Tiger Day 4 And The Unexpected Water Disruption
10th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

Today is Day 4 for Tiger being on medication. I spread the medication out throughout the day so that it won’t be so taxing on Tiger…and me! He is let out of the cage in the morning for breakfast and also, so that he can run a bit and stretch, but this is also medicine time. He knows all the “signs” so he runs and hides. This calls for a lot of patience and coaxing, but it helps that once I manage to catch him, it’s easy to feed him the medicine.  Gentle Tiger doe...

Tiger’s Quiet Afternoon Upstairs
8th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

After coming back from the vet’s, I guess two days of traveling to the vet’s had taken quite a stressful toll on Tiger. So, after I gave him his medicines, he fled upstairs. Since there is no other cat inside the house, I let him stay upstairs and he was there for 4 hours before I finally brought dinner upstairs for him. He just stayed under the sofa the whole time. Dinner! Then, it was medicine time again. Tiger tried to run away, but slowly, I coaxed him to take his medicine. Luc...

Tiger Gets RetroMAD1 (Day 2)
8th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

Connie came over to fetch me to the clinic where I hoped Tiger will qualify for the RetroMAD1. The vet was really nice and kind. He explained that not all sporo cats make it despite treatment and one’s best efforts. Tiger, being FIV-positive for so many years also means that his immunity is already significantly compromised, so this does not work to Tiger’s favour. However, judging from the looks of the wounds, the sporo is still in its early stages. And as with the previous vet, thi...

Trying To “explain” The Situation To The PatioCats
7th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

The PatioCats are all worked up and anxious too. They don’t understand why they are not allowed to come into the house (because Tiger has to be quarantined). Ginger is visibly upset. So are Heidi and Vincent. So I had to spend some time with Ginger to let him know that I am not neglecting him or punishing him for anything (by not allowing him into the house). The most effective way to lure them out to the patio is to give them food, but they are not fooled for long. In fact, Heidi sneak...

Tiger Has Sporo Wounds On 3 Of His Limbs
7th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

We did not see the other wounds earlier in the afternoon. Tiger has sporo wounds on both his hind legs and his left front paw. I don’t know how long the wounds have appeared as the ones on the hind legs are on the inside of the legs and are hard to notice. In any case, we only detected the wounds today and are already doing all we can with the medication and supplements. Treating sporotrichosis usually takes weeks or even months, so we are going for the long haul. Tomorrow, we will try and...

Tiger Has Sporotrichosis
7th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare

This afternoon, my daughter, Ming-Yi noticed a few wounds on Tiger’s left front paw. It looked quite mild and I hadn’t noticed it before this, but I wasted no time in taking him to the vet’s. The vet too thought it looked like “lick wounds” but they are definitely not bite wounds, though.  It looked like something erupting from inside and Tiger had licked it. But of course, the vet did not rule out sporotrichosis though he doubt it would be as it didn’t look ...
