A (motorised) Bug Invades Bunny’s Place!
3rd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

A friend sent me a toy bug for the cats to play with. It’s actually a motorised bug, powered by a watch battery. It’s called “Wild Mouse”, but it looks more like a cockroach to me! According to the picture, even if it falls on its back, it will turn over by itself! COOL!! As with everything new that is brought in, our quality assurance supervisor must run a check first. It’s a bug alright…just not a cockroach, because it has so many legs. It’s an ALIE...

However, because she is unable to foster dogs, she foresaw that she would need to board the dogs after the surgery so that they can recover before releasing them back to the colony. Since we could not cover boarding under our policy, we blogged this news (link above) and Dr Alida Ma...

2nd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Mr Zurik has been coming for food twice a day, and each time, he would announce his visit by going on the aggressive with Vincent. But today, I heard a different yet familiar sound. Something told me that Willy must be back. I quickly went out to check and yes! Willy was sitting at the culvert waiting for me! I haven’t seen Willy for more than a week now. Hi Willy!! He looks good. How was your assignment this time, Willy? Willy’s friends came out to celebrate his return. Yes, ...

A New Shrew On The Block?
2nd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

This shrew has been coming to the patio quite a bit and I’ve never been able to take his photo as he is just so fast, but today, he decided to make himself VERY visible to everyone. Tabs is usually the first to notice any intruder and she usually chases them away. I think to her, it’s all a game. Bunny approaches but I call him back in a calm manner, urging him to leave Mr Shrew alone. Cleo watches. I must say, this Mr Shrew is really brave, isn’t he? Bunny stops in his trac...

A Simple-To-Make Green (but Very Filling) Breakfast
2nd Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Hi everyone, It’s Meatless Monday again!! Here’s a sharing on how you can actually adopt a meatless breakfast every day. It’s what I eat every morning and this breakfast is so power-packed, even after standing and teaching for 4 hours straight (includes walking fast to the next classroom), I am still full by lunch time, so a light lunch would suffice. And if you opt for a veggie lunch (since you are not that hungry anyway), you can already adopt a half-day meatless diet every s...

Brief Encounters Of The Peaceful Kind
1st Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

When I first started doing rescue work, my vet always reprimanded me for allowing new rescues to mix with my own cats. At that time, we were living in the old house and there was no proper way of confining my cats. So, sometimes, all hell broke loose, but luckily (for everyone), there were no calamities resulting from the transmission of any diseases. There should be at least a 2 week quarantine period, my vet would remind me. I think that involves a 3-metre radius or more, I cannot remember as ...

At The Catnip Nursery
1st Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Tabs is the self-appointed guardian of the Catnip Nursery. She takes her job very seriously. But hey, even security guards doze off sometimes…. But only we think she is sleeping…(she’s actually not!). Nope, nobody gets past the catnip without going through me! Tabs whacks Tiger on the nose (missed the shot!). But I want some too! We have proper procedures. Please fill up a form and wait in line. And while Tiger is filling up the form, Indy was already making a racket at...

Heidi’s Taiqi
1st Sep 2013, by AnimalCare

Every morning starts with the taiqi master (Dame Heidi) and the student crossing the road over to the basketball court. “Dame” she may be, but she jumps up onto the playground with no problems at all. The master locates a suitable spot and instructs the student to do his lesson there.  The master watches closely as the student does his warm-up. Today, I am given the privilege of watching a lesson in session. “We have press coverage today”, the master tells the stud...

The Sunny Cats!! (from Rozita Halim)
31st Aug 2013, by AnimalCare

If you’ve been following this blog, you might remember the Sunny Kittens! They were rescued by a student when they were left in a box by the roadside in KL. The kittens were brought to me and we (meaning Bobby, all the cats and me) fostered them until they were ready for adoption. I called them the Sunny Kittens because they were such a joyful lot and every day, there would be a new adventure for them. They were especially close to Uncle Bobby. Here’s strolling down memory lane to 20...
