Tiger Day 18 24th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
This morning I was really pleased to see that Tiger’s left hind leg sores seemed to have shrunken. At least they appeared to be so to the naked eye.
After Lamisil cream this morning.
After an hour on the e-collar.
Ginger has become Tiger’s best friend now.
Getting some healing sun.
It’s been really, really hot today!
And Tiger seems to want the sunshine.
Good for him!
Left front paw (this evening).
Left hind leg (this morning).
A close-up of the leg hind leg (this ...

The Day Pole Fell Down 24th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, I heard a loud noise in the room.
When I rushed in, I saw Pole and her pillow had fallen down from the top shelf onto the shelf below it. I am not sure how that happened but I think cat and pillow both fell backwards against the wall, from one shelf onto the other.
Pole looked really upset and was trying her best to “recover” and maintain her calm poise and balance.
Sobs..I fell down…
Never mind, Pole. It’s okay to slip and fall down once in a while.
Looks li...

Another Round Of Silvervine Mania! 24th Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
It’s been three days since we sewed our very own silvervine pillows with scraps of cloth and everyone had a gala time: http://myanimalcare.org/2014/03/21/an-after noon-of-silvervine-mania/.
Today, a reader ordered a few packs of silvervine from us and I had to secretly and discreetly pack them again…alas, nothing escapes the noses of our cats. They soon came trooping in…
So, I thought it only fair to “refresh” their pillows.
Now refreshing by rubbing some silvervin...

Tiger Day 17 23rd Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Today, I decided two times on the e-collar for the Lamisil may be too stressful for Tiger because even after 45 minutes on the e-collar, the moment the collar is removed, he licks all the sores feverishly and they get inflamed.
Moreover, the instructions on the tube say “once a day” only. Better keep to the dosage and don’t go too aggressively, especially when the cream has toxic ingredients. In any case, I use very little of the cream on Tiger’s sores.
So today, I appl...

I wonder if this cream might help Tiger since it uses edible oils.

Chemosynthetic Livers May Save Countless Lab Animals 22nd Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Scientists have found a way to develop “fake livers” which can be used for the testing of human drugs. Hopefully this will no longer necessitate the use of lab animals in time to come.
…after giving an animal a test drug, the experimental compound does its designated job in the body until the liver breaks it down. Then researchers try to detect the resulting, minute amounts of molecular byproducts, or metabolites. It’s these metabolites that are often responsible for causing ...

Timmy Vs Vincent In The Battle For Food! 22nd Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
It was dinner time and everyone had finished their food.
Timmy had his dinner in the cage, and he was let out after that.
But as always, there are scraps in some bowls and Vincent was licking up the scraps.
Timmy did his “Timmy thing”.
He would sit close enough and stare.
Just keep staring long enough and surely the cat will move away…it never fails.
So, Timmy stared…
And stared.
Minutes passed….Vincent grew quite uncomfortable.
And turned away.
Oooh….yes, i...

Tiger Day 16 22nd Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
Grooming himself from head to toe, after breakfast.
After all his medicines, it is time for Lamisil cream and the e-collar.
Right paw – the two sores are almost all gone!
The one on the tail.
The hip sore.
The above are all the new sores which appeared while under medication – they seem to heal fast.
Now, comes all the stubborn ones which had already existed for sometime before we knew Tiger had sporo. The photos were taken at different times throughout the day.
The Gang of Fou...

A Comic About Love 22nd Mar 2014, by AnimalCare
While this comic is not directly applicable to animal caregiving work, still, we can relate it, somehow.
Sometimes, I receive emails from caregivers who have suffered a tragic loss of a rescued animal, and they vow that there is “no point” in doing rescue and caregiving work anymore. They want to give up so that they will not suffer another broken heart.
Well, we hope this comic will inspire all caregivers who have suffered loss to carry on. Your next rescue might just give you so mu...
