for them to play on.  Indy wasn’t too interested in his new fence. He would rather stalk the Patio Family.  ...

The Spider-Cat Fence…in The Making
5th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

I have been waiting and waiting for that phonecall from the contractor to say that the galvanised frame for the polycarbonate pieces would finally be ready… And just as I was about to give up hope, the phonecall came today! Yes, the frames are finally ready and he would be coming in this afternoon to fix… …The Spider-Cat Fence!! It looks neater, doesn’t it? But it would definitely be warmer now, because the polycarbonate is not air-permeable. Well, we don’t have mu...

Rooftop Rescue At Midnight
5th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

Yesterday, we had another near-heart attack. A cat was stuck on the roof outside our bedroom window. The thing was, the cat was having a good time out there on the roof. Only we were dead worried. “Bring the treats, bring the treats!”, my husband shouted from upstairs. I grabbed the jar of Halo Liv a Littles and dashed upstairs. We shook the jar. The cat heard the sound and stopped mooching on the roof. We kept shaking the jar and calling the cat. Soon, the cat came near enough for m...

Indy Is NOT Happy
4th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

Looks like the “day out compensation” wasn’t much of a compensation at all as far as Indy was concerned. Last night, he bit me. And this time he did not catch me by surprise as I entered the room. He actually came over after I had sat down, and bit my leg once, and later, he bit my hand. He’s jealous, that’s it. Reacting like a jealous child.  Watching the Patio Family…more like stalking them like a hawk. I’ll bet Tiger doesn’t know what is going...

Ending The Dog Meat Trade In Thailand (updates From Soi Dog)
4th Apr 2013, by AnimalCare

Here are some updates from Soi Dog: I wrote to you in early March with an update on the progress being made towards bringing the illegal dog meat trade to an end. In just the few short weeks since I last wrote to you even greater progress has been made with 4 more smuggling operations intercepted. For me, dogs like Nakhon, Phanom and little Bo underscore the importance of bringing this barbaric, inhumane and illegal trade to an end. Dogs are crammed 12 to a cage and their exposed limbs often c...
