The Final Farewell To Our Beloved Cow Mau 24th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Riley joined us in Cow Mau’s wake this morning.
Indy too. Cow Mau and Indy were the team of black-and-white warriors in our clan.
Pet Memorial arrived at 10am.
Goodbye, our dearest Cow Mau. You will live on in our memories.
LIFE NEVER DIES – by the Wayfarers (I changed one word, though)
Life never dies, although we live.In midst of change and death,Only the forms shall pass away. And not the spirit’s breath.
The memories can never die.Although it seems to fade.It doth b...

Goodbye, Our Legend, Cow Mau (2006 – 2024) 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Cow Mau passed away peacefully at 8.55pm tonight, surrounded by his family.
We had actually just returned from the vet’s after his 3rd laser therapy and I was supposed to give him more water orally. But he already started rejecting fluids. I even bought new Japanese milk for him and had a new medication to help with his hypomotility issue.
We took him to the vet’s because I was worried that he had not defecated ever since I started feeding him chicken. The vet palpated and said he wa...

The Challenge Of Feeding The Blondies 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Are female cats always so hard to feed?
From my experience, the answer is YES.
Cleo had always been so difficult to feed and for many years, I did wonder how she continued to survive and thrive (!) by eating so, so little. Riley is also very difficult to feed, especially proper food, though she loves kibble. Tabs is equally getting to be so difficult to feed nowadays as well. Perhaps only Minnie is considered easy to feed maybe because she eats with the Monsters and the Monsters are all food guz...

Cow Mau In The Garden This Morning 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
I decided to take Cow Mau to our front lawn this morning for some early morning air.
I had wanted to do it yesterday, actually, but as I was carrying him out towards the door, he wet himself (and me) so I had to clean everything up and take a bath. It’s been on my mind too, that with such weak hind legs now, Cow Mau may have difficulty defecating because he definitely cannot squat long enough to do it. He might not even have the energy to push. I need to ask the vet for advice on this and ...

Is There A Glimmer Of Hope For Peace In The Porch? 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Creamy came this morning.
I offered him food and he ate with Misty. Gerald also came back but didn’t dare approach the feeding station.
But finally Gerald did eat…at a distance. This is already an improvement because previously, Gerald wouldn’t even dare to come back, much less to eat.
Husband says Gerald dared to come back because he was in the porch and Gerald knows he has “backing”.
This is regarded as hugely successful already!
Creamy went away after eating ...

Cow Mau’s Breakfast This Morning And Reminiscence Of The Circle Of Life 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
I hope I had enough sleep last night. I put Cow Mau back in Bunny’s Place last night because he slept facing the entrance, so I thought that might be a sign that he wanted to sleep in Bunny’s Room.
This morning, I found Cow Mau lying at his favourite place in the garden.
I let him sleep a little longer before giving him the Azodyl (for best effects, to be given an hour before food).
Then I prepared this breakfast.
As of last night, Cow Mau could eat a bit more of the minced chicken...

Getting So Forgetful These Days… 23rd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Lately, with so much to do, I’ve been getting very forgetful.
There was a day where I actually could not recall if I had done Indy’s subcut. I tried recalling the events of the day, what I did, I looked at the amount of fluids left in the bottle, I even asked husband if he had seen me doing Indy’s subcut, but nothing helped me to remember.
That’s when something needed to be done.
So, now….
I write down on the fluid bottle once the subcut has been done.
These are ...

Coconut Water For Cow Mau 22nd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
A kind friend suggested that I could try giving Cow Mau coconut water to hydrate him. It’s supposed to be safe for cats and dogs and it contains healthy vitamins and minerals too.
I’ve already checked with the vet and she says it is okay too, as long as it’s pure coconut water.
So I gave Cow Mau about 10ml of it just now. He didn’t object.
When trying out something new, always go slow and in small amounts…
He’s pawing his mouth much less now too. I think the ...

The Magic Of Oral Aid For Cow Mau’s Ulcers 22nd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Yesterday, when the vet lifted Cow Mau’s lips to reveal the bloody ulcers at the root of his upper canines, it was really scary. She immediately applied Oral Aid to these areas and we were given a bottle to take up and apply it 2-3 times daily.
I continued applying it twice yesterday (once already done at the clinic).
And when I applied it again this morning, I was amazed at how much the ulcers have become less reddened. In fact, the gums are back to a “gum colour” (a dull pink...

1.10am – Checking In On Cow Mau, And Thoughts About Doing The Best We Can 22nd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
I got up at 1.10am this morning. I know, my sleeping hours have been totally crazy in the past week.
I tiptoed to Bunny’s Place and saw Cow Mau sleeping comfortably at the pantry. That’s good. I was hoping he wouldn’t know I was up, but he did and soon came to call for me at the door.
Last night, I don’t know what time I konked off to sleep. It must have been quite early because I had been up since 3.30am yesterday and did not have any time to catch a nap all day.
Cow Ma...

Creamy Returns….(uh-Oh!) 22nd Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
There was an incident in the porch yesterday evening…
Uh-oh….Creamy has returned!
But at the same time, so had Gerald and Misty too and guess where they were?
Gerald and Misty were initially on the door mat, but quickly migrated to the other side of my car so that (and hopefully?) Creamy cannot see them.
I offered Creamy some food and he ate, and I also offered Gerald and Misty. This time, only Gerald ate. Misty was too serba salah and kept trotting to and from Creamy and Ge...

Cow Mau – Still The One In Charge! 21st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
So far, Cow Mau has had four meals today.
I forgot to update that his weight today (at the clinic) was 3.6kg! Not bad, not bad at all considering what he has been through, literally coming back now from the brink of death.
When he was so critically ill during those few days (was it two-and-a-half days?), he was as light as a feather and I didn’t even dare to weigh him. At that time, nothing mattered except to make him as comfortable as possible and to enable him to breathe more easily. Tha...

Cow Mau’s 2nd Laser Treatment 21st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
We’ll start with the second morning breakfast. I wanted to make sure Cow Mau won’t be hungry before we went for his 2nd laser treatment today.
About an hour after this second breakfast, we made our way to the clinic.
There was another emergency, so we had to wait a bit.
Then, it was our turn.
Blood was taken to check the necessary parameters. Then the laser treatment was done. I’m making all the laser therapy photos black-and-white so that you can at least see something. If i...

3.30am – Cow Mau Eats Breakfast 21st Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Cow Mau woke me up at 3.30am this morning.
I wasn’t sure if he just wanted companionship or he was hungry. So I sat with him for awhile then decided to offer some food.
Managed to feed him some Hill’s KD but the stickiness of the food still irritates his mouth and I didn’t want to create more stress from him. Otherwise, the mere smell or thought of food might just turn him off. I already made the cold Hill’s food into small lumps so that he could swallow it more easily, ...

Cow Mau’s SRR Improves! 20th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
Cow Mau’s SRR (sleeping respiratory rate) was about 32-36 this morning. It should not be above 30.
Now, it’s 24. That’s a good improvement. He is definitely breathing very much better now. Not at all using his mouth.
I fed him dinner just now. Altogether, Cow Mau has had four meals today.
He sleeps after every meal. But he wants to be close to us all the time now. If I walk off to do anything, he will get up and look for me.
Rest well, Cow Mau. We are here with you.
The post C...

Administrations Of Medicines Via The Oral Route And Injections 20th Mar 2024, by AnimalCare
I learnt something new today and thought it might be useful for us to know.
Products administered through oral route will not be found 100% in the bloodstream because 1) absorption by the gut is not 100% due to various factors; and 2) once absorbed they will first pass through the liver where part of the products is destroyed before they get into the bloodstream. This is known as “first-pass metabolism”.
First-pass metabolism refers to any loss of the administered material...
