Tiger Day 13 – Sunbathing At The Clubhouse! 19th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
For two nights now, Tiger goes into his condo at about 9.30pm all by himself. And we don’t have to close the door until we go to sleep upstairs. He goes up to the highest platform and will not come down until the next morning when he starts calling us at 6.30am.
Hmm…good sleeping habits, I must say.
And he loves sitting on top of the water dispenser.
Yes, we are under the 2-day water rationing exercise, but we are managing well with enough storage for drinking and washing.
Happy T...

The black-and-white team was at work this morning.
Cow and Indy, who are you spying on?
Bunny was providing secondary assistance only. He was not at the front line.
But soon, Bunny came to help decipher whatever intelligence the black-and-whites may have obtained…
WHO are you all spying on??
Oh, I see….it’s Timmy Thompson!!

The Face….at Work 18th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
“The Face” = Pole’s face when asking for food.
So, while Tiger, Rosie and Ginger were enjoying their second helping of Royal Canin kibbles, of course the inside cats knew instantly what was going on in the kitchen.
The moment I entered the room, I was greeted by….
The Face
How it works: Just keep staring, the human will buckle, for sure.
But I was busy taking her photo, so she thought she should do more. After all, it’s for Royal Canin, you know. It’s WORT...

Tiger Day 12 18th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
After a long day at today’s event, I am happy to share that most of Tiger’s sporo sores are getting dry. All except the stubborn ones on the left front paw. When I came home, these were rather inflamed. Tiger had probably been licking them again.
Other than that, everything else is fine.
Sitting on his favourite chair, after being on the e-collar for one-and-a-half hours after application of Lamisil cream.
Ginger accompanying Tiger, as usual, but this time, Rosie had also come in.

Animal Awareness Day At Universiti Malaya (18th March 2014) 18th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Today’s the day!
The ever-helpful Universiti Malaya students were on hand to help us.
Thank you very much for giving us this opportunity to share with the audience about what One-Street CNRM is all about.
Dr Vellayan telling the audience about exotic pets, which species can be neutered and which should not be. It was really interesting to note that for some species, only the males should be neutered while for some, only the females. And for some, though they are kept as exotic pets, th...

Goodnight, Sleep Well, Tiger And Heidi! 17th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
This evening, after the rain, Tiger went into the condo all by himself.
See? The door is wide open.
Initially, Tiger had a problem jumping down from this platform. He knew how to go up, but not come down. So I would have to remove the platform in order to open the top door for him to come out! He simply couldn’t figure it out by himself (but now he can). Well, Tiger is not Indy, right? Indy would be able to wiggle himself out of anything and anywhere.
He seemed very happy in the condo. I...

In Loving Memory Of Kit Kat – She Fought Cancer And Finished The Race 17th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Below is a sharing from Judy Chua. We offer our deepest condolences to Judy and her sister on the demise of Kit Kat, and salute them both for seeing Kit Kat through her difficult period coping with advancing cancer and giving Kit Kat so much love and palliative care.
Judy’s experience further strengthens our stand that just as we would care for our human relatives until the very end, we can do the same for our animal-friends too.

Tiger Day 11 17th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Today is Day 11 of Tiger’s sporo treatment. Breakfast was as usual, and Tiger’s appetite was really good. He had seconds and thirds. He needs all this nutrition to help him heal as we are looking at long-term administration of Sporonox which can be harmful.
E-collar on after application of the Lamisil cream.
Tabs kept Tiger company.
Bunny too.
Indy too, in his own way.
And Cow as well.
Cow & Bunny may bully Tiger, but when it comes to the crunch, hey, they have been brother...

Tiger’s Day 10 Sores 16th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
I managed to keep the e-collar on Tiger for 45 minutes or more today, so that’s quite an achievement. Tiger didn’t seem so stressed out with the collar today. However, he still licks feverish once the collar is taken out. It’s almost as though he has to groom himself once that dratted foreign body is taken off him!
I didn’t want to stress him out further by taking photos of his sores. He has more or less learnt that the very sight of the camera means he will be handled, a...

Tiger And Ginger – Best Of Friends 16th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
It’s often that difficult times create good and meaningful friendships. With Tiger being quarantined in the living room and we are looking at no less than 6 weeks of quarantine (for sporotrichosis), Ginger has taken it upon himself to be Tiger’s good friend….from a safe distance, of course.
When Tiger is in the cage, Ginger sits nearby. But when both are free, I have to monitor them closely and ensure that there is a safe distance between them.
Tiger taking an evening n...

Does Posting Bad News Do Any Good? 16th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
This is not about all the rumour-mongering and speculative posts that have flooded the social media over the sad and mysterious disappearance of MH370. Rather, this is about the many posts on animal welfare that we see on the social media, including this blog, on a daily basis.
You might have noticed that we seldom post news about the horrific and abusive things that people do to animals per se. Especially when the news is to lament, complain and criticise. For example, “Oh my gosh, look a...

Tiger Day 10 16th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
We are now using the e-collar on Tiger before applying the Lamisil cream to prevent him from licking the cream and his sores. Then, we leave the e-collar on for 30 minutes before taking it off.
Of course Tiger doesn’t like it and is stressed though he just sits quietly in his cage.
But the moment the e-collar is taken off, he licks all his sores feverishly. So feverishly, that the sores become inflamed. I wonder whether it’s because he hates the cream (being something foreign on his ...

Tiger Day 9 – The Effect Of The Lamisil Cream 15th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
From what I’ve seen so far, if the sporo sores are detected early (which means on the same day they appear), application of the Lamisil cream seems to be able to shrink and dry them really fast. This is assuming that it’s the cream that’s doing the work. Of course, we cannot be sure of this.
But granted, sporotrichosis is a deep muscle infection and the sores erupt from “inside” so the cream or anything that is applied externally probably only addresses the external...
