Heidi’s Updates 5th Feb 2020, by AnimalCare
It looks like Heidi is on the mend.
As of yesterday, she started eating again, though not as much as she usually does.
But she is back to her usual habits, so that is definitely a good sign.
She came to the door to greet me when I came home from work.
She is here, at her herb stash.
We planted her herbs (weeds) at the patio so that she need not follow us out to the park anymore to get her herbs from there.
Waiting for food, at her usual place (a VERY good sign).
I know that whenever she doesn...

Zoonoses And Disease Outbreak 5th Feb 2020, by AnimalCare

Some excerpts:
Following China’s official announcement linking the virus to Wuhan’s wildlife markets, social media was rife with comments such as “Why can’t they just be civilised and eat domestic farmed animals like the rest of us?”, “Serves them right for eating endangered animals instead of animals raised for food!”, an...

Heidi’s One-Day Scare For Us 4th Feb 2020, by AnimalCare
Yesterday morning, I found vomit consisting of digested food and hairball in the living room. It was Heidi’s.
Heidi occasionally has hairball regurgitation. This has been happening for a long time. Her stools are also occasionally a little “wet”, not as dry as the rest of the cats’. I know she has a bit of stomach issues so when she has this vomiting problem, I give her Omeprazole and it always does the trick.
So, yesterday, I gave her Omeprazole again. For breakfast, she...

Meat Chunks As A Dental Treat 1st Feb 2020, by AnimalCare
I was asking advice from my raw-feeding friend today regarding Pole’s tartar problem. I would do whatever it takes as long as she does not have to undergo scaling.
The advice was to give her Orozyme twice a day of which I am already doing AND to give her meat chunks to chew on. In fact, all of our cats should be given meat chunks. I was given the following alternatives:
(1) Chicken feet
(2) Chicken necks
(3) Chicken wingtip
(4) Chicken buttocks
(5) Beef cubes
(6) Lamb cubes
No pork –...

Who Is On Duty Tonight? 1st Feb 2020, by AnimalCare
The Cow Clan functions in such a way that at any time, one cat will do sentry duty, to guard the place from possible intruders or worse, invaders!
Tonight….
The Royal Guards are asleep (rare for both to be asleep at the same time).
Pole is sitting with me. Quite rare too. By the way, she finished her Clavamox today. She’s been eating well.
The Queen and her leg, as always.
Bunny is on sentry duty tonight (very rare too)!

Pole’s News 31st Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, I finally managed to get Pole to eat her raw food again. Maybe enough time has passed for her to associate the smell of Cubgrub and Coco&Joe’s with the pain in her mouth.
She will finish her antibiotics today and since she is able to eat normally, I don’t think a trip to the vet’s is necessary at this juncture.
Meanwhile, I am giving Pole Orozyme 1-2 times daily with the hope that it can soften the tartar.

Pole Dictates The Menu 28th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Pole has created a bit of a upset in the menu at Bunny’s Place.
Because she could not eat Coco&Joe or Cubgrub last week and due to the diagnosis that she had tartar which caused her inability (or unwillingness) to eat, I had to resort to giving her the thoroughly blended (and thoroughly delicious) Recovery and AD.
Oh, she absolutely loves these two canned food and surprise, surprise, she also loves something else….

A New CNY Cat Tree! 27th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
The last cat tree was completely destroyed by the Cow Clan.
So, we saw this in a shop yesterday and bought it primarily for Heidi because Heidi uses our rattan dining chairs as her scratching posts. All six of them, too.
Surprisingly, it was Tabs who first went for it. And being as heavy as she is, she completely flattened the “bridge”. We later nailed it back.
Heidi: What is this? A replacement for my six scratching posts??…which I have used for years? It sure took you pret...

Eat! But Not Too Much. 27th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Here’s my (as always) very simple Chinese New Year “hoi lin” (welcoming the year, on the 2nd day of CNY) lunch.
First and foremost, an inspection by Tabs.
I cooked everything except for the Lou Sang which was compliments of Ming-Yi and Yui Ping.
This raw salad is from a Myanmar recipe (by word of mouth). Everything is raw. My first time trying – and I have now forgotten what I added into it! LOL! But everyone loved it, so live in the moment, folks! You canno...

Michael Pollan’s Food Rules 26th Jan 2020, by AnimalCare
Again, in the wake of the Wuhan Corona Virus epidemic which has claimed many lives now, the world has been told that the outbreak originated from a live food market in Wuhan.
Not meaning to downplay the severity of the growing outbreak, it might do humans well to take heed of Michael Pollan’s Food Rules.
