Who Is (actually) Obese?
5th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

So we know that one way of determining whether your cat is obese or not is to look from above while the cat is standing and see if we can see an “indentation” at the abdomen. Let’s see… We’ve been debating on whether Bunny is obese or just stout… I told my vet that Bunny is just “stout”, not obese and he said I was in denial. LOL!! There IS an indentation, right? Do you see it? Now, I swear I did NOT photoshop this photograph. There IS an indent...

Mr Zurik Sir, Just One More Day To Go…(and I’ll Be Home Free!)
5th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

This evening, Mr Zurik came for an early dinner, which is good, because it means I could give him his antibiotics earlier too… There was some growling between Vincent and him in front of the gate. I had to intervene to stop it. Vincent watches. Mr Zurik ate his antibiotics (mixed in wetfood) and then he disappeared. One more day (tomorrow) and I will be home free!!

Day 9 Of Mr Zurik’s Course Of Antibiotics
5th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Mr Zurik was waiting at the patio, sitting on Timmy’s chair this morning. He jumped down when I brought out the food and he started intimidating poor Vincent. I carried Mr Zurik back onto the chair to eat, but he jumped down. He wanted to be with everyone else, I guess. I’m watching… Timmy quickly finished his food and we had to play the merry-go-round again, with me chasing him away from trying to snatch food from the others. There’s noise from the roof…it...

Cleo Makes The Snack Call…and Everybody Gets!
5th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Bunny & Friends are very smart. They have a system going. And this refers to the snack calls. They know who to send to make the calls. If they want a snack from my son, they send Bunny. If from my daughter, they send Cow. If from me, well…anyone would do. Maybe Indy? But if it’s from my husband, they send Cleo. This is how a Cleo Call works… Step 1: Look at human and whine. Step 2: Send someone to the pantry slab and start LOOKING towards the room. Look hard…until...

Please ONLY Use Standard Sized (WHITE) Envelopes With 60 Sen Stamps, Keep To The Deadline, Use The Correct Address, Etc.
5th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2012/12/08/please-us e-standard-sized-white-envelopes-60sen-stamps/ I have to repeat this again as I have been getting application forms posted in non-standard, non-white envelopes, sometimes with less than 60 sen stamps. This will result in: 1. Me, the recipient, getting taxed. 2. Your mail arriving late because you did not comply with the requirements of Pos Malaysia. Postal charges is a minimum of 60 sen, not 30 sen. The Air Mail envelope above is non-standard (...

Pandan City Furries’ TNA (Trap-Neuter-Adopt) Programme
4th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Isn’t this wonderful? A sharing by Metta Cats: https://www.facebook.com/PandanCityFurries (it’s in Johor!) If in every town or district, animal lovers get together and start something like this, many street animals will be helped. Then every town would have its own small (but well-supported) animal charity unit, something the townsfolk can be proud of. TNA (Trap-Neuter-Adopt) is the most ideal method of control for Malaysia, especially when we still have by-laws that regard free-r...

Frontlining The Patio Family
4th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

If you remember, the vet said Mr Zurik had a bad ear mite infestation and he was “Advocated” right after he was neutered (while still under anaesthesia). Unfortunately, I have a phobia of using spot-ons. This time, I opted for the time-tested Frontline. After all, Mr Zurik did not get any burn spot with Advocate. So, I applied the Frontline spot-on on Timmy, Ginger and Rosie. No struggle. I should apply it on Daffodil too as I see her scratching quite a bit, but I know it would be...

A Night Visitor At The Patio
4th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

I waited all evening but Mr Zurik did not appear. Neither did the shrews. Just when I was about to call it a night, I looked out in the patio and… Hmm…Timmy is not on his chair. There’s a tabby sitting there. Must be Vincent. Wait…it’s not Vincent… Oh gosh…hey, it’s Mr Zurik! Wait, Mr Zurik, wait…let me get you some food (laced with medicine…he he he.) Makan, silakan…makan! Everyone wanted some too. Oh well… Vincent was...

Animals Rights Vs. Animal Welfare – Which Side Are You On?
4th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Read on: http://www.care2.com/causes/animal-rights-vs- animal-welfare-which-side-are-you-on.html Or, are you on the middle path, which also isn’t wrong! I read another article, I think it was by Norm Phelps where he classifies it to “Animal Welfare” (includes bigger cages, humane slaughtering and euthanasia) and “Animal Protection” (protecting them and ensuring no harm comes to them). And how about Animal Equality: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=av22cRQN BiQ (Pet...

Ref: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/07/02/sometimes / The story continues… I received a late night text message asking when we will be giving the lady the money for the cat’s treatment. But we have not received a photo or write-up or any receipt whatsoever. I replied asking the lady to please read our policies (already sent) and that all applicants must follow procedures. She claimed the photo had already been sent to me, but I have not received any at all. I’m a little surprise...

And So, Did Mr Zurik Come Back?
4th Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

This morning, the moment I got downstairs and after I had finished feeding Bunny and Friends, I heard the sound of whining at the patio. Was it Mr Zurik?? I quickly went to take a peep… Well, hello, hello, Mr Zurik! (That’s him by the water bowl!) Yay! Welcome back to Jojo’s Outpatient Service, Mr Zurik sir. I quickly went to the fridge to take out his medicine. I cut the tablet into 5 pieces and mixed it with some wetfood as I’d done for the past 7 days. Vincent was ...

See You Again, Mr Zurik!
3rd Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

I made a judgment call today. I let Mr Zurik go. It’s been 7 days of being cooped up in the cage. His wounds had already healed beautifully and he seemed well. His urination and defecation, as well as his appetite had been good. I checked, and some vets prescribe 5 days, 7 days, 10 days or 21 days, depending on the severity of the wounds or illness. It’s Day 7 of the antibiotics. Timmy, Rosie and Daffodil were there, as usual. I gave him his antibiotics (in Monge). Hey, Mr Zurik, ...

Timmy Plays “musical Bowls” Again!
3rd Jul 2013, by AnimalCare

Old habits die hard… Timmy has gone back to playing his game of “musical bowls” again! This is when he goes from one bowl to another at mealtimes, making sure he gets a bit from everyone’s bowl, and most of the time, Daffodil, Ginger and Rosie would just step aside and let him eat. This explains, without a doubt, why he is obese. Timmy is greedy. That’s about all there is to it. He went back to playing his “musical bowls” again this morning and it was ha...
