Gerald’s Day And A Trip To The Park 20th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
There’s still the yowling, but luckily, Gerald hasn’t resorted to yowling in the middle of the night…yet.
Generally, he yowls the moment he wakes up from a nap. My vet-friend told me that for outdoor cats, they are so used to roaming after they get up, so that’s why Gerald yowls. He wants to roam.
I took him out for a trip to the park this morning.
Harness off once we are in the middle of the park.

Updates On Sun Sun (from Lee Kim Hai) 20th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Sun Sun’s case had been very baffling. Three days after being spayed, she had fever and appeared to be weak, Mdm Lee took her to the vet and it was diagnosed as mastitis. Medication was given and the prognosis was good.
But soon after discharge, she bit off her sutures and had to be sent back for re-suturing. Then, after being home, she fell sick again. This time it looked more serious. There was occasional fever, ataxia (walking like a “drunkard”, as described by Mdm Lee), gen...

Tabs Is So Comfortable Now 19th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
After getting the cream for that red spot and the ear lotion, Tabs has been visibly and definitely more comfortable.
No more rubbing her head on Tupperware containers since then too. And she’s been taking long naps as well.
Tabs and Riley, relaxing in the kitchen.

Gerald And The Blondies’ Feeding Challenge 19th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
It’s getting to be even harder to feed the Blondies with Gerald’s influence.
Gerald, unlike the Monsters, is also a very picky eater. One would think that being an outdoor cat, he would eat anything that’s served? Not true.
Because I have to stop Gerald’s early morning yowling the moment I wake up or come downstairs, I have to quickly feed him first. And because of this, I have decided to change my schedule to feeding Blondies as well, but it isn’t working. The Blon...

Tabs To The Vet’s (balding Problem) 18th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
So I took Tabs to the vet’s this afternoon to get her checked.
The red round spot looked rather suspicious, so the vet did a scraping to check under the microscope. Only 1 fungal spore was found. But I had also made the mistake of bathing Tabs this morning so I might have cleaned off the traces of spores.
So to be a sure, the vet plucked out some hair from this red spot and some other spots and did a fungal culture. We will know the results in 3-4 days.
The vet also checked Tabs&rsqu...

Tabs’ Balding And Her Medicated Bath 18th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Tabs has started balding again. It is almost a once-a-year issue for her previously.
Last year, she didn’t have it, though. When she used to, the problem was usually resolved using Advocate spot-on for 2-3 months consecutively.
But this time, the bald spots are all located at the subcut needle pricks. So she has small bald spots all over her body where I prick the needle for subcut.
I’ve made an appointment for her to see the vet today, but this morning, I gave her a bath with Pyo-He...

Gerald’s Yowling 18th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald’s yowling was pretty bad yesterday.
It is very, very stressful.
I spoke with my vet-friend about it and her views are practical and realistic. She agrees that not all cats are happy living indoors and the yowling is not only stressful to humans, but also to our other cats. That is a factor I have to consider too and I’m aware of it. The bottom line is, we do the best we can, and that’s all we can do.
I am aware that there will always be different points of view on this, ...

Fearing The Worst – BBQ Pit Found At Industrial Area 17th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Hi, it’s JoTong here.
Last weekend both Uncle Wong and I were searching high and low for Mama Jalan 8 whom we had spayed on 12th December 2023. We had not seen her for almost a week. Mama Jalan 8 was an abandoned female dog and she was a very skittish dog. She is also a lonesome dog and would only hide under the same car everyday. She also did not mix with other dogs in the same area where she roams.
After almost a week, on Wednesday 10th July 2024 evening, Uncle Wong saw her coming out fo...

Gerald And His Pillow 17th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald knows how to enjoy a pillow! This is one of his deep-sleep naps where he doesn’t even wake up when I walk around the bed. He has taken the bed, so Samantha and the girls have to sleep elsewhere.
All our other cats would open their eyes when someone is near. Not Gerald. He sleeps very soundly. That’s rather unusual for a street cat, isn’t it?
We will never know Gerald’s background and there is no way of finding out too.
We can only move on forward.
The post Gerald...

Gerald And His Special Spot 16th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
It was raining this morning, so Gerald did not get his trip out to the park. He whined.
The whining is on the increase and I am not sure what to make of it. Maybe he’s just tired of being confined and he wants his freedom again.
Here he is, this morning. He’s the only cat who likes these small cat box-houses in the cat trees.
And he loves to play with the string toys.
This morning, Gerald boycotted raw food, so everyone followed him. Sigh.
I had to give him canned food, and the re...

Gardening And Remembering Misty Fondly 15th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
It’s been a week since Misty’s accident.
There hasn’t been a moment that I did not think of her and miss her. As much as I keep myself occupied, I am still constantly thinking of her.
It was difficult to take a walk in the morning, but I had to. Part of the reason is that I am on a three-month experiment to check if walking can boost my HDL which is essential for my health, but part of it is also that I have to try and change my perspective, from missing Misty waiting for me at...

Gerald’s Trip To The Park And His Bath 15th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald knows how to demand for a trip to the park – he yowls nonstop.
Off-leash in the middle of the park.
Gerald loves playing at this gazebo in the middle of the park. He jumps from slab to slab and rolls on the concrete.
He doesn’t go far from me. Let’s hope he stays this way. We spent a long time at the park today because the weather was very nice this morning.
Back home safely.
I noticed Gerald’s has a bit of alopecia again. It’s symmetrical on both sides o...

Gerald’s Day Of Yowling 14th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Today has been a day of yowling for Gerald.
And frankly, I’m quite drained out.
Could it be because it’s the weekend and he thinks he needs an entire day out?
Even after the morning romp in the park, he wasn’t satisfied. He’d take a nap, then the moment he wakes up, he starts yowling again. Sitting with him also doesn’t work.
So, finally, I didn’t know what else to do but to just let him be and hope the neighbours would not complain.
Gerald doesn’t real...

Gerald Insisted On Going Out (but Only To The Park) 14th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
Gerald was yowling till no end this morning. I was afraid that after being confined for 4 days, he’d had enough and wanted to be free again.
Even sitting with him in the room did not help. He kept yowling. So I had to take him out. I didn’t have time to take him out yesterday because we had some construction work going on in the porch.
Here we are. But I know, no cat likes being harnessed. So I gave him some freedom once we were in the middle of the park.
Go have some fun time...

A Very Kind Malaysian Bus Driver 13th Jul 2024, by AnimalCare
My son, Jia-Wen, was coming home by bus early this morning and he noticed something very heart-warming.
The bus driver, a Malay man, stopped the bus, got down and went an open grassy area. Then, a pack of happy dogs came running to him. He fed the dogs and then, got back into the bus to continue the journey.
What a very, very kind man. May he be blessed manifold for his compassion.
We definitely need more Malaysians like him.
Kudos to you, Abang.
This photo was taken before the pack of dogs cam...
