Cat Uses Sign Language To Ask For Food!
9th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Peggy Quah shared this: https://www.facebook.com/video/embed?video_ id=148594428661937 It’s a “must-watch”! It has been proven time and again that our pets can learn to understand our spoken language (“come”, “sit”, “heel”, “no”, etc.) but we humans have failed miserably to understand their woofs and meows. So this cat devised her own sign language to speak with her human!

Vincent’s Swelling Has Subsided A Lot!
9th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/06/08/now-starr y-to-the-vets/ The papase enzyme (which I’m told is a natural anti-swelling remedy) is really doing a world of good for Vincent’s swollen leg. Maybe it’s also the antibiotics and the dippy in warm saline. Vincent’s swelling has gone down a lot this morning. I was up late this morning, so my husband fed everyone kibbles. Vincent was a little apprehensive in joining the rest for breakfast at the patio (when injured, any ani...

Looking For Vincent Starr
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Normally, after a traumatic experience (such as going to the vet’s coupled with having one’s paw dipped in a warm saline bath and being forcefed medicines), a cat might run away from home for a few hours, if only to teach his human a lesson for giving him so much undue stress. I went out to look for Vincent three times this evening, just to make sure he was okay. Actually he was okay even last night when he was limping. He slept on the sofa and all was well. But today, I had to go ta...

8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Lester Hiew Thiam Hock and his mum, Jenny Khong Chin Chin, are feeders of community dogs in Klang. They come under our Food Fund now so this afternoon, we sent four packs of Caliber (22.7kg) dogfood to them. This sponsorship comes from all donors through our Food Fund, Andy Lew and Kok Khee Wee. Lester and his mum, Jenny. Of course charity begins “at home”; they feed all the dogs on their road. Lester invited us for a tour to see some of his other community dogs. Look…there&...

Now, Vincent Starry To The Vet’s
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

This afternoon, we went to visit one of our Food Fund applicants, but that story will come later because after the visit as I reached home, I found Vincent Starr limping. I had already noticed him limping yesterday but thought it might be just a sprain. This afternoon, it was more than a sprain, his entire right leg was swollen. I quickly made a call to the vet’s and luckily, he was able to slot me in before closing. So, off we went, Vincent and I. A bit of on orchestra in the car, but jus...

Of Indy Joneses, Spider-Cats And Dopplegangers!!
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Oh no!!  Has Indy escaped again??!!!  Catherina sent these photos, from Melaka. I must say, the resemblance is almost uncanny!  It is a street cat at a Melaka food stall and she’s female. I assure you, it’s not Indy and that he has not teleported elsewhere, because Indy IS at home right now…. There, our Indy Jones is here. Or, is he….really? This is the third Indy look-alike we’ve seen. The first one was a street-cat in Kuchai Lama, taken by Mary to the vet fo...

Rosie Goes To The Vet
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Last night, Rosie came back with a bleeding spot right under her mouth. I cleaned it up, applied iodine on it (of course she licked it all up) and thought it wasn’t anything serious. She ate as usual so I really thought it would be nothing…until this morning when I mentioned it and a friend said she knew of a dog who had a similar bite under the mouth where the owner also thought nothing about. The dog died after one week and it was discovered that it was a snake-bite. YIKES!! So I g...

A Sharing (on What Works!)
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/06/07/our-meeti ng-with-mpsj/ Here is a sharing from a reader on what has worked for her area: I can feel your disappointment with the outcome of your meeting with the representatives of the council yesterday. It is hard to put on a brave front and carry knowing that your years of effort still hit a wall. I wasn’t exactly that disappointed because I know there is still much that we can do on our side for the animals. It is the same outcome here where we a...

Visiting Guthriephant, Raisin And Billie
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

We were in Selayang to purchase dogfood yesterday, so we dropped in to visit Andy Lew and Emily. If you remember, they adopted Baloo and Baggy from me and gave both a wonderfully happy life. Though it was short (due to congenital disease; Baggy had FeLV), but it was happy. Baloo and Baggy were Andy and Emily’s first adoption of rescued cats and that spurred them on to do more. They adopted Guthrie from the highway too, and later, three alley kittens, Raisin, Peaches and Billie, from mother...

Every Life Counts
8th Jun 2013, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/06/07/our-meeti ng-with-mpsj/ A few people have expressed their utter disappointment with the result of our meeting with MPSJ today. I know how disappointed you are, but were you really placing so much hope on getting it through? I’ve learnt to keep my hopes high but expectations at zero. That way, a disappointment will not hit you so hard and you will have the strength to (1) carry on your good work (or what you believe to be right) and (2) maybe even se...
