“Mama, Let’s Go For A Walk At Padang Assam” (helping AnimalCare’s Friend) 5th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Dear Friends,
I am making a personal appeal here to help a friend of AnimalCare, Mr Edward Lim Kwan Kean, who helped us raise funds during Jon Tham’s cycling event last year. Edward, his wife, Vivienne Ngiu (who is also my ballet teacher) and their son, Chevaston, were travelling along the Seremban highway on their family vacation on New Year’s Eve when a dog suddenly dashed onto the road and Edward had to swerve to avoid hitting the dog.
Their car overturned and Vivienne is now in c...

The Difference Between CNRM And TNR (republishing) And Please Be Honest 5th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
This article was first published in April 2019. We are republishing it as a gentle reminder to all applicants that our neutering and vaccination aid is only for those who practise One-Street CNRM, with particular emphasis on the C=Care and M=Manage components.
Here is the article again (with some additional remarks):
We would like to distinguish the difference between what we promote, ie. CNRM and what is sometimes done by certain rescuers, ie. TNR.
The short version: CNRM means you continue loo...

Pole And Ginger’s Updates 4th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
I should have updated earlier, but this time, I was really busy!
Pole stopped having the frequent urge to urinate on that very afternoon itself! From previous experience (including my own), that is normally the case. The pain of UTI is excruciating, but with antibiotics, the problem normally resolves in less than a day.
I also took Ginger to the vet on that same day and managed to learn a bit more about Pole’s UTI. I was told earlier that cats on subcut may get UTI more easily (at the emer...

Ginger To Vet’s (Bushy White Got Him, After All) 2nd Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Soon after coming back from the emergency vet visit with Pole, Ginger had tearing in his right eye and it was red and swollen.
So, it’s off to the vet’s for the second time today – this time, to our regular vet.
Ginger was examined thoroughly. His third eyelid is nipped. So, Bushy White got to him, after all. There are also scratches on his neck and pinhole punctures on his head.
Since he is FIV+, the vet says it would be better to put him on antibiotics, so Clavamox it is. Plu...

Pole Has UTI Again (an “emergency”) 2nd Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Pole had UTI on 31st July 2019.
This morning, she was active as usual, but did not want to eat at all. For Pole, that means something is not right.
Then, I noticed her squatting many times. There was no urine.
That’s classic UTI.
It was 6am and the vets are still closed, but I recently found out about the 24-hour vet hospital nearby, so I called and confirmed there is a vet there.
Since I’ve had UTI before and I know how excruciating the pain is, I decided to rush Pole there even tho...

Ginger Is Okay 2nd Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
I should have updated yesterday, actually, but yesterday was a busy day for us.
Ginger is alright. I had feared that he may have lost in the fight with Bushy White on New Year’s Eve, but my fears were, thankfully, unfounded.
It’s more than 24 hours now and there are no visible signs of any injury or any fever. His appetite is good (as long as it’s exotic meats, that is).
All appears to be normal.
Yesterday he was standing (sitting?) guard at Stargate2.
Bushy White has not been...

A New Year’s Eve Close Shave (with Ginger) 31st Dec 2019, by AnimalCare
This story begins from this morning when Jia-Wen and Sihui had already left for the hospital and I was waiting for my husband to get up so that we could go too.
I hadn’t slept all night last night, either due to being too excited that the baby was coming today (our first grandchild) or the iced lemon tea I had drunk had too much caffeine in it. I think it was the latter. In any case, I could not sleep all night. That is why the previous posts were written at 3am last night – I ...

Thank You Very Much (December 2019 Donors) 31st Dec 2019, by AnimalCare
Time really does fly and it’s already the end of 2019!
As always, we wish to thank all donors and supporters who have made it possible for us to continue helping animals. We look forward to 2020 with optimism and hope that more individuals will embrace the practice of One-Street CNRM as this would be the most compassionate and sustainable method to stabilise street animal colonies while ensuring that the neutered animals are well cared for. Please remember to keep it small and manageable s...

The Naughty One 30th Dec 2019, by AnimalCare
Guess who?
It’s Indy. He’s been very mischievous all day.
Bunny and Pole were already fast asleep.
He put his paws up on the bench and disturbed them.
Earlier on, Bunny was asleep on the chair beside me. Indy did the same again – put his paws up on the chair and stared at Bunny until “the stare” woke Bunny up and a war crying episode ensued.
Go to sleep, Indy…
