WHAT Are You Feeding Me Now??? 28th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I added just two pellets of the Fibor to Indy’s Fillet Plus this morning and he ate AROUND them.
But, this morning, I found him pooping at 5.30am and the stools looked “nice”! They were just slightly soft, but the colour is back to normal and it was well-formed. I think there was no mucus too and I checked – no blood! For once, no blood!!
So, could it be the Fibor doing its work? I don’t know for sure. I force-fed the Fibor at 6pm yesterday.
But I’d rather not...

CKD: Indy (stage 1), Bunny (stage 2) 27th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
We took Indy and Bunny for their urinalysis today.
Indy was also due for his once -a-week B12 jab.
The results:
Indy’s urine SG is slightly above the borderline at 1.036 (it should be above 1.035), so that is good, but his proteinurea (UPC) is AT the borderline of 0.3. This means there is a slight protein leakage.
What needs to be done for him: At this moment, nothing yet. We’ve stopped the subcut since his creatinine went down to 115. Indy’s is classified as Stage 1 CKD ...

The Raw Deal – Protein Rotation To Turkey! 27th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I had a really pleasant surprise today.
Seven out of our eight cats ate Primal Turkey!!
Previously, they didn’t quite like it except for Cow, Bunny and Tabs. They all preferred Primal Chicken & Salmon. Indeed, between the two, this flavour is the more popular one. Better in sales too.
But the MOST surprising thing is that Heidi also ate it.
Heidi?
Yes, Heidi!
She doesn’t like Primal Chicken & Salmon, but she was willing to eat the Turkey!
Amazing!
So now, we have everyon...

After recovered they will be returned to this area. In the meantime they are open for adoption too. I will provide food and medical care to them before they are adopted.

Too Much Energy, Indy Jones? 27th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
These few days, Indy seems to have too much energy!
Could it be due to the bone broth, being a “superfood”?
Anyway, having energy is a good thing, so no complaints there.
But, it has also resulted in him being very hyperactive and he’s been looking for fights with Bunny, Cow and Ginger.
He doesn’t pick on the girls, just the boys.
I’ve been letting him out to the patio to explore just to release some of that energy in him!
He took Ginger’s favourite pent-hous...

Heidi’s Addiction To NaturVet’s 26th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
It is either Heidi is addicted to NaturVet’s digestive enzymes or she actually needs the enzymes, I really don’t know.
But since Heidi knows how to choose grass to eat, I will respect her decision that she needs the enzymes.
Ever since she demanded for the enzymes, she will not eat unless some of the powder is sprinkled onto her food. And she prefers that you do not mix it up. She wants the powder on top of the food.
Tabs, on the other hand, would prefer to have some Primal sprinkl...

The Raw Deal – Protein Rotation To Rabbit 26th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I was very reluctant to try rabbit, actually.
But finally, for the sake of the cats, I relented.
Rodents are the natural food of wild cats, I know.
Chicken or rabbit – they are all animals, so I’d be a hypocrite if I placed rabbit above chicken.
Cats are obligate carnivores, like it or not. They HAVE to eat meat. Nature made them so. We have no choice.
So, I bought a 200g jar of Cubgrub Rabbit the other day and today I decided to try it on our cats. Actually, it was the story about a...

The Poop Question 25th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
An interesting video comparing cat poop: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2m70ix2 BCY4
Ever since going 100% raw, our seven cats have this dry, crumbly poop that does not smell at all (the picture on the right).
Indy is still off-and-on. When we are lucky, we get semi-firm stools from him. When not so lucky, it is soft and still a bit smelly. We’re still working on Indy’s gut-healing.
My raw-feeding friend says I’m worrying too much about Indy and passing on negative vibes...

How To Think Like A Cat 25th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
This is very interesting: https://feline-nutrition.org/the -blogs/how-to-think-like-a-cat
The peeing isn’t vindictive – that is beyond the thinking of a cat – she is simply doing something to make herself feel better. It’s not about you. Relieving herself on an object makes it smell like her. It’s comforting. She is upset and does something that makes her feel better. It’s that simple. Get it out of your head that your cat is plotting against you. They h...

Indy’s News 25th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Last night and all of yesterday, there was this ongoing tension between Indy and Bunny. It would be both taking turns to be the aggressor.
This has been going on for a few days now.
Making up after a fight.
This morning I found semi-soft stools in Indy’s spot. Semi-soft, but well-formed. That’s good enough for now.
Maybe he’s not ready to eat a full meal of Cubgrub yet. Maybe his gut still needs time to heal. So I think I will cut down on the quantity of Cubgrub and gradually ...

Saving An IBD Cat From 11000 Miles Away 25th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
The story: https://feline-nutrition.org/features/ saving-alistair-how-lyn-thomson-helped-stop-ibd-11 000-miles-away
Over the next weeks, many nauseating hours were spent in butchers’ shops and in the kitchen, simmering bones and disembowelling poultry following Lyn’s recommendations. The commitment of the all-vegetarian cattery staff was tested to the limit both by the concoctions stored in the freezer and by the ever-increasing list of instructions on Alistair’s pen. Alth...

Feline Inflammatory Bowel Disease 24th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
This sure sounds like what Indy has: https://feline-nutrition.org/health/feli ne-inflammatory-bowel-disease-nature-and-treatment
The article advises to use bone broth, which we are already doing. Indy loves the bone broth. It also advises to use probiotics, pinch by pinch. We are also doing that.
And finally, to transition to raw food.
All of the above, to heal the gut.
We are doing all that already.
From Fillet Plus, I’m gradually transitioning him back to Cubgrub Chicken.
More and...

Heidi Visits Bunny’s Place 24th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
VERY rare!
We brought her in this morning.
Bunny was sleeping and she walked right past him. Bunny didn’t know.
But he soon found out and we quickly took Heidi out.
Note: Heidi is not afraid of “lions, tigers, hippopotamuses or rhinoceroses”, she is simply terrified of Bunny.
Bunny followed the scent.
Tabs came in for breakfast and decided to stay.
Tabs has diplomatic immunity everywhere in the house.
The girls are not bothered at all.
Cow is actually okay these days. He ...

The Raw Deal – What’s Your Deal, Heidi? 24th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I don’t know if it is coincidental or what, but Heidi avoids the kitchen whenever I open a jar of Quail or Duck for Ginger.
Does the smell alone offend her so much?
Then, she will also boycott Cubgrub Chicken (her staple food) and the only thing I could get her to eat would be raw chicken fillet.
It has happened quite a few times now. Too many times to label it a coincidence!
And it would be the next day before I can successfully coax her to eat her Cubgrub Chicken again and it must be mix...

Indy’s Updates (firm Stools!) 24th Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
I found firm (well, only a teeny weeny bit soft) stools at 5.30am today. It was Indy’s for sure, because there was a tiny bit of blood in it and it was in Indy’s spot.
Yesterday, Indy had chicken fillet and Cubgrub, but separately. I noticed that if I mix the two, he will only eat the fillet and leave the Cubgrub. Maybe he just cannot take both at the same time?
Of course that makes absolutely no sense since the chicken fillet is raw and Cubgrub is also raw, but then again, Ind...

The Raw Deal – Protein Rotation: Bunny Eats Quail!! 23rd Nov 2019, by AnimalCare
Breaking news!!!
Bunny eats Cubgrub Quail!!
This is very pleasantly surprising!
Bunny totally rejected Quail the last round (a few weeks ago). It was only Ginger who ate it. Today, Bunny devoured it!
So now, we have two candidates who are eating Quail!
Hooray!
Updating the list for protein rotation:
Cow – Cubgrub Chicken, Primal Chicken Salmon, Primal Turkey, Coco&Joe Chicken
Bunny – Cubgrub Chicken, Primal Chicken, Salmon, Primal Turkey, Cubgrub Duck, Cubgrub Quail, Coco&J...
