Hi Dr Chan,
I emailed you earlier this year regarding kittens up for adoption. Since there were no takers, I decided to just care for them but unfortunately my other neighbours have also started to complain about them. There are claims that the...

Tabs On Tuesday Morning 8th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
Last night, Tabs asked to be let back into Bunny’s Place. I guess there’s no place like home. So I let her in. There was absolutely no antagonism from anyone.
She wanted to use the litter box.
She sat on this shelf.
And went up to the penthouse for the night.
This morning I found her sleeping comfortably on her “editor’s chair”, next to mine, when I came downstairs.
Tabs was interested in food, but after sniffing all kinds of foods (Natural Balance, Monge, P...

Tabs Is Home! 7th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
The clinic was unusually (or usually?) busy today, so we had to wait all day before getting Tabs’ blood test results. Blood was taken from her femoral and jugular to do a complete blood profile.
Meanwhile, this morning when I reached the clinic, Tabs had already defecated….a lot, but she hid it all covered up inside the towel and funnily, neither the vet nor I smelled it until I started cleaning up her cage. I checked the faeces – it was all completely normal and there was NO h...

Tabs’ Temperature Is Normal!! 7th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
I am writing this from my phone as I know everyone is waiting for good news. Tabs’ temperature is 39.44 degrees which is NORMAL!! She defecated lots too. No diarrhoea. All normal. No hairball at all.
Her vet wants to do a full blood profile to be on the safe side and advised one more night on drips.
Tabs is very perky today and says THANK YOU to all the aunties and uncles who prayed hard for her recovery.
I am very deeply touched by your caring and concern. Thank you very much, dearest fri...

Tiger Looks For Tabs 7th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
It’s probably anthropomorphising, but Tiger went berserk yesterday, squeezed out of the grille and dashed around the living room, looking for something or someone.
I think Tiger was looking for Tabs as both of them are very close.
So, how do you explain it to an animal that his best friend is in hospital and won’t be back yet, but not to worry, as his best friend is safe.
You can’t.
We can say it in our language, in our thoughts, and only hope that they will somehow understand....

Tabs In Hospital – Day 2 6th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
I reached the clinic at 9.30am this morning. As I approached her cubicle, I saw her sitting down facing the wall (that means she is angry). When I called her, she looked in front and her face lighted up immediately. She wanted to come out of the cage, so I let her out and she sat on my lap immediately.
She seemed so much more perky today so I was sure she had no more fever.
I brought her food up and managed to feed her 50ml of the blended ID. She was hungry!
That’s a mirror – watch...

The IVU World Vegfest – Day Two 5th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
Today was Day Two. Connie assured me she would be able to man the booth by herself as I had to be at the clinic with Tabs. Thankfully, Kelly Lim offered to help out and Lester was able to help too. Thank you so much!
Here are some photos sent by Connie and Lester:
Kelly Lim
There were people who came back to buy more soap (after buying one piece to try yesterday).
Some came to get more books too.

Tabs Is Hospitalised 5th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
I was duly shocked this morning when we arrived at the (4th) vet. I had already emailed him the X-Rays and all the details. This vet does not think it is hairball at all.
Tabs’ temperature was taken and it was very high – 41.24 degrees. That’s very, very high, indicative of some infection. So an ear-prick blood sample was taken and it showed the presence of “band cells”.

These are immature white blood cells produced by the bod...

Subsidy Payouts – Please Wait Until Monday 5th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
I have not had the time to collect the claim forms yesterday as by the time we reached home after the Vegfest event, it was already 8pm. It looks like I will only be able to collect your application forms on Monday (if I cannot make it today). Please don’t worry about the deadline as we know when the forms arrived at the postbox.
Please wait until Monday for the subsidy payouts. Sorry for any inconvenience caused.
Thank you.

The 41st IVU World Vegfest – Day One 5th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
It was just Connie and me manning the booth yesterday. The crowd wasn’t so big, so it was manageable. Also, it was a very different crowd – vegetarians and vegans, and there were food stalls and vegan stalls which was the main attraction.
There were foreigners too.
And even though I was worried sick about Tabs and making phonecalls home to check (my husband was looking after her) and phonecalls to numerous vets to ask for possible diagnoses, the show has to go on for AnimalCar...

Taking Tabs To See A 4th Vet Today 5th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
Thank you, everyone, for your suggestions and concern.
It is 5am now and there is still no defecation from Tabs.
I gave the pumpkin last night. It did not work.
I also consulted the 2nd vet who did the X-Ray again and he said that though there is faecal matter in her intestines, she was not constipated yet, so it did not warrant an enema. He said to give it about 3 more days, and if there is no improvement, Tabs may have to be put on drips. He also suggested an esophagal feeding tube (inserted t...

Tabs Needs A 3rd Opinion 4th Oct 2013, by AnimalCare
Thank you, everyone, for your advice, suggestions and concern for Tabs.
We still have to force-feed her but she eats the food willingly. She is alert; just not as active. But there is still no defecation.
Based on the X-Ray, another vet seems to think it may not be hairball but something more complicated which may require surgery.
We will be taking her for a 3rd opinion tomorrow.
Praying for the best.
