A Ribbon, A Box And A Lot Of Fun (Minnie & Smurfy) 21st Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
A mark of protest, from Minnie.
Of course I totally understand that a free spirit like Minnie would not want to be confined in a cage. But having said that, I must give credit to both Minnie and Smurfy for being incredibly well-behaved. There was no complaints, no mewing last night. They used the litter box, ate their food (the Coco&Joe’s and left the kibble – how very clever!).
In short, they are very well-behaved.
I am still trying to figure out HOW Minnie escaped during Ops S...

Managed To Pill Minnie! 20th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
It was later in the evening that Minnie and Smurfy finally ate some Coco&Joe’s. They didn’t want the afternoon food even though it was kept in the fridge. They wanted fresh food.
Smurfy ate first (of course).
Then, Minnie ate and it was time to give her her Clavamox. It’s twice a day.
I carried her out and she did not resist or try to escape. I opened her mouth and plonked the pill it!
Success!!
Imagine this….and I still cannot pill Pole and Cleo!
Earlier on, I laid ...

Minnie And Smurfy Are HOME!!! 20th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
Minnie’s liver readings came down a little today, so she and Smurfy can come home!!
Actually Smurfy is only there to accompany Minnie. There’s nothing wrong with him. Smurfy received his first vaccination today and I opted for him to have the FeLV vaccination as well.
Smurfy’s vaccination card!
Minnie’s ALT readings went from 394 to 329 in two days. ALKP went from 50 to 34. Both are significant reduction, so the vet said she can come home. I will continue with the Clavam...

Ginger And Tabs’ New Nebulization Carrier 20th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
Tabs was only on anti-histamines and a broncodilator, but her cough got a little worse yesterday (the duration was coughing had increased), so I consulted the vet and now she is on Baytril (antibiotics) and Bromhexine (mucolytic).
Ginger was alright for a few days but started snorting again yesterday. He is already on anti-histamines, but added to that now is the broncodilator, the mucolytic and a nose drop (twice a day).
I was able to apply the nose drop single-handedly without any problems.
Th...

Direct Donations And Merchandise For Fundraising (MCO-Relief) 19th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
It is a fact by now that everyone is hard hit by the Covid19 pandemic. Many businesses have already closed down, people have lost their jobs, hence it would follow that donations to charitable organisations would be much lesser as well.
In view of this, we would like to help as much as possible so we are definitely continuing with our neutering and vaccination aid (but strongly urge applicants to be totally honest with us so that we do not have the unpleasant task of banning anyone).
The four sh...

What Startled Cleo?? 19th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
I was very busy preparing for a Wesak talk as well as materials for online teaching when husband came into the room and announced, for the first time in decades, that he was going to cook for dinner.
What?? I was shocked.
And so was Cleo.
Cleo: What???
Cleo: Ah, but I won’t get any. Am not interested in human food, anyway.
This was dinner. Yum, yum…

Visiting Minnie And Smurfy 19th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
I went to the clinic to get additional medicine for Ginger and Tabs for their cough so I was able to visit Minnie and Smurfy too.
The vet assistant said they had been very good, but they don’t eat unless they are alone. So everyone has to walk away so that they can eat.
Minnie and Smurfy are boarded in the cat room of the clinic and they are alone because there are no other cats there.
When I went in, I think Smurfy was more happy to see me. Minnie must be a little angry or disappointed wi...

Indy, The Self-Healing TCM Sinseh 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
Indy is a self-healer. Time and time again, he gets minor health disorders, he will find ways to heal himself.
Yesterday, he was having some stomach upset.
So I saw him eating serai (lemongrass) in Bunny’s Place today. But, the problem is, all the lemongrass in Bunny’s Place have dried up because Cow, Bunny and Indy spray on them.
So, we let Indy to Ginger’s patio to eat Tabs’ lemongrass.
First, he went for Heidi’s grass. It’s medicinal.
Next, Tab’s le...

Minnie’s FCoV Test Results 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
“Coronavirus” is a curse word these days, isn’t it?
So, to first clarify, the FCoV stands for Feline Coronavirus and it is an alpha strain. It also does NOT infect humans.
An article about the test: https://www.vet.cornell.edu/animal-heal th-diagnostic-center/veterinary-support/disease-in formation/feline-coronavirus
I requested the vet to do the FCoV test on Minnie when her ALT (liver) readings were high.
So, it’s done and the result is a “faint positive&rdquo...

To The Vet’s (Minnie Has Hepatitis) 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
At 8.45am, I brought out two carriers, lined them with towels and sprayed Feliway inside.
Then I approached Minnie and Smurfy. It was not too difficult catching Minnie although she evaded me a bit. When I put her into the carrier, she went in calmly without resistance.
Next was Smurfy.
Now, he was VERY difficult. I tried for 10 minutes but failed and was resigned to the fact that maybe I should just take Minnie first as I did not want Minnie to wait too long in the carrier.
Then, husband came i...

Ops Subuh 3 – As It Stands Now 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
With all windows locked, Heidi and Ginger at the patio, Tabs in Bunny’s Place, I opened the front door and invited Minnie and Smurfy into the house for breakfast.
But of course they politely declined the offer and stayed right outside the door.
Yes, even little Smurfy declined.
So I just waited….
His love for food soon sent little Smurfy wondering if it might be worth coming in after all. Come right in, little one. There’s nice yummy food here.
And he did. I let him eat. Minn...

Can Anyone Help This Dog, Please? 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
A lady wrote to me yesterday asking for help for her dog who is “aggressive” and has bitten her. I replied saying that I am not a dog expert and am not qualified to help and that it’s best she takes the dog to an expert who can help with behavioral problems.
Her reply to that was to ask if she could just put the dog down.
What???
Now, my patience has been running thin for the past few days, so I mustered as much diplomacy as I could and replied that having behavioral problems i...

Ops Subuh 2 And The “Daffodil Move” (Minnie & Smurfy) 18th Apr 2020, by AnimalCare
After the failure of Ops Subuh, which was on Wednesday morning, that night, I spent more than an hour covering up the gap in which I saw Smurfy struggle out of and also which I thought was how Minnie must have escaped.
It’s MCO-period, so I could only make use of whatever we have in the storeroom.
Using remaining netting and what’s left of an old roll of twists, I secured the gap.
But on hindsight, if Smurfy, being so much smaller had problems struggling and squeezing out of this ga...
